  1. Thanks for the link rob-o-x, that was exactly what I was looking for. I will give them a call this morning R550 is way cheaper than trying to fix nerve and vascular damage down the line.
  2. In my case it is the bad kind on numb. I have been checking out some videos on the net today about it and it does seem quite a serious problem. So I think I will book a proper fitting and maybe get a new saddle. Anyone been through the cycle lab fitting system?
  3. Hi everyone, I have been having trouble with my saddle since I bought my bike. I have now tried just about everything I could think of to solve the problem with little success. I have changed the angle both below and above horizontal, moved it forward and backwards and I have adjusted the seat post height. But without fail after about 10Km I go completely numb down there When I got the bike about three months ago I was told that it would be a bit uncomfortable for a while until the sit bones got used to it but it is still not very comfortable. The saddle I have is a Felt branded unit that came with the bike so its nothing special. The question is should I go for a proper bike fitting or should I just invest in a new one, and if so what should I look for? The bike is a HT but even when I ride it on the road during the week I get the same issue.
  4. So I ended up doing oom Piet, the river, and what I think is kasaan ( I thought it was the Greek church route at the time) I also spent about 10km's getting hopelessly lost, and ran out of skills once or twice :-) All in all a great day out, some of that single track is truly amazing, I will definitely be going back soon but maybe this time I will go with someone who knows the place
  5. I checked out the YouTube videos of Groenkloof and I must say it does look pretty good but I think I have been convinced to do Van Gaalen this Sunday, I will give groenies a go next weekend for sure.
  6. I have spent the last three weeks riding Northern Farm because it is so close to home. But I am looking for something different this Sunday morning. I want to do about 40km seeing as I am doing the next trailseeker at Van Gaalen. I have identified a few options so far: 1. Van Gaalen 2. Thaba Trails 3. Modderfontein 4. Groenkloof I haven't been to any of the above places yet so some insight into the conditions of each would be appreciated.
  7. Thanks guys I thought I was being a bit impatient I will give it a nice long ride today and see if that sorts it out.
  8. I upgraded my brakes today to a nice new set of SLX units thanks to TheV's great prices :-) The back brake started gripping like a demon after a couple of pulls but the front one feels a bit spongy and I have to apply quite a bit of pressure to slow me down. Do pads normally have to wear in over time or should they be good to go from day one?
  9. I never leave home without my benchmade
  10. My race would have been a lot more comfortable if i realized that my fork was still locked out from riding on the road last week. This was also my first race so i will chalk it up to school fees
  11. Good to know that I am not the only one. What I can say though is my shoulders are killing me today
  12. I saw some of the ss bikes there, they do look like awesome machines but I think that is a bit above my fitness grade at the moment. If I had to choose just one gear for that race it would have been the granny ring.
  13. Me sadly, for riding the whole Spring Classic and only realizing in the wash bay that my fork was locked out the whole time And then disabling it for the ride up to the car No wonder my arms were feeling like lead for the last few km's. Fun race though.
  14. I had a similar issue with my Race King UST on a mavic 317 luckily I also had a couple of the green crowbars handy. The only way that tire is coming off the rim is if I cut it off
  15. Will we get some kind of email notification before the race or do we just turn up on the day. (Its my first race hence the question)
  16. I did a tubeless conversion, I can't believe the difference two tyres can make. Got the Conti Race King for the rear and the Mountain King for the front, both UST and I did the inflating with my small frame pump. Needless to say I got a good arm workout Next buy a floor pump.
  17. Someone should send HM a copy of the match analysis done on supersport after the game. The guys were spot on, our defence was awful and this up and under nonsense is a joke. They have a lot of work to do this week....
  18. So I went and did route 2 at northern farm this morning. The route marking at one point was a bit vague so I ended up doing a few extra km's. I really did enjoy it though. There were many other riders at 7:00 so I think it is pretty safe for single riders. Next week I will try Modderfontein to see how that is. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
  19. My problem is that I have done the cycle park a couple of times and I now want to try something new.
  20. Thanks guys I live in Fourways so I think I will try northern farm tomorrow . Oh and I have tried to convince my mates but it's nearly impossible to get them off the golf course at the best of times
  21. Hi Hubbers, what trails in and around Joburg can be done as a single rider. I recently started riding again but none of my mates ride. And I am now tired of doing base training on the road. So where can I go that would be safe enough with at least some technical sections to build up some skills. I have done the MTN park a couple of times but now it is time for something new.
  22. I entered yesterday at the Fourways Trappers, they told me the in store entries close on Monday but you can still enter online
  23. Thanks guys, I went out and bought a heart rate monitor during the weekend so that I can stay in the right zone and not overdo it. I will also start entering some shorter races just to get some race experience.
  24. Thanks for the response, I am doing 5x30min and 1x1hr per week at the moment, pretty much all on the road. I guess I need to start getting on a trail somewhere and do some longer rides if I want to be fit in time.
  25. Hi Hubbers, I recently decided it’s a good time to start riding again after about 10 years off. I am quite keen to do the 40Km Nissan Trailseeker MTB race in October and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on how to train for it. I got my bike three weeks ago and now I am doing about 9Km a day with one day off and one day of 15Km a weekend. My question is the following: Is cranking up the mileage on a weekly basis enough to get me fit, or are there other things that I can do to get me into shape?
