  1. Thanks - ya mean its that simple? - Would never have worked it out myself though.
  2. ...........I have had one for about a year, never got it to work properly probably cos I cant be bothered to read the long manual, so I just use it a a daily tool, (ie) cadence, gradient, heart rate etc, but what irks me most is I am still unable to work out how to zero the unit!! So if I ride today and download the profile, it zeros, but if I dont download the info stays on screen and to me just drives me batty, is it normal, or is there a way of zeroing the unit after each ride / run. .................its easier asking than reading the manual.! - and I just know there are 300 folks out there just itching to explain it all.
  3. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Cosmos and Alpina brands were manufactured by a company in the Vaal Triangle owned by the Immelman brothers. They later converted the factory into manufacturing mud flaps for the auto industry and became millionairs. ............but as I said, I "vaguely" remember I may be 100% of the bat.!
  4. here... http://www.robladin.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/blancavlasic.jpg Yeah, rather attractive I think. I always think sportswoman just look so much healthier and natural, some of the top models just look downright anemic and I always wonder if its natural or just a good make up artist. .......so I approve, a natural good looking athletic woman and a possible world title holder, who couldnt be impressed.!
  5. I will probably continue to keep an eye on it, but I wont be sitting in front of the screen throughout the race anymore. Its like watching a hollywood movie - back in your mind you know nobody can jump out of a car at that speed and survive, but you watch it anyway, - same here, I will always be thinking, No,No, thats not possible, but it has its entertainment value.
  6. Thats an interesting point - I should imagine that you can stay irrespective of rider numbers if your riders had a "natural" reason for dropping out, like a crash, injury, illness etc. However, I seem to remember that Astana could not compete due to insufficient rider numbers in 2006 after the "Puerto" doping affair implicated a number of its riders. .......but maybe there is a minimum number, I am not sure. porky2008-07-16 10:53:07
  7. Cool, - great for you.! I hope nobody else here (like me) rides a Mountain Bike on the road occassionally.!! Anyway, so I guess now we can confirm anything that works "for you" is an infallible product.!! Makes my heart glad.! Any other products you tested lately we can all now run out and buy? porky2008-07-16 10:05:00
  8. Yes, they do come loose, I also have one and I must have lost three bombs already, they may be great for the German silky smooth tarmac, but up here in good old Gautengs potholed, uneven shaky road surfaces they work loose and pop out if you dont keep a check on em.
  9. This discussion will go nowhere, you Rodz are arguing from a point of Non-Belief and we are arguing from a point of Belief. You seem to think that we dont believe the scriptures, No,No, for the Christian the scriptures are fact, Jesus walked the earth, raised the dead, healed the sick, and left us a "bible" by which to live - there are no "doubts" it is fact because we believe.! Obviously, if you do not believe in Jesus theres no reason for you to believe in the scriptures and we are just not even on the same page. I could argue in your terms by saying if I was teleported back to the 10th century and I told people that in the 21st century we have cars running on gasoline, look heres a workshop manual!! - do you think they would all believe me?? No, some who had "faith" would, but those who had never seen a car and couldnt grasp its concept would argue from their "known" view point. I am finished with this now, its been fun (well, occassionally) but I shall just leave you with two scriptures - which explains the "faith" we as christians are asked to have. a)Hebrews 11 verse 1 - Faith is been sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. b)After Jesus rose from the dead and Thomas (doubting Thomas) had seen his wounds he said to Thomas - You believe because you have seen, blessed are those who have not seen, yet still believe. Well, thats me chap, I respect your view and I have made my point, if you reply I will probably read it, but my stance is clear, I dont think we can go much further here without going in circles.??
  10. You misinterpret the whole debate Rogz or maybe you just wanted to be controversial.? Christians believe that your life IS mapped out for you, because God has planned good things for all his followers, YOU dont know what that map is, but God dos. However, here on earth, we have free will to follow Gods map or follow Satans map. If you believe in God as your father and creator, you will follow his map and his plan will come to pass. If you dont, well, Satans plan may come to pass. So, we believe as christians when we go around making plans and spinning wheels, its not us, its God working THROUGH us and putting his plan into action by opening doors we need to walk through and closing those we dont. As for the snide remark about killing yourself, well if you were a christian you would know that suicide is against the will of God, and anything against the will of God is from Satan. God put you here and you remain here, because he wants you to be here, to do something for him, or he wants to do something through you, when its time he will call you home (his plan) but, only God, has that right to call you home. porky2008-07-11 10:11:17
  11. - Yeah, still married and still running.!
  12. I heard this year it was by invitation only in that you had to have run(climbed) it at least once before or have a previous runner invite you. I think it was to at least try and limit the carnage from the middle runners and backwards because some of the paths up the climbs are actually just wide enough to do in single file, I remember stopping at some stage and looking up and down was just this line of runners. ..........Phooeew, yeah, what a run, when I finished I dropped my shoes right there at the finish and told my wife if she "dares" to bring them home, divorce is in the air, cos thats me, I aint running no more.!!! ....................but of course we all feel like that at some stage, its still a great sport.
  13. Yes, Epoh, a nice little story and very relevant. I too have seen Gods work in my life many times, I remember in January I had a meeting with a man about a business arrangement at a restaurant, I got there first and was drinking a coffee when he walked in and sat down. I immediately sensed this man had evil spirits around him, I could almost see them clinging to him and dragging him down, he was a sad depressed man who had all the trappings of wealth but had no joy. He told me he regularly gos to fortune tellers to see what his future holds, he gos to visitations with the dead and has talked to his late father. It was awefull, I swear to this day I could see the black cloud around him. That night I was telling my wife and she said God was warning you not to do business with this man, I agreed and although it might have been a good business arrangement, I just could not. It was not going to be blessed by God and I would not do it. I still see him occassionally, now he is gravely ill, but I still pray for him.
  14. I fail to see how "Free choice" applies to the poor unfortunate passengers on the 9/11 air disasters.? Of course there is "evil in the world", because there is "Satan in the world" - but that has nothing to do with Free choice. You think God dos not intervene? - you are wrong my friend, this is the same God who walked on water, who healed the sick, who raised the dead, who calmed the oceans and who rose from the dead himself,................... why I ask, should he not continue performing miracles today?? There is a war raging around you every day CB, and its not the one in the Middle East, its a war for firstly your mind and ultimately your soul, nowhere dos it say in the bible, your life will be care free, a walk in the park,it says trouble will come your way, but it also says God will be with you in those times of trouble and that he hears every prayer. Thats enough for me.
  15. I am confused, Is it your bike or are you looking for one similar to that.?? If its yours, I would just leave it be, it looks great just as it is. If its not yours, you can buy these replicas from a few companies in the States, google it (or ask TNT to do it for you!!) - I even saw one on e-bay once or twice.
  16. Maybe its just me, but I would have excused myself from the event and stayed at home with my wife and baby. I dont think anybody would have complained about that decision. When my little girl was born it was one of the most awe inspiring, god fearing, humbleing and gratious experiences of my life, I wouldnt have missed it for anything materialistic. The tour will still be here in 20 years time, but moments like that only come once in a liftime.
  17. I carry a pepper spray as do most of us who run regularly in the dark, but fortunately I have never had the occassion to use it. Also done 4 Comrades (11 widget!! - thats really tough) and 5 Two Oceans as well as a few Om die Dam etc, but the absolute worst (I mean toughest) race I ever did was "DIE VOET" out in some Hellish Mountain in Harrismith. I remember getting halfway up the climb and there were runners (at that stage we were not runners but mountaineers)pulling on garden gloves to literally pull themselves up the incline.!! I still enjoy running and never find it boring as someone else said, although I am a definate 10 hour Comrades runner, my best been 9.46. "Silver" wow - we have some super athletes here for sure.
  18. Haa, Haa, JL, I like your sense of humour, maybe not your "position" on runners but hey I can live with that.! .............as for the power walkers.....................the less said the better.!porky2008-07-02 09:05:30
  19. Huh............living in BedfordView and been an active runner, I hope I never have to meet you on the road. I thought it was only little old ladies with "blue hair rinse" that complained but I see I am mistaken, its also adult men who "behave" like little old ladies.! As I regularly run from the VA on weekends, and as we do try and please all road users, I shall be sure to "herd" the guys into the sidewalk flowerbeds, water features, ornate fencing, and spot lights.............we shall pretend we are practising for the steeplechase.!
  20. No bike has ever won a race. Ever. Thats the power of marketing, because LA rode a Trek and won the TDF, it must be the best?? Because Kevin or Malcolm won more races here than anybody else on a Raleigh it must be the best?? Rubbish. LA would have won on any Brand of frame as would Kevin or Malcolm. Raleigh has done well here generally because it has filled a big gap in the marketplace with an affordable, well specced bike that is percieved as good value for money,...........and thats fine, Kudos to Pro bike for seeing the gap and taking it. Raleigh, although it was probably not their intention, but they may even have forced prices of international products down in an effort to compete, so I think its been very beneficial to the growth of the cycling market here. porky2008-06-27 14:08:49
