  1. Event Name: 100 Miles Of Nowhere When: 24 June 2016 Where: Cadence Cycle Performance Centres, International Category: Industry / General The 100 Miles of Nowhere (100MoN) is a race without a place. It’s an event in which hundreds of people participate . . . all by ourselves. (Or with a friend. Or with 20 friends.) It’s a very strange thing where you pay an entry fee (dependent on solo, 2-person or 4-person team) for some awesome swag and the privilege of riding an indoor cycle trainer for 100 miles. 100 MoN – 100 Miles of Nowhere: the KZN Herd unique event; this is an indoor cycling challenge. Participants have to complete 100 Miles = 160km on a stationary bike. An arduous task that takes from 4hrs to 6hrs to complete. The event is hosted by Cadence Cycle studios, who have agreed to allow us to host it nationally and include their studios in KwaZulu-Natal, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town in 2016. There are 3 different entry categories 1. Solo – the whole 160km/100miles by a single person 2. 2-person team – two people complete the 160km/100miles on one stationary bike (they take turns on the bike to get the mileage completed) 3. 4 person team – 4 people complete the 160km/100miles on one stationary bike (they take turns on the bike to get the mileage completed) Venue: The events will take place at Cadence Cycle Performance Centres in Durban North, Westville, Hillcrest, Ballito and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, Bryanston and Wapadrand in Gauteng as well as Tyger Valley in Cape Town. Date: Friday, 24 June 2016 Time: 14:00 – 19:00 Go to Event Page
  2. Hi Hubbers I have lurked on this site for a while, and from time to time posted. thought i'd be brave and put out a request - if any hubbers would be able to assist, I have been persuaded by the crazy hubber bobbie to ride Shova, and to raise moo-la for CHOC Cows while i'm about it. If any of you are looking to support a charity, please send some few moo-las my way. help my moo-minion look a little less glum by throwing the odd coin his way for his cow-cup thanks http://www.givengain.../projects/6050/
  3. Awesome to see so many 1st time riders... way to go guys and gals! If any of you are interested in really marking your Shova as the best, head on over to the CHOC cows website and join the heard! Raise funds for kids with cancer and the support structures that help them and their families. http://www.thecows.co.za In the banner/heading area on the left is a 'Join the herd' section - fill out your details, click on 'Participate in an event' and they will get back to you with all the details!!! Also if your seeding isn't to great, the CHOC cows start in the charity bond group at +-7:20am!!! Hope to see some of you out there
  4. 1st is the best place to start working towards those milestones
  5. How many Hubbers are doing Amashova this year? Are any doing a milestones ride - 10th, 15th, 20th, 21st or 25th?
  6. Folks it is hotting up the other nominee has made up more than 200 votes this morning!!! But i'm sure the hubbers can rectify that in a few minutes Vote for Lauren Varty at http://gsport.co.za/...rds-voting-hall
  7. Thanks Mods for merging! Yup the voting is rather flawed, but if it's flawed the same for all then we can also multiple vote for Lauren and ensure we put her on another podium!!! So get voting, don't be shy!!! Vote for Lauren Varty at http://gsport.co.za/...rds-voting-hall
  8. Folks the voting has been getting super tight and the more we can get for Lauren the better, please spread the word far and wide. This is an amazing opportunity for cycling to recognise something positive (and not just a positive dope result) but a positive community ambassador!!! GO VOTE FOR LAUREN AND SPREAD THE WORD http://gsport.co.za/2012-spargsport-awards-voting-hall
  9. To all thehubsa fans, A young KZN, Hillcrest, cyclist 'Lauren Varty' has been nominated as a young upcoming female athelete of the year for the SPAR gSports awards. I would like to ask you all to vote for Lauren: Here is the link http://gsport.co.za/2012-spargsport-awards-voting-hall If you want to know why you should vote for Lauren here are a few reasons... 1. Lauren is a committed and dedicated cyclist. 2. Lauren has to fit in her cycling training in 'her own time' as it is not exactly an organised 'school sport'. 3. Lauren trains hard and when she races she is consistently in the top three placings for her age category. 4. Lauren has an amazing positive attitude to riding and racing and never gives up. BUT most importantly 5. Lauren rides to raise awareness and funds for the CHOC foundation (http://www.choc.org.za/ - for those who don't know CHOC they work with families and kids fighting Cancer) She has done, Amashove, Cape Argus and 94.7 as a 'CHOC cow'. She has also in her own time completed a 100 miles of nowhere, which is a crazy event where you ride your bike nowhere and cover 100 miles (160km) it is usually done on a short circuit (e.g. a 2km circuit) or even on an indoor trainer, Lauren is phenomenal and when ever she felt like bailing she just said... 'a kid with cancer doesn't get to stop they have to keep going and fighting so I can keep going' So alll you need to do to help Lauren continue to raise awareness and funds is click and vote. Every vote brings her closer to winning and helps her put the CHOC foundation onto another platform for awareness and get cycling on the podium at the awards. Vote for Lauren Varty at http://gsport.co.za/2012-spargsport-awards-voting-hall and feel free to vote for any of the other ladies in any of the other categories. Thanks for listening / reading... NOW GO VOTE! =D THANKS

  13. Cyclist critical after M4 crash 07 April 2010 - 10:36 By Benita Enoch A cyclist is fighting for his life after he was struck by a car on the M4-south bound carriageway this morning. http://www.ecr.cokagiso/action/media/downloadFilemedia_fileid=45789&ampa=247&amps=200x200 It's believed the man had been travelling north when he got into the path of an oncoming car. Paramedics say the high impact of the collision left the man critically injured. "He sustained poly-traumatic injuries and he was treated at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Durban's Addington Hospital," said Netcare911?s Jeff Wicks. From ECR - Website

  17. What a fantastic idea... all of the epic riders get to live out their deepest fantasy... to be a yellow jersey wearer!!!! no seriously love the idea... but i'm not doing epic. so i'll just support football friday
  18. crikey! i just got a reply to an info seeking email from ROAG (they ran the entries and regis - very well) as to whom i should contact in this regard. They just confirmed that the cyclist responsible = WAS THE ORGANISER!!! So she shall be receiving from me shortly a very strongly and clearly worded letter in this regard!
  19. Johan - i am planning on writing a strongly worded note to the organisers, just need to calm myself and focus on the issue. I would like to get organisers to buy into the idea of getting recyclers to come and collect our stashed trash at the end of the race. So I need to be very careful about how i put it. Also have to admit, i was furious and let this lady have it (thankfully without swearing, so i still have some dignity). So i will need to put my words very clearly and thoughtfully!
  20. Johan i thought of it and then i thought, what is more important making this lady feel worse or look worse, or focusing on getting us all to challenge people who litter when riding, and reminding us all to NOT litter when riding! I am opting for the "high road" i will ask you all to remember to STASH YOUR TRASH and to challenge those who don't! (i did take solace in the fact that one of the other riders then came past me with a big thumbs up, after my little shouting match!) Sorry adogshow... just a little, well, you can tell, agitated by this all. Little12010-03-02 02:49:35
  21. TRASH! MAKES ME MAD!!! But perhaps some background first? I had the pleasure of riding one of the best local races on Sunday in KZN. What a fantastic day, perfect weather, good turn out and as always a great ride. I decided to take it easy having not been on my bike properly for 6 weeks or so. I was really enjoying just being on my bike and riding. But then it happened, the MOST DISGUSTING thing... a cyclist in front of me threw their empty gel packet into the grass on the side of the road "Oi!!" i shouted "put it in your pocket!" "oh please" was the response, "mumble mumble" "Pardon" i said as i rode up alongside... to realise this was on of the organisers of the race!!!!! "You have pockets to put your trash in" "Please, i'm creating employment" "No you are not you are merely creating litter!" At this point i am fuming and doing everything in me to not swear at this stupid.... "Who do you think you're talking to little miss?" "A DISGUSTING PERSON who uses the world as their personal trash can!" By now I am so angry with her disregard for : a) the environment which is limited b) the community who live in the area and the fact that she feels she can just throw trash wherever c) the fact that as an organiser she SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!! So I decided that today I would get FURIOUS with the issue not the person (clearly she is not worth it!) HUBBERS please, your kit gets gross, from sweat and dirt form the road / track etc a bit of gel is not going to make any difference!!! I BEG OF YOU ALL TO PLEASE: a) respect the community who are allowing us access to their roads / tracks etc b) respect our environment which is so limited. c) support races that support recycling, or encourage race organisers to create employment by partnering with recyclers, who can collect from us at the end of the race BUT most importantly STASH YOUR TRASH!!!
  22. Interesting points... this is also going around on our local club email. One of our members raised it with the organisers who as noted said they were asked to only recognise the top 10 ladies... I would like to know who asked them? and what was the justification. Surely an under 16 girl should get recognition and not ignored, that's no way to encourage her to stay in the sport. Added to that an older women who doesn't have a sponsor, works full time, trains when she can and runs a household, should get some recognition for her ability. It also inspires her kids and helps "reward" her for what she may have given up to reach that level. The women raced the 106km route, the men raced the same 106km where did the difference come in? 23. to all you first time shova riders WELL DONE! I've done a few and love it every time! hope we get some more. It surprises me always that such an awesome race has fwere entries than Argus and 94.7? go figure?
