  1. Last year's medal came without its lanyard. Really, for the $$ wtf? Maybe this year we will have to share coke cups so that the margin goes up.
  2. Depends on, 1. What you ate 2 days before the event, 2. The day before the event, 3. The morning before the event, 4. as well as what you ate on the start line.
  3. Went dizzy for a week when switching over to LCHF (as predicted by the diet). Went away after a week. Dizzyness was probably my body getting used to the lower sugar levels. Like the other poster said - check the sugar levels. Also check out LCHF diet
  4. Google found this: http://footlogics.co.za/casual-orthotics-insoles-inserts.html R290
  5. I have no problem going back to that, if the design changes year after year for say events like Die Burger
  6. Trophy's for 1 2 and 3, and cheap medals for the rest will be fine. My gripe is the actual design of the medals compared to running events. Some group of people on the runners's side do a lot of effort on the medals while the event fees are low. Cycling is the opposite on both accounts.
  7. Yeah I remember those days, one had a tracksuit specifically for that which later looked like a christmas tree.
  8. She also did a 10km the other day. Got another huge medal, a bottle of wine and the entry fee was R35. Medals aside why do we pay so much? But this thread is about medals. I just wonder why there are such a big difference. The same country, the same province, the factory that makes the medals are probably the same, but the outcome is totally different. Every single time, except for the Argus. Argus medals really stand out from this other crap.
  9. Yeah so my girl friend does all these 10 -21km runs - nearly every weekend. Her entry fee ranges from R35 - R60. I Cycle. You know the entry fees. BUT, Every single mother F'ing time she comes home with a medal - it looks like it was designed and manufactured by a company that spent a billion rand on the design. ALWAYS a big metal medal, weighing half a ton. My medals on the the hand are copied from the previous year - dull in design. For instance the Die Burger medal design are just another copy of last year. 2012's 99ner race which costed a fortune in fees, was this small little piece of crap that did not even come with a lanyard. 2011 - 2012 Stellenbosch medallion comes with a licence car sticker. Entry fee is A LOT. The bouckaert race comes with a plastic see through medal. I will post photos on what I'm talking about if no one believes me. What the hell is the deal with this?
  10. That means the Durbanville 94km flat race is slightly more difficult than the Argus? What polony. Why don't they use the watt meter of the winner or group of front runners to work out the beta?
  11. Sun 10/11/2013 Engen Cycle Challenge 2013 Paarl (111km) Beta: 0.87 Sat 26/10/2013 Leapfrog Property Group/Durbanville High School Funride (94.3km) Beta: 1.05 Hi all, Can someone explain the rational between the above beta differences please? The engen had a mountain pass while durbanville was flat. Engen is also longer.
  12. My CSA and Driver of doom ordeal: Email to CSA Nov 11: The whole of AL passed a young female league group with 2 support vehicles 20 min into the race. After about 2h15 of cycling they caught up with us - about 30 AL cyclists. This was in Lady Loch road. The front support vehicle was a metallic grey Hyundai Getz. This car was riding to the right of the road of the lane, giving us room to pass on the left side of the same lane. The vehicle behind him was a white (I think Toyota) van. Never saw the person driving it but it was a man. Vehicle too high to get a good look. This person was driving even more to the right - basically right hand side of car was in oncoming traffic. There was no way to pass right safely because of this and also since Lady Loch is too dangerous for that because of all the twists and solid white line. As soon as we attempted to pass the Getz on the left he swerved left, pushing us off the road with his car. He did this three times. On the third time of the Getz trying to ram us off the road I passed him, I yelled at him that I'm going to report him for negligence driving as well as for assault to cause bodily harm. He just kept yelling us that we need to keep back and that we are not allowed to pass. We sat behind them for a while. Then I broke away from my group and the league (The Getz now stopped trying to ram me off the road) in the hope my group will follow and ignore the hooligan of a driver. They did not, and so I fell back getting passed by league again, and joining with my team - they now totally fuming. League pulled away and then after another 20 minutes, just turning into the R44, we caught them again. At this stage the group talked among them selves conceded that for some reason we were not allowed to pass and so draughted behind the Getz and the van. In main road Wellington lanes opened up into two lanes and I and a recumbent passed them ignoring another shout this time now from the white van that we need to stay behind. This time the group followed, and we finished in front of them. This league behaviour is totally unacceptable. If there are rules that PPA riders need to know that are NOT available on the website (and trust me I checked), then we must be told at the start of the race. In my opinion cars should not be allowed in cycle races. Also why not have a mega phone attached to these cars? How can a support vehicle contravene traffic laws while we are told to abide? How can PPA campaign for the 1.5m rule if league managers try to kill cyclists? I have no chance as a cyclists to compete against a car trying to drive me off the road. 12 November from CSA: Hi Jacques Thank you for your letter. I am the Chairman of the WP Commissaires and Roland is one of my Officials. We are waiting for Roland to send us a reply to your letter. I would also like to ask you if you can get statements from other cyclists that were with you at the time who witnessed the incident. Yours in Cycling Craig Hawtrey WP Commissaires Chairman Email from Roland 12 Nov: Below is a copy of Roland's report On Sunday being the Comm for the ladies cat we had a pleasant race until we got to Lady Loch road As we approach lady loch road to left with the ladies the road becomes narrow more to the left side I was direct behind the ladies with 2 serv vechiles I stayed there until we caught a bunch of cyclist mostly vets-The ladies passed the group of men moving to the front of the bunch I moved more right leaving space for the cyclist to pass on the leftThe white van also moved right The vets try to pass again on the left than instructed them to stay behind me its to dangerus tn pass Rider al 1039 showed me he will pass I called him back he came back showing me unmanned signs I left it until the finishline There after the white van also warned him to fall back but he ignored us We move on until the R44 heading towards Wellgton Than only I allowed the vets bunch to pass to go to the finish Myself the 2 service vans continue the race of the ladys until the finishline Controling the race at a speed of 35km to 39km over lady Loch road protecting cyclist to there safety How do one still call u a hooligan driver I think Mr Koorts must rethink his behavier towards a OFFICIAL OR RACE COMM The safety of cyclist is my first priority Thank you Rollin Renquis Email to CSA 13 Nov: This is a joke. Next time let Rollin Renquis write a report BEFORE reading mine. He just copied line for line what I said - contradicting himself where he gets confused. Then he lefts out the parts where he did/or did not ram us off the road. Also did everyone read how Mr Rollin Renquis tripped up in his own report "its to dangerus tn pass" - refering to Lady Loch. How then did they get passed us in Lady Loch? Surely danger does not discriminate? This ordeal is becoming worst for me the longer you guys (the mailing list) are handling it. The white van only told me to get to the back when we were on the Wellington main road which I then ignored, not during Lady Loch. Mr Rollin copied my report incorrectly. Yes I gave him the middle finger when I fell back after he ran me off the road. Its called provocation. Email silence since from CSA.....
  13. Some female league team started before the AL group. We overtook them 20 minutes into the race and then they overtook us with their 2 support vehicles just as we entered Wellington area. When they overtook us they slowed down, and so we wanted to get passed but the front supporting vehicle kept on ramming us of the road, swerving towards us to either crash off the road or brake hard hoping that no one behind us ram into us. The guy kept doing that until me and another guy made another attempt to get passed. When I got next to him I yelled at him that I'm going to report him for negligence driving as well as for assault to cause bodily harm. He just kept yelling us that we need to keep back and that we are not allowed to pass. The female group picked up speed and again in Wellington main road we had the same situation. This time we went far around the outside and passed them - now the person in the secondary vehicle yelling at us to fallback. We ignored and dropped them. Now I just finished reading all the rules on the PPA site. nowhere do I see this crap of falling back to be a rule. Also nowhere do I see that if you contravene this rule I can't find, that managers are then allowed to drive you off the road. What I have read however was that if there is such a situation of league vs non-league then the marshal must handle it. There were not any marshals to handle it! I quote: Each PPA League category will have at least one Commissaire and/or Think Bike marshal and/or other official (jointly and severally referred to as the “officials”) following the main / front group. PPA League riders are at all times under the guidance of the officials. It is the responsibility of the officials to, should a PPA League group catch a non- PPA League group (or vice versa), instruct the PPA League group to pass the non- PPA League group (or vice versa) as soon as it is safe to do so. PPA League riders who are still in the main group may not pass until they have been so instructed and only while the instruction stands. Our race time were severely penalized with this ordeal and would never want to go through this again. I'm phoning PPA on monday to find out what the hell is this league manager attitude rule crap.

    Argus 2014

I was in D last year. So you say I should try for A? Based on your theory, then why is Elite and the next group 5 minutes apart while we have to be content with 2? They could make the cut-off time later. They could start the front earlier. Do the race in Feb for more sun light, etc. They could be more considered for the seeders than the fun riders. we worked hard for it.

    Argus 2014

Hi all, I see that the starting times are the same as last year - the dangerous 2 minutes apart starts. I phoned the organizers last year complaining about this. The race was so unsafe and frightening... I just never want to go through that again. Can't we all like petition against this?

  17. Hi there, first post. I have a 2011 GT bike, and the pressfit BB have a bit of play. It is microns, but it is still play. Flandria Cycles says the only thing for me to do is. 1. get a new frame 2. ride the current frame until it breaks 3. try to get a warranty claim I've been searching the net and it seems to me that you can replace the BB shell. Minus points for Flandria not knowing this.. I searched and ProCycles and Trail and Tar does carbon frame repair. Does anyone have advice/experience/referals for me on this matter? Cheers jk
