  1. Indeed dude, you are totally misreading me LOL Not telling U-organisers how to market, price or run their event. Having done the single day event twice and seen footage of their other tracks, this is top notch riding country, so I am salivating to be on them. I was just putting out there my perspective on why I can't take part - yet. No rant. Just a perspective. No agenda or intention either. Just a discussion and "comparison", as we do on forums. #justsaying Enjoy your day peeps
  2. That's the thing - there are no apples vs apples comparisons possible. Ever. Everything is approximate. Each event is unique in it's own right. Hence my "sort of" comparison with Ezel - own accommo, meals etc. So yes, different market they are trying to appeal to. But bottom line remains: we are all mtb'ers wanting to ride all trails (read best trails) at an affordable rate (to each individually). That is a conundrum for event organisers as they cannot/don't want to cater to all. If I could do the U with my own little camping spot (paid for), tent (rooftop tent) and my own meals (or buy local), at a cheaper rate, I would be there in a flash. Oh well, maybe one day....after I've saved up.
  3. There is NO doubt that this is a "must do" event - HOWEVER the price tag is just too heavy for me, despite all the advantages. 2 & 1/4 riding days don't add up enough, if I compare to the Ezelfontein event (where you arrange own accommodation) for just R1000! And it's amazing riding there too. But, to be fair, the riding is better overall at Piket Bo Berg. I've done the one-day cycle challenge twice and the route is just amazing. Love the technical riding. Views amazing. One of the best events out there. PS You might want to update website with all relevant info though.
  4. There like a bear! Again. Sounding like lotsa fun
  5. Not sure you guys picked it up yet....but a serious honey out there is Helen Grobert. Already fell in love with her at the Tankwa Trek
  6. Depending when (time) you intend to get to town you just follow the R27 straight into town, join the N1 and then get off anywhere from Nelson Mandela Boulevard (closer to start) or carry on closer to finish (stadium) to park there. Depending on where you prefer your car to be or if you wan to have a nice cold one after the ride at the festival venue. You could also park area flea market (Paarden Eiland) and cycle through from there for a small warm up. Flea market will be on so car should be safe. You only need to cycle back to it.
  7. Nada.... https://www.windy.com/-33.934/18.869?rain,-34.962,18.864,7,m:cIBagGB
  8. There's a lovely low pressure system just to the southwest of SA spinning some lekka rainy clouds about.....but just as it is about to hit us these eve, it is forecasted to disintegrate. Meaning no rain, except possibly a very light sprinkling here or there https://www.windy.com/-39.028/7.866?rain,-34.962,18.864,7,m:cz6agoh
  9. Will stick my head out and say my predictions show ZERO rain. Pity. A small sprinkling would've made course more grippy and less dusty. But I think organisers will wet it a bit with their allocation of non-potable water...
  10. Ok, but how many people about?? If it was just you there....then obviously the time spent is neglible #just saying

Lol....on a TTT there aint no other riders around....unless he was so fast/slow that he passed/was passed by another. SO no touching of wheels really a reason here mate...
  13. No surprises here....and typical. Thus the reason for a bad name for IT. Generally poor planning by the decision makers integrally linked to lack of investing in proper and correct infrastructure. Good thing most of us saw this coming and had planned to pick up Friday or Saturday. Queues will always be a reality....let's be realistic. Don't expect to go there an be in and out in 10min. And you probably shouldn't, I would suggest. Mozy through the expo and take it all in. Best times to collect are usually later in day, just before closing - if you can arrange that.
  14. Ok, seems we'll get a little motivated group out there from 1D. All welcome to join. We'll need to start from front. I will try get there in time lol Work ethic is a given. Turns needed. Not sure yet which kit I will wear, but I have a baby blue bike frame (borrowed - don't own a road bike!) It says Franschhoek on frame..... My last 2 rides were on a fully mtb with nobblies....3.16
  15. When I checked forecast yesterday it showed medium wind, this morning nearly calm and perfect. Hope it stays that way....but fear weather is currently volatile and will change again...? I think any wind upwards from 15km/h will impact, depending as always on own strength and group around you. Usually not a big concern, but this year looking to attempt a sub3 Anybody else in 1D who will have a "serious" crack? Not sure it's possible from there....but will give it a bash
  16. There like a bear...in a CHOC suit lol Hope big numbers turn out to show the rest of the world our world-class (dusty) track and heaving spectators (not from beer). Should be awesome to watch....and enjoy. See ya all there
  17. Looks like the sub3 attempt going to be blown away....unless strong, tight groups are operating
  18. Pity it's not a little closer for me....
  19. Epic is going to be sharp, rocky, thorny, dry and powdery....so any tyre choice needs to reflect that AND your riding style!! If you're technically good and constantly pick your line, then you can possibly get away with thinner and lighter tyres. If not, take the more sturdy one's. Last thing you want to do if you're trying to survive, is plug holes frequently....
  20. Hey everyone....have a team e try but no partner no more. Who is keen to join. Spontaneous, flex and able? Give me a shout asap. Shot
  21. Just out of interest...which is now the correct site address for SAS? The one I Used to use doesn't work anymore...the one I found, doesn't seem to be spitting out the correct data....I'm confused
  22. Ready to go...if anyone isn't ready or is looking for a capable partner. Have serious FOMO...
  23. http://www.stiebel-eltron.co.za/waterheating.html tadaaaaaa
  24. Take me with!! Still have an open score to settle from previous two episodes! 1st one - day 3 stomach bug 2nd one - day two bonk at foot of Merino. 3rd one - need an entry!! anybody looking for a pawdner??
  25. This 100 miler is certainly very tough....you climb forever from the start until the top of Uitkyk Pass, then it evens out for a while then starts climbing again in short bursts. If you haven't done a 100 miler yet, rather start with the Amarider one for experience - that is definitely easier. Having said that, everything is doable at the correct speed - just make sure you pace yourself correctly and eat and drink well. Enjoy and good luck
