  1. ;ink to CAT 1 photo's https://www.facebook.com/owen.lloyd.za/media_set?set=a.10202998522782230.1073741845.1179242330&type=1
  2. Looks like this event was not supported by all the top teams, some saving the legs (or the finances) for SA Road Champs ?
  3. Two well known riders attacked in Port Elizabeth this week end for their bikes, both stabbed in the process. Kobus De Vos and Bruce Robinson. As long as people continue to buy dodgy bikes on Gumtree and OLX, this sort of thing will continue. The attackers did not take these bike for their own personal use.
  4. It was on between 8:15 and 8:30, did not catch all of it, but basically DALS go by the fact that there was no 3rd part involved, so the driver has no obligation to wait around. The driver claimed he was not insured, so they have no moral obligation to inform the insurance. The Tow truck driver denies removing the reg plate, as that would have been illegal to do.
  5. If the cost of traffic control is the reason (excuse) for the high costs, explain the high cost of the MTB events. Yesterdays event at Paarl cost R 150 for the 36Km MTB event (with PPA Discount). 6Km of the 36Km was on Tar, the rest was off road with farm workers doing the marshalling. Most of the intersection on tar were marshalled by Rotary volunteers, I only saw traffic officials at the last robot, 1km from the finish (where the MTB route merged with the road route). By comparison the entry fee for the 127Km road race was R 170, suggesting that they added R 20 for traffic control costs ? I cant speak for the road event, but the MTB riders were supplied with 2 water points with exactly that - warm water, no coke, or Energade etc. Are the MTB riders "subsidising" the road riders ?
  6. Not sure that DALS will co-operate. 10 years ago now, I was stationary at an intersection in Montague Gardens, a DALS tow truck on his way to a call out went through the intersection, smashing into another car, both then smashed into me, all three cars where written off, and ironically all 3 were towed away by DALS tow trucks. (they have a depo 500M away) Despite two witnesses to his reckless driving DALS refused to take action against the driver.
  7. The more people drink and drive, the more work there is for the tow truck drivers...
  8. They seem to have removed some of the WP4 times, but.. The same rider took over 7 Hours to WP1 , and then less than an hour from WP1 to the finish ?
  9. "upgraded" from Avid to XT last week, was tired of having to pump the rears to get the Avids to work. Fist ride with the new brakes, I went in to a corner at Hoogerkraal a little too fast and grabbed the brakes in reflex to the same extent I would have had to do with the Avids, front wheel locked and I went over the bars - first crash in nearly 3 years. Can't blame the brakes, they did what was asked of them !
  10. Sorry, I was not there last night...
