  1. What I do know is the UCI is very strict and requires countries enforce the non-Sanctioned event rules for riders. They can deny federations membership which means we will not be able to send riders to World Championships etc. On paper we should only want to participate in sanctioned events as minimum safety standards, insurances and rules SHOULD be in place. Unsanctioned events are not regulated by anybody; they can cut corners if they want. It free for the rider to decide if they willing to take the risks. I agree with you that you can chose what race you want to ride. But if you don't like the rules of a federation, province, club or race then don't join/enter them. If you break the rules, you agreed to uphold then you must face the consequences.
  2. You are right but when you take up UCI/CSA membership you agree that you will not participate in unsanctioned races and adhere to their rules. This includes all anti-Doping rules etc. Thus, they can sanction you for breaching the rules.
  3. Ahh, yes Doping sanctions with be published on Drug-free sport and then on CSA website. Other serious violations are also published on CyclingSA website. Some riders participating in a non-sanctioned race get a financial penalty, but this doesn't get publicized. The big sanctions are always the dopers, and this is available on Drug-Free website.
  4. I have never heard of individual sanctioning, only event sanctioning. The only other issue is CSA members with racing licenses can only ride CSA sanctioned events or face disciplinary actions.
  5. I think it all valid questions, but it should be directed to Paola Damilano (CyclingSA MTB Director) mtb@cyclingsa.com Hopefully you get a clear answer
  6. I doubt if an organizer is going to adhere to CyclingSA. What are they gaining if they are adhering to CyclingSA but the next organizer does not? I think all the organizers are fully aware off events going on around them, so it is ultimately their decision to continue on that date.
  7. I had a puncture 10km from the end. Did a 3:03... Still a good day out!
  8. I just had phone call with the former Head of Traffic in Krugersdorp, he retired in May of this year. He confirmed as per the photos, the section from Riverstone to Cradle Stone Mall is not freeway. We are allowed to cycle there. If the police do stop you, you cannot resist them. Even if they want to arrest you, you can open up a case afterwards of unlawful arrest.
  9. It is legal to ride there. It sounds more like Police that don't know their laws and wanting to show their authority....
  10. I tend to agree but if that is the reason majority of riders prefer to stay home then the organizer needs to listen. Let's hope they can get the race back to its former glory.
  11. It's a new organizer and they did a poll on what the riders liked and disliked. Apparently, riders complained the rough and loose rocks/conditions damaged their bikes too much. I think with the numbers dwindling over the years they need make a change. Let's see, hopefully the new route is challenging enough but also enjoyable.
  12. Hi, I am 190cm and ride a L Specialized Epic. I am about 2 cm away from max seat length and the stem is medium long. I could get a longer one if need be. My body fits into the bike geometry but on the upper end. If I had to buy a XL I would be mid-range with the bike geometry. To answer your question, yes you will be able to comfortably fit on a L but an XL will also work. I will come down to your personal preference.
  13. Gravel has its own rules under MTB in the CyclingSA Rulebook. Yes, gravel bikes cannot compete against MTB as drop handlebars are not allowed. The organizers should just sanction their events as gravel and not MTB. Then everybody can compete.
  14. I did it back in September. Really badly washed out. It's become very technical to descend and hard to climb. There are not much smooth sections left to get a rhythm. You are concentrating most of the way up to hold your line or accelerate over loose rock. If you are quite fit and strong then this can be a quality training session! Otherwise, you going to fight the bike all the way up and down, and your HR will be in the red most of the time...
  15. West Rand Cycling Club | Bionic Cycling Club They start from Saddlewoods @ 8 on a Saturday
