  1. OK so the Project is complete - had the head-tube lower bearing pocket machined out to take a standard 52mm headset bearing. This way I could mount the FOX 34 directly into the head-tube without using the conversion kit - that would have added another 14mm in stack height. I was already lifting the head by 30mm going from the Lefty to the FOX so did not want to introduce more trail distance if I can avoid it. Doing it this way the trail is now 101mm while the stock was 80mm. On the trails this is a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade over the Lefty in just about all suspension parameters...not to mention the 220g weight saving....
  2. Hi - does anyone know where I can source SS bearings for suspension joints? The most common one I have to replace regularly being the 6802-2RS - it seems no matter how I dry the bike out afterwards, water will make its way past the seals and rust up the bearing. So I want to try SS bearings instead....It is available through numerous outlets abroad - just thought I'd try local first....
  3. Hi Diesel&Dust I purchased a 34 SC Fox - 120mm. Now in the process of sourcing the headset bearing kit required - and it appears to be a bit of a challenge. There is a set for this "Cannondale Reducer Headset - SI/Headshok to 1.5"-1 1/8" tapered - KP205" pictured below - but seems not sure if available in SA. I can get a conversion set that was designed for the older scalpel 29 - but that will raise the stack height by about 15mm. Can you elaborate on "cane CFR wel angle set"??
  4. Hi All Need some pointers here - someone who has done this. What is a good choice for a 120-140mm conventional fork to replace my LEFTY 2.0 on my 2019 Scalpel Si? My primary motivation being better small bump compliance, more damping tunability and more travel. Don't want to sacrifice too much on weight - the LEFTY2.0 being 1600g. Looking at Fox 34 with FIT4 or Rockshox SID 120mm. Will going to 130mm or even 140mm be too much of a change of rake/trail? Understanding that these longer forks will be heavier than the 1600g of the LEFTY...any advice?
  5. Hi Folks Thanks for the replies. Yes it is the previous generation Scalpel. The previous reply from DieselnDust - will be the standard factory tune for which ever model you opt for - Lets say I go for the DPS - how do I know what the standard factory tune is?
  6. Hi Folks I want to fit a Fox DPS or earlier CTD to my Scalpel 29ER. I assume many has been through this exercise when replacing the Rockshox units. So hopefully someone out there can advise on what Fox Tune ID is the correct one for this particular bike? It could be either with or without remote lockout capability. For the record this is a 165X38mm shock frame. Advice would be appreciated! D
  7. Hi all I have a 5 spoke 110/74BCD Rotor 3D crank for which I need round rings to replace my Qrings. Other than importing Rotor branded rings for a bizillion rand, are there aftermarket options for 110/74 5 spoke rings? I need 25or26T and 40or41T Advice would be appreciated! d
  8. Years ago, I went on a mtb weekend with the GF and some buddies. Unpacked the car and loosely put the front wheel back in my bike (Outeniqua steel bike - who remember those?) with the intention to tighten up later (axle nuts -no QR). Being all mtb bedonnerd we could not wait to go for a sunset ride. A kilometre down the tar road I hauled the bike up for a spectacular hi speed wheelie. Only to be cruelly reminded that I never tightened that damn front wheel....it fell out of the fork and for a considerable time actually ran next to me. One huge face-plant – on tar – and a bent front fork later, my weekend was over before it began…
  9. 70km was an excellent route - Starting in 2degC was a challenge....but the first few flat kms helped to get the legs warmed up for the monster climbs. Then proper technical singletracks and DH's abound, flat and fast last few kms and spectacular scenery everywhere. DH's are not for skinny lightweight tyres as I have discovered. Route markers were dodgy at places - can see how people got lost - the only improvement I would suggest. Overall - well done van loveren. I will be back....
