It's not nearly as complicated as derailers. Chains requires lots of maintenance. They are not using an elastic, else it would be called the elastic bike. It uses a very inelastic string.

I have clip on mud guards which I put on when commuting in summer, and good lights. With those, on the bike, I wait for the storm to pass.

Very interesting. Lots of pros. I like the idea. Some concerns I have about the design: The cable outers for the gear selectors are constantly moving. How long will they last, and how much energy loss dose this cause? What free wheel ratchets are they using. I would think they need to be very fine, otherwise it will not be a smooth transmission. How wide apart are the pedals compared to traditional chain & sprocket designs?

Clubs typically don't mind visitors. You can diffidently come ride with my club (Cresta Wheelers), but we ride on a Sunday. Cyclelab ride on Saturdays from Cyclelab Fourways.

Here is my issue: They publish a document listing race that will be used for seeding: http://www.cyclechal...FileFromDisk/41 I expected to get a seeding because I have done 2 races on that list: Carnival City, and Emperors. Then I get put in to MM. This is not a bad seeding. It is an unseeded group according to http://www.cyclechal...FileFromDisk/40 . A bad seeding I would accept. But clearly they have not used the list of events that they said they would. This is also a slap in the face to the race organizers who are listed as seeding events, who advertise as 94.7 seeding events, and then don't get used. I'm sure geraldm24 is fuming. And to have this sorted out, I have to pay.

Elevation gain/descent measurements differ due to 2 reasons: Calculating elevation utilizing gps is very inaccurate. This is normally overcome by using a existing elevation database such as NASA's STRM database. This is what the Garman elevation correction feature does. The other issue is that gain/descent measurements suffer from the coastline paradox, that when you try measure it more accurately, you don't get a more accurate answer, just a bigger answer.

It was my first Amashova. I loved it. Beautiful scenery. Good atmosphere. Thanks to Lone Rider and Andyr249 for helping me out with working out a target time. I was hoping for a 3:15, and I did a 3:17, which I'm very happy with.
