    Amashova 2013

I'm starting in group C. Black BMC. If it's clear, I'll wear my Cresta Wheelers jersey. If it's raining, a yellow lumo rain jacket.

Talking about times, I've never done the Amashova before. I did Emperors Palace in 2:53 and Wilro in 3:28. Based on those times, what do you think I should aim for?
  4. Yhea - I'm finally riding my fixie project. Bought the bike for R600. Before photos: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7XWoHLgHhkrUTEyM1psaXJxSDQ&usp=sharing After: I'm very happy about how shinny the cranks and peddles came out after cleaning and polishing: I'm still going to put a front brake on, and bar tape once that is done.

Both have the following scale: Vertical: 100px = 100m Horizontal: 100px = 10km Don't get mislead by the graduations. The Argus vertical graduations are every 50m, the Amashova vertical graduations are every 100m. This does not change the scale. P.S. some times thehub's html causes the images to be resized. Click on the images to view at the original size.
  7. This is quite interesting to browse through: http://raceshape.com/heatmap/?lat=-28.935272602644492&lng=23.983154296875&zoom=6 It shows where Strava users ride a lot...

I'm looking to use the bus from DNB to PMB after the race. Do you need to book for it? What time, and from where does it leave?

  11. Finally
  12. I think that this photo was taken in 1984, as this was the only year TUC LU was a GIS Gelati sponsor. This is their full team that year: http://www.cyclingarchives.com/ploegfiche.php?id=6447
  13. The rider riding on the left (on the right hand side of the picture) is a GIS Gelati rider http://i.ebayimg.com/t/GELATI-GiS-Crackers-TUC-LU-BICE-Italian-Italy-Cycling-Race-Biking-Bike-Jersey-S-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMzA1/z/pd8AAOxyY3ZRukHC/$(KGrHqRHJE0FGWmoq,mPBRukHCCD1!~~60_57.JPG Notable riders include Giuseppe Saronni, Roger De Vlaeminck, Francesco Moser, Johan van der Velde, Adriano Baffi

  16. (The following applies to commuting, and not to sport.) There is quite a bit of data to show that mandatory helmet use discourages cycling. http://www.cyclehelmets.org/1241.html In 2009/2010 both Dublin and Melbourne introduced bike hire schemes. The schemes very similar except in Dublin helmet use was optional, and in Melbourne helmet use compulsory. Dublin was a success. Melbourne a flop. http://www.cyclehelmets.org/1211.html http://www.nber.org/papers/w15658

  18. If simplicity and low battery consumption are your criteria, I recommend Google My Tracks.
  19. I don't think there was a timing mat. I did notice an increase in the number of marshals approaching the turn around. A timing mat would be better to stop any cheats.
  20. I bonked in a major way at about 70km, and limped home 20min after the group I was with. Any way, nice race to get the season kicked off on. Nice to meet you bmw1za.
  21. I enjoy watching videos from this channel : http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67YlPrRvsO117gFDM7UePg. Some interesting videos on how they design their intersections. Lots of videos on new cycling infrastructure, and a few on the cultural impact of cycling.
  22. No problem. Thanks for checking.
  23. Anyone from the Randburg area want to share lifts?
