  1. I run rear brake left, front brake right. This is the only way guys, all of you who ride the other way need to change immediately. Statistic show that this orienation works better 60% of the time..... everytime!!! haha
  2. Hi Guys I just saw this on facebook, so thought I would duplicate it here... Good Morning All, Last night the Town Hill police stopped a vehicle that contained 21 bicycles destined for Malawi. We suspect that these bicycles where stolen locally (PMB Area), if you had a bicycle stolen in the past month or so please go to the Town Hill police station with proof and a way of identifying the bicycle. Please forward to as many residents in your community as possible. Kind Regards Peter Botha Security Manager : VCC Hope some people find there bikes!
  3. Pity I missed the first event, bike wasn't ready in time. Should finish it off this week, and hopefully be fit and ready for the second event
  4. Yeah will look into it, got some snowboarding goggles, not sure how different they are :/
  5. I got some new kit arriving this week pretty excited, now I won't have be part of the lycra crew at enduro events!!! Also hopefully no more fractured elbows! Still going to be rolling with a good old XC helmet for a while, and normal XC shoes. Will change as the need arises
  6. Sooo... this looked like a fantastic event, next year I'm gonna fly/drive down for it Really glad to see Enduro taking off nicely in SA, it must be the most fun that can be had on a bike!!! ... Unless you're Kanye
  7. Just picked up a hub conversion kit from him yesterday. Good bloke, good service... got my parts pretty quickly for me. Btw... build is looking very nice!!! Looking forward to seeing the finished build
  8. Yeah thinking of polishing up the Truvativ crankset, and putting the chainring on there, because financially I should probably sell my XT crankset
  9. Well if I buy a new shifter, then I can sell my other groupset as complete? Was thinking the Zee rear mech is probably better suited for my application (shorter cage), it's also clutch and only slightly heavier. Then as previously I can sell my complete groupset. How much do you think I can fetch for this groupset? All brand new, not 1km, 2014 stuff 2 Slx Shifters Xt rear mech Slx front mech Xt 2x10 crankset Xt cassette KMC x10 chain
  10. Okay so I'm thinking of going 1x10 with a Narrow-wide Chainring up front. Looking at getting: Race Face 32t narrow-wide chainring Shimano Zee Rear Shadow+ derailleur Shimano Zee Shifter I already have: Shimano XT rear derailleur SLX Shifters SLX front derailleur XT 2x10 crankset Thinking of buying the former and then selling the latter, should be able to sell the latter for more than the 1x10 setup will cost. Any opinions or advice for this?
  11. I was planning on going 2x10, since I have already have a 2 ring XT crankset, however I could still go 1x10! What are the advantages of 1x10? What would you guys do, 2x10 or 1x10? Bear in mind I will be doing most of my riding at Giba Gorge, and the climbs are gnarly!!! Still wanna be able to pedal up those climbs.
  12. These guys
  13. Bought them off Amazon actually, paid R700 for them. I have a friend coming over next month, so she's bringing all those clothing items over, so now I won't have to pay the ridiculous duties on them Paid R700 Troy Lee Baggies R320 Fox Jersey R400 Fox Elbow Pads R600 Fox Knee Pads R250 Fox Gloves I think those are all pretty cheap, I'm sure it would cost a **** load more locally!
  14. Yeah it is, it's the Shadow+ which I believe is clutch type?? I quite like the gripshift though to be honest, it's pretty nice!!! I'll try check out the current derailleur, and see which exact model it is. How do you know if the chain is too long? Is there a method for checking this?
  15. Some other things arriving to go with the bike Given that I fractured my elbow a few months ago at Giba Gorge, I figured some protection is in order Fox Launch Pro Knee and Elbow Pads Some sweet shorts, so I don't look like an XC'er at the wrong event And a long sleeve jersey And some full finger gloves
  16. Taking the elixirs off, and putting on the SLX brakes! This isn't even an option for me, not a fan of Avid brakes at all!!! And I've heard fantastic things about the SLX brakes
  17. Ok other than that... I need some advice I have a full SLX/XT groupset sitting in my cupboard, brand new! The bike currently has: SRAM XO Rear Derailleur Shimano XTR front derailleur SRAM XO gripshifts Now I'm getting quite a lot of chain slap, what are the possible causes and fixes for this? Should I consider changing the rear derailleur to my XT derailleur? and use the SLX shifters? I like the gripshifts, but the chainslap is quite noticeably bad!!
  18. Haha ur too fast, and my typing is too slow.... See post 3
  19. Okay so upgrades!!!! Here is a list of upgrades I'm planning on: Putting on my my set of Easton Haven wheels Removing the Elixir R brakes and putting on my new SLX brakeset 180mm front 160mm rear Dropper Seatpost - Went with Gravity Dropper Turbo LP 5" (wanted the reliability) - plan on removing the boot cover, cause it's uuuugly! Changing the ugly front crankset to 2x10 XT crankset Changing the bars to myy Spank Oozy 720mm rizer bars Changing the stem to Race Face Respond 60mm stem - also changing the spacers to black and top cap to black race face Cables!!! I hate those ugly red cables, so those will be changed to black Saddle, just going with a WTB Pure V, the current saddle is harder than a brick! Tyres: Front - 2.4 Conti Mtn King (I've got 3 other 2.4 tyres, so will see) Rear - 2.2 Conti Mtn King Grip - ESI Chunky That's about it!!! I'm keeping the frame and fork basically Fork - Rock Shox Sektor Dual Position Coil 120-150mm travel Shock - Upgraded to Rockshox RP23 - 5.5" travel i think
  20. Ok so I decided to start a new thread, seeing as that my original thread was for a completely different bike, and that never happened at all, so this thread will be for my current build which is definitely happening. So I'm building up a 2012 Giant Trance X 26er I'll start off with some pictures of the bike in it's current state, but there is quite a bit of work to be done, and a lot of parts on their way. Okay so not too many photos yet, but I'm not too impressed with the current asthetics of the bike, so some improvements are gonna be made.
  21. I'm purchasing a whole lot of stuff off Chainreaction, and they currently have a 10% off everything promo. Just a heads up, not a bad time to buy stuff!
  22. Yeah just really made my money back, added on 200 to make back what it cost me for shipping. Figured it would be a bit unethical to buy something on the hub, and then sell it 2weeks later for more
  23. I can't really answer that right now. But the cables have been rerouted as you can probably see. I just bought the bike on monday when I was in cape town, waiting for it to get delivered to durban now. But when inspecting the bike I dont think I noticed much cable rub where the cables are running now. I bought the bike from a guy in bike shop, and he seemed to know his stuff, so maybe he rerouted the cables up there to neaten up and prevent rub... I'm not sure, just speculating at this point in time.
  24. Thanks man!!! Yeah that's what I'm thinking of doing. The truvativ crank is not too good looking in my opinion. I've actually got a 2 ring XT crank, which is nice. But then I would probably have to find a Sram derailleur for that and a new gripshift? Or can I just set a stopper on current derailleur and keep that and the shifter?
  25. Thanks man, I'm at least happy that I've saved like 10-15k, and still got a pretty capable bike I think. Goose I sold off that fork I bought from you when my original build collapsed. Yeah will see how the RS goes...
