  1. Ok... So I got my new bike this week, here's the details: 2012 Giant Trance X2 26er Frame Rock Shox Sektor 120-150mm Adjustable front fork Fox RP23 Rear Shock SRAM XO gripshifts and derailleurs 3x10 Truvativ crankset Avid Elixir R Brakes with 203mm rotors Front Wheel - Alex DA16 on hope hub with Conti Mtn King 2.4 rubber Rear Wheel - Alex DH22 on shimano hub with Conti X-King 2.4 rubber Think that's about it, picked it up for 9k. I thought it was quite a steal? Cosmetically there is a few things I wanna do, first of which is getting rid of the fugly red cables. I will probably change the brakes, as I've got a brand new set of SLX brakes. I don't the wheels are too grand, so I'll be keeping my eyes out for a replacement set. I've actually got a entire new XT/SLX groupset which I bought for the original build. I'm not sure if I should fit the whole thing, or just the brakes and sell the rest :/ The gripshift is actually pretty sweet, and shifts pretty well... Any comments or suggestions are welcome
  2. Thanks for the heads up, but I got something else.
  3. Creatine won't really help with endurance like many people said, but could be beneficial on a shorter race with lots of short sprints (XCO, Enduro)... It will help allow your muscles to recover more quickly inbetween sprints (Assists regeneration of ATP). I've taken creatine a few years ago when weight training, and never experienced cramps. Could be dehydration, you should increase you fluid intake to beyond 2l a day, probably closer to 3l, but this will depend on your body mass. Edit: I see a lot of BS flying around this thread by people who seem to think they know something. I suggest the OP researches for himself, and decides whether it is beneficial... Don't even take what I've said as true.
  4. Bike already has a 130-150mm fork fitted should slacken up that headtube angle a bit
  5. Yeah I feel like I've been on a run of bad luck the last few months, hopefully it ends soon Yeah I'd rather spend the extra money on travelling and then train harder to make up the 10-15seconds a better bike would give me on an enduro run.... Looking at Giant Trance, found a pretty nice one I think... Should do the trick
  6. Yeah I'm pretty unhappy about it all... but hey it's life, **** happens. Frame I was supposed to be getting got sold out Unfortunately my friend in the states never listened to me when I asked them to buy it asap for me, as it will get sold out Anyway, since then I've been sitting with a set of wheels and a fork that works with just about no frames... There was a Blur LTc for sale locally here, which I nearly bought, but costs were getting out of control... I decided I'm still relatively new to riding, and couldn't justify spend close to 35k on bike, unless I'm competing for top positions in enduro races, and we have maybe a few a year here in SA. ... So I'd rather spend the money on travelling probably... Anyway I've since found a fairly nice bike for sale, which I'm going to see next week, and is going to be a heck of a lot cheaper. Won't be as good as the Blur LT, but ito value for money I think it's a fantastic deal. And it will be a far better Trail/AM bike than my Specialized Epic... Yeah so that's basically the story of my life.... Haha Appreciate everyone's help in this thread, and apologize that it's all been in vain.... See you all on the trails...
  7. Edited: Build is no more... :(
  8. Lol neither did I. I literally bought a fork, and figured it out afterwards. Was mission, had to find zero stack headsets, and low stack stem etc etc. Busy with my first bike build, well buying components anyway... Learning a lot everyday
  9. Check the link I posted
  10. Yeah I'm just reading now on the spec sheet for the 40mm race face stem, they say do not exceed the 3mm clearance. I guess it could give an uneven clamping Just gonna have to fork out the extra bucks, and do things properly rather than be a cheapo... haha
  11. Hi Guys So building up a new bike. I've got a fork with a 175mm steerer length... And I'm fitting it to a frame with a 120mm headtube length, which leaves 55mm for headset and stem I'm fitting a headset with a stack height of 20mm. Which technically leaves 35mm for a stem right? However, I've read that you should subtract 3mm from this stack height to allow for a gap between the top of the steerer column and the top of the stem... http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/fork-column-length-and-sizing So that would mean I would need to fit a 3mm spacer if I'm using a 35mm stem right? My question is if I bought a stem with a stack height of 40mm (which tends to be a lot cheaper), would it be ok to have a 5mm gap, or is this excessive??
  12. Shimano DX pedals, good decision right???
  13. I wish!!! Last race I was in Lesotho, this race I'm in cape town on that weekend!!! I'm literally always in durban, but it seems the races are planned on weekends that I'm away. I think it's cause they know I'm gonna win
  14. I know it's a bad situation, good for LBC's though, more business for them. I'm bringing in wheels and a groupset from the UK, and the pound has gone from like 15.70 to 16.40 in probably a week or two... Sucks!!!
  15. Looked at the Sukuma, it looks good but I prefer the Santa Cruz hey... My build gonna end up around 25k according to my calcs :/ If the rand can stop falling
  16. Thanks, but unfortunately my cash supply is limited. If I had the money I'd get a Bronson, no questions about it. However I'm getting the Blur LT frame for 900$, and that frame is about twice the price
  17. hahaha some classic questions there. I think this has to be my favourite, especially the last comment, hahahaa
  18. Will do. Unfortunately frame will only arrive in december, as I'm getting someone to bring it over for me. But I want it now!!!!! then I can also sell my current bike, and improve my cashflow situation!
  19. Yeah it's a tapered headtube on the frame, the fully built bike kit actually comes with a pretty similar fork.
  20. Anybody got any advice on the above? Should be awesome machine Gonna come in at around 25k with all new parts besides the fork... I'm not sure if I should cut some costs, wheelset is coming in at R4700. So I could save close to 2k if I went for mavic crossrides or something
  21. Ok so here is an update on my build, nothing purchased yet, but pretty close to buying everything!!! Frame: 2013 Santa Cruz Blur LT 2.3 140mm Front Fork: 2012 Fox Float 32 FIT RLC 150mm with Kashima Wheels Front & Rear: Mavic EN521 Black Rims Hope Pro 2 Evo Hubs (blue) AC S/S DB Spokes Can get same wheels with ZTR flow hoops for 20 pounds less, however stuck with black hubs, and will have upgrade rear hub to 142x12. (Is it worth going for DT Swiss competition spokes? Will cost an extra R500, and then I can get spokes in black too) Groupset : 2014 SLX 2x10 Headset: Hope Pick n' Mix (only one I can find that fits) Other than this... Need to find a stem. Looking at around 60mm, wanna try find something in blue to match the hubs. Looking at this one, just waiting to find out if anyone has stock of 60mm. I think the 45mm will be too short Already got Spank Oozy Bars Otherwise any advice on seatpost? Don't have money for a dropper at this point... Then will need to organize some tyres
  22. Tks guys for the updates. I see there is a 2008 Specialized Enduro SL Comp for sale for R13k in the classifieds. However, it has allegedly only been ridden twice in 5yrs but doesn't seem like a bad buy, gonna cost about half of what I'm gonna spend. Somehow I'm still inclined to spend double though, haha!!!
  23. Thanks for the link, looks pretty good. However, those wheels, I'm seeing very mixed views on them from what I can find on the net. Otherwise slx, and fox front fork would be pretty suitable. Size is not right for me either, so no chance I'd keep the frame
  24. A bit on the expensive side unfortunately. I like spank, got the oozy bars, they're pretty sweet, light too and didn't pay much for them.
  25. Pm'ed you
