  1. PPA and CSA: The way forward In February 2012, CSA wrote PPA out of its constitution despite PPA being granted entrenched rights in perpetuity in CSA’s founding constitution of 2004; PPA having been a primary motivator for unification prior to 2004. Amongst others, the CSA founding constitution granted PPA the rights to register our members and run our affairs as we have done since PPA was formed some 30 years ago, including the right to coordinate our funride calendar without requiring pre-approval or sanctioning from CSA. Since February 2012, PPA has been trying to resolve the issue with CSA through various meetings, emails and other forms of communication, with no forward movement on the matter. In an attempt to finalise the matter, PPA has now filed an application in this regard with the High Court of South Africa. “We are concerned that cyclists, and cycling as a whole, will be penalized through the lack of finalization of the current situation,” said PPA Chairman Steve Hayward. “We again want to reiterate that PPA did not ask to leave the CSA fold, and are resorting to legal means since all other attempts to resolve the matter have been unsuccessful. We simply want to continue as we have done since 1976, promoting cycling and the rights of cyclists in various ways.” The founding affidavit can be found at this link. The Notice of Motion can be found here This was on the PPA website. It seems they have a historical precedent from when CSA was formed, it will be interesting to see if a Judge upholds that precedent.

  3. UK post is taking about 4-6 weeks to get to SA. I bet it turns up eventually but it's just very slow at the minute.
  4. We have a guy like that who cycles in our club. He does the exact same thing. He did it to me once and now if i see him coming up alongside me i just move over a tiny bit and take up a bit of the space he usually goes into. It is a pain in the @ss though. Some of them just don't learn.
  5. Well, on this topic, when we had the idea for our own small online shop we did contact some of the larger local distributors here in SA. We were basically told ' nope, we won't supply you because the LBS stores with physical premises are complaining that online stores can sell the stuff for cheaper'. Now I fully understand that there is an important place for the LBS, but they aso have to get their act together and get online because internet shopping isn't going to go away. We have had mall retail shops, staff, theft, etc etc etc and I don't want to go that route again. So in a way, the market is perhaps controlled to a certain degree in relation to the prices of locally distributed items. Personally I would like to also be able to shop locally and support jobs here in SA but we were forced to go abroad because I don't give up so easily. So sometimes our prices for certain items are maybe a bit more expensive than local guys but we try our best and I know a lot of our prices (esp for clothing) are lower even though we have to import. It's tough out there, and with the exchange rate woes it's going to affect everyone because somewhere along the line I would say that 95% of this stuff is imported. But hey, onwards and upwards, and I can still go ride my bike !!!!!
  6. Hi jamie/Whatsup, I have a bucket list, which is actually very short, but one of the things on it is to go and see the battle fields, cemetries, memorials etc from WW1. I've done parts of France, - Brittany, Normandy, Ardeche, Provence, the West Coast etc but never the NE or E of France. I would love to take my bike and go and do the tour in that area. When you were touring around, did you have pre-booked accommodation or did you just wing it and hope for the best depending on where you ended up? Cheers Stephen
