  1. Actually, I could easily live without the pink - but the saddle is just SOOOOOOOOO cool!
  2. Zoo Lake at 8 seems to be off and will hopefully be rescheduled. We'll be at Vida around 10:00, then leave around 10:45 for a leisurely ride down past Zoo Lake, etc.
  3. I think rescheduling is a good option. Matic and I plan to ride fixies tomorrow anyway but will now do so from home, heading for the Vida e Caffe on the corner of 7th Ave and 3rd at the top end of Parkhurst / bottom end of Parktown North (at least I think it's 3rd - opposite Malcolm Dorfman Karate). Should be there at about 10:00 - anyone who's in the area join us there for a cup of coffee? We'll probably head home again around 10:45. Suggestions for a new date?
  4. Anyone have any good ideas on accommodation that won't utterly destroy the bank?
  5. Hey Soulrider - the above pic is my son's bike... this is mine: But do check-out Slowtwitch's bike - very cool 1973 DHC... NickM2009-06-09 01:41:53
  6. Hey Thug... actually we've just started doing the fixie thing so we chose somewhere to go play that didn't have too much traffic. Pic is of my son. To be honest, I found downhills more scary than the ups, although the ups are hard work with the fixed gear. Needless to say, we didn't do the serious hills and stuck mostly to the relative flats. Steep downhills hold the potential for disaster as "braking" requires you to ride slower than gravity would like you to. It "donners" your knees and varous leg muscles that haven't been used much before. But it WAS a lot of fun... a REALLY pure form of cycling. Might be nice to have at least one brake for traffic, though...
  7. Look Ma - No Brakes.... Learning to fly yesterday in the Suikerbosrand...
  8. Zoo parking lot start and finish? Easy and safe. Coffee break somewhere in Rosebank?
  9. For those of you who missed the post: SS / Fixie ride planned for 16th June - check it out: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=51495
  10. OK for June 16th. Two of us... Sandton is good.
  11. Rosebank is good - fairly flat thereabouts... Maybe start at the zoo and do a lekker circuit through Saxonwold and the neighbouring areas. Coffee stop in Rosebank mandatory...
  12. Thanks, Thug! And Soulrider.
  13. Daccordi steel track frame. Based in Joburg.
  14. Cooooool like that! Anyone have any suggestions for a likely venue?
  15. Kept with the original Daccordi frame colour (dark blue) as the base, then lighter blue to make it easier to match-in bits like tyres, saddle, etc. Could have stayed with a solid single blue but felt this might be too "flat"... An all-black fixie could be cool... if repainting the frame maybe consider a "glitter" under the clear final coat? Or a bling logo on the frame somewhere?Else a dark blue / indigo could also work with the red accents... My 2c worth. Maybe we should suggest a FLAT day ride for Hubbers with fixies somewhere in the Gauteng area? My son is building one up as well... earliest for me would be sometime in June as I'm mostly away between now and then.
  16. Thanks. Not sure my lower back would manage a flipped stem!
  17. ... and a few hours later...
  18. ... right down to a new Daccordi signature!
  19. Fixie Project - frame received back from Cliff & Lil this morning... still a way to go though...
  20. That's VERY cool! Not sure I'd be keen to ride it any significant distance, though...
  21. I like the kit if you don't mind it appearing at the back of the field as well as at the front of the pack on exciting lead-outs; etc. etc. Just remind me why I'd buy it and advertise OTC, Mirra etc if there's no subsidy involved?
  22. I could go for the cooking forum... and an agony aunt's column... and a Zuma Jokes forum. But I'm also happy with the way it is...
