  1. Agreed. The wife and I watch more Hulu than Netflix. I find Hulu better for TV shows and Netflix better for movies. I currently use Apple TV to stream so Amazon Prime isn't an option as the service / app isn't supported on the older Apple TV. We had a trial HBO subscription for a while also which is good, but I suspect will get old quickly once you've watched their limited set of (very good) shows.
  2. Anyone here doing interesting things or have experience with Raspberry Pi computers? I recently set up a Pi 2 to do all my downloading and to host Plex. Works great. Next plan is to build one next to the TV running KODI.
  3. Check if House Of Cards is available. It's not in the SA store due to Multichoice owning the rights in SA.
  4. Weird. I'm unable to access Netflix from my pc via UnoTelly (DNS error) but my AppleTv on the same network still works fine. Hope its just a temporary issue.
  5. That's exactly how my setup works. Set the UnoTelly DNS addresses in the DHCP section of your router so that every device on the network asking for an IP address gets the UnoTelly DNS as the standard. Another trick that works really well is to have the router automatically update UnoTelly whenever its IP changes like after a reset or when Telkom decides to reset the connection. UnoTelly has good instructions how to do this on their site somewhere. Edit: Grammar
  6. UnoTelly won't influence ShowMax. UnoTelly is selective to particular sites / web addresses for example www.netflix.com and www.hulu.com and only "intervenes" when one of the those addresses are requested.
  7. Interesting article at the link below on how to view Netflix content in very specific genre categories. I'll give it a try myself later this afternoon. http://flip.it/UjM6-
  8. Try Westdene Cycles around the corner from University of Johannesburg. They've been around a really long time and do carry stock of older bike parts.
  9. I pestered my Dad into getting me some of the 1st indexed shifters at the time (hey, my mates had them!) so my original part is a Shimano Light Action 6 speed indexed shifter for the rear and a friction shifter for the chainrings. I never properly experimented but my original derailleur and friction shifter definitely didn't have the range of motion required for a 10 cog cassette. Will you use the original shifter with a MTB spec derailleur? I was surprised to learn Shimano makes up to 10 speed downtube shifters. Linden Cycles found me a pair of Dura Ace 10 speed indexed downtube shifters for under R1k. I'm pretty sure the indexing between MTB and Road group sets are the same so you could go with a indexed shifter also as an option. There is something to be said for having the ability to fine tune with a friction shifter though!
  10. Finished my baby yesterday in modern guise here with a 10 speed drivetrain and modern wheel-set. She runs like a dream. This is the 1st road bike I owned. I went to the factory with my Dad to pick out the frame somewhere in the late 80s. It'll go back to 6 speed and original parts after the 94.7. Just need a better wheel set from the period still as the Wolbers I have are terrible wheels.
  11. I use FNB's version of Paypal for Unotelly but I'm pretty sure they'll take an SA credit card. DNS location changers are semi legal is it is so I can't imagine they'll be to picky about where you pay them from. I pay both Netflix and Hulu with an SA credit card using an American street address. The address is not validated, only the zip code is. In other words, you can use your own street address, but use 90210 Beverly Hills California as suburb and zip code.
  12. And to directly answer the question: I doubt I've ever reached 720p on Netflix streaming with a 4MB line. My sense is it maxes out at 480p most of the time. A 2MB line should also reach 480p but will take longer to do so.
  13. I used to run Netflix on 2MB ADSL before upgrading to 4MB. The difference between the two is that Netflix takes longer to improve quality the slower your link is. Netflix always starts at a super low quality and improves the resolution in the background while you watch. As such, on 2MB you may watch a minute of blocky quality before it smoothes out while 4MB will only take a couple of secs. I've also found that capped bandwidth works better than uncapped.
  14. It is yes. Netflix content is different in every country where they operate. UnoTelly allows you to switch your location to access other Netflix regions. I've not tried it but read somewhere Chile has the most content.
  15. Thanks, switched to Unotelly and Hulu and most of the US TV channels now work. They also offer a number of useful services that my previous provider, JustUnblock, does not at the same price.
  16. Cancelled DSTV about a year ago and have been experimenting with various streaming and download options since. My current setup is 4mb ADSL (180gb capped via WebAfrica) + Apple TV (US itunes account) + JustUnBlock to make Netflix think I'm in the US + Netflix. Works like a bomb for about R160 per month excl ADSL cost. You can also watch some of the free US channels that ship with the Apple TV like PBS and of course rent movies on iTunes. Next challenge is to get Hulu+ working. Netflix tends to show older TV series while Hulu has all the latest stuff. Can anyone suggest a good DNS or VPN provider that works with Hulu?
  17. You can also just have the wheel rebuilt on a new rim. I've replaced both my Alexrims with DRC rims from Linden Cycles for under R1k incl. labour each.
  18. Had one for about a year. Works well although you will get minor scratches on your car if there's any dust or dirt under the clamps. I found it a mission to mount two bikes on it, nevermind the origami skills required for 3. Changed it for a rack on which the bike stands rather than hangs which is a far better solution IMHO. Racks like the Thule Euroway are more expensive but much less effort. Thule now also makes a stander rack that works without a towbar.
  19. I work in JHB CBD and noticed about a year ago that parts of the original signage for the Doors is still visible where they were before moving to Edenvale. Close to the Carlton centre.
  20. Thanks Guys, Wife's doing much better and even attended the Tread intermediate 1 skills course over the last weekend so she's back on the bike! ???? She fell on the straight dirt road near the end of the green route approaching the small wooden gate before the tar section. Last time I rode there a couple of months ago there was a single track leading to that wooden gate but they seem to have changed the route significantly. It's much harder now. Shame that the wife did all the difficult stuff and then fell on an easy section just because a momentary loss of concentration.
  21. Sounds like the brakes may just need a bleed. Reviews are not very positive though so maybe look for a pair of Shimano's or Formula's on the Hubs classifieds. http://www.mtbr.com/cat/brakes/disc-brake-system/hayes/sole-hydraulic/prd_415525_1507crx.aspx
  22. To the two cyclists who stopped to help my wife after a nasty crash near the end of the Modders green route this morning around 11, our gratitude and thanks. The feeling of community and willingness to help is one of the things we enjoy most about mountain biking. Thanks also to everyone who came past and checked whether we were OK. A thorough checkup showed no damage other than a serious shiner. Thanks again!
  23. I had the same issue on my 2012 Formula RX until I read somewhere on the Hub that Formula brakes are notorious for going out of alignment and rubbing the rotor if a wheel is removed. The fix is to loosen the 2 bolts holding the brake in place about one turn, pull the break lever once to align the caliper and re-tighten the bolts. Worked like a charm in my case. 24. My MD19s came on my GT from the factory so I would assume they were correctly built, just a crappy product (the wheels, the bike's awesome). Very good advice for my upgrade though. Would you recommend buying the components and taking them to a builder or buying a pre-built wheel?
  25. Mmm. I'm also about 110kg with kit. Arch or Flow then? Decisions decisions. I'm starting to understand how I managed to destroy my one Alexrims MD19 & why the other one needs so much love from the spoke wrench.
