  1. In Andrew's defense, here is the "before" photo of him slamming on the brakes!
  2. But I have to add, the marshal was on point and stood there directing the guy while another was finding and fixing the tape!
  3. The biggest surprise to some was that there was no tape for a couple of minutes while the marshals scrambled to find a new piece to put back up, since a someone decided the tape makes a nicer decoration on his bike!
  4. This corner caught a couple of oaks off guard!
  5. Took this photo during stage 3 at the Epic, she knew, we didnt:
  6. Nissan Trailseeker in Grabouw this past weekend :D That was fun!!
  7. Yea with zoom lenses there are more glass, more elements, more stuff that needs to happen before you are zoomed in, in focus and ready to shoot. With primes, all it needs to do is focus and that happens way faster than on zooms. The quality of zooms are pretty darn good ... the quality of primes are just better. The difference in quality is not something you are going to spot straight away anyway, especially if you are shoothing with camara that has a 24/32 or 42mp sensor anyway. You would have to dig deep into the photo quite a bit before starting to notice any differences. Some top shooters use only zoom's others use only primes. Its a personal preference for a spesific application (in most cases) I've tried zoom's and they definitely came in handy from time to time. BUT I asked myself this one question... do you want it easy or do you want quality?
  8. Oh and on another note I just did quite a couple of updates on my website, if you feel like browsing through, please do and let me know if you spot any bugs! www.henkneuhoff.com
  9. I sold all my zoom lenses ... nothing beat prime. Yup there is only prime lenses in my bag now! Yes I do need to carry more gear but I also shoot with two bodies, so it makes it easier. I will normally have a the 35mm on one body and the 300mm on another. Room to play with and then some! Shooting with these at the moment: Sigma 35mm 1.4 Nikon 50mm 1.8 Nikon 85mm 1.4 - Loooooove this lens Nikon 300mm 2.8 - This is my main sport/action lens, the focus on this bad boy is soooooo fast, I cant describe! Yea they are not bad but after getting the 300mm - I havent missed zoom's one bit! Oh I must say the new Nikon 70-200 with FL and all the fancy stuff, has insane quality, had a look at Craig Kolesky's new baby the other day and I am truly impressed!
  10. Thats the best, learn to use what you've got and what it can do before falling into the "I must have the latest and greatest gear" trap! The best camera ... is the one in your hand!
  11. I would be keen! I normally shoot for WP MTB association for the XCO races!
  12. Thank you Andrew, that was good fun! I have not done a wedding myself but Ive been 2nd shooter before ... waaaaay less pressure! That is probably the one thing I did like about the whole day, you have to get creative quickly, no time to overthink the shots, you just have to get on with it! But I am always keen to improve and learn new skills and grabbed at the opportunity. I am more accustomed to using natural light, especially when shooting fast moving sports or action ... no time to fiddle with lights or gear. This would be a type of shot I am more used to, no flash or anything other than natural light (and a bit of light from Lightroom )
  13. Anyone do anything new with their photography of late? I had to opportunity to learn from top wedding photographer, Kobus Tollig, and do some work in studio with strobe lightning, modifiers and diffusers ... and boy was that fun! Not something I normally shoot but I love trying all these different aspects of photography! What do you recon?
  14. Since it is Friday an all that! Heres a quick behind the scenes video I compiled:
  15. After this little dudes crash, the concentration not to fall again was just priceless!
  16. What seems like a small rut to us ... is like a moerse sloot to these little guys. There were a couple of them struggling here:
  17. Thank you! All is good, here is the photo following his tumble. I could not help but laugh as he got up "Pappa dit was lekker!" :w00t:
  18. Try looking at it this way, what you were doing at the time, was interesting to you, that is after all why you did it but that is not necessarily going to be interesting for someone else to watch, not all of it. Watching someones whole day out on a bicycle, not so interesting. Watching someones day out on a bicycle doing the fast stuff, downhill, whips, jumps, crashes, single-track, forrest ... a little more interesting. Anyway enough about that. If the criticism is constructive I think it helps in the end. Thats why I dont like asking my wife for criticism on my photos, bless her, she is all like "oooh dit is moooooi!" while I am thinking ... the highlights are blown, the color is off, its over saturated, there is not enough contrast and do I really like this composition?
  19. Are you up for some constructive criticism? (with a pinch of salt since I am no video expert!) Clearly you are doing some editing, there are some transitions and music. (admittedly, I did not watch the whole 19minutes!) Try making it shorter, much shorter, at 2 minutes you start pushing it already. Cut all the climbing, carpark and start area type of stuff. Feature the highlights only. If you go over 2 minutes, it needs to be gripping, interesting, leaving you wanting more... Like this for example, get a coffee before you start and then tell me you did not watch the whole thing cause you couldn't help yourself! (Local boytjie, Bryn North)
