  3. What I learnt today: Cycling to work is much quicker than driving. Average time is 30 min drive, whereas today it took me 27min at a slow average speed of 28km/h by bike. Woke up a bit late so I cycled directly to the office. Normally would take a round about trip to make the distance 20km with some hills. Commute was 11.9km with relatively flat roads. Also, some taxi drivers are actually friendly and will hoot in a friendly manner when passing, with one even driving alongside me for a bit (probably thinking i am crazy).
  4. This will be my first full distance Shova, having done the 35km twice (on a Pick n Pay Raleigh MTB). Looking forward to it.

    Got hit by taxi

This upsets me because I am a member of the car modding community as well (although mods are mild and tasteful). Sadly the majority of these idiots behave like knobs and paint everyone in a bad light. My car also has tinted windows and shiny wheels (because they are clean, they actually black), but I drive within the limits for the most part. If I see a cyclist in traffic while I am driving, I will attempt to ride behind them to act as a shield against idiots. And then idiots go and do the above... Major derail. Sorry OP. We just have to think for ourselves and all the other idiots on the road. Thank goodness you have spiderman reflexes. Hopefully you heal up and repair soon. unfortunately I dont have any MTB spares,as I am a new cyclist and only road at the moment.

    Got hit by taxi

What I have noticed is that whenever there is a horrific accident involving a taxi, you will find 10-30 people dead, and most times the driver gets off with minor injuries. Last night while riding the circuit in Durban, a Municipal bus skips the red light, cutting into the cycle lane (which is reserved for cyclist during peak hours), coming fairly close to me and another rider. I just saw fingers going up from the other guy. Retardation is not restricted to taxi drivers, it is unfortunately a feature of humans. Thats why natural selection should be left to happen and we can reduce the stupid in the population.

    Got hit by taxi

As a commuter i understand your frustration with these idiots. Dont hold your breath on the insurance. Owner promised to get his insurer involved to pay my excess when I was rear ended by his taxi. A year later my insurer still hasnt recovered my excess.
  8. Misleading title
  9. I have the Scott S30 with Tiagra Components. As far as I know its a 2012 (black frame with white and blue decals). I have had it since the start of August, and have ridden the Engen Cycle Challenge Durban. Bike feels awesome and gears perfect for me. It is also an awesome looking bike. No problems yet.
  10. Try going in by car once a week, say a friday (so you can get home earlier on a friday and commence the drinking), and move your clothes between home and work then, as well as towels etc.
  11. If it is a small towbar rack, those dont have taillights. Otherwise, OP could always put a few LED lights on the rack
  12. You should also try visit Giba Gorge in Pinetown. It is a really nice spot for riding and also has facilities to keep the family entertained while you ride. R40 gets you in.
  13. Any contact with your paint will damage it. Remember that the rack is going to be making constant contact with the same spot on your car.
  14. Just saw the showers. Clean and under lock and key. Going to cut my set of keys lunch time.
  15. My 2nd week at a new employer. Going to take a tour of the shower facilities and have a key cut (if the showers are clean). So hopefully my commuting will begin again tomorrow
  16. BTW, we had a moonlight mass ride last night through the Durban CBD. Turnout was much better than the last Midnight mass ride. The CBD is awesome at night.

  18. My 3rd Amashova. 1st time doing the full distance as I have done the 35km twice on a Pick n Pay special Raleigh MTB,
  19. At least the Falke's are black and not highlighter yellow.
  20. Free Willy today?
  21. In light of the comment above, maybe I will just use Endo to track the ride tonight, and export to Strava. Its a once off occurrence so not too much hassle.
  22. I use Strava for tracking my rides and run. I prefer the interface. But Endo has the route planning function, which I need tonight as I am leading the Moonlight Mass ride in Durban, and using the Endo route created by the normal ride co-ordinator. I prefer to run them concurrently rather than the hassle of importing/exporting GPX files. Thanks for the responses.
  23. I tried searching unsuccessfuly on here. Can these apps be run concurrently? I have a Galaxy S2.
  24. Fortunately the 2 remaining bolts are on opposite ends of the rings, so I can use the bigger rings, but I just wont put too much pressure on them. Looks like i have to use the training bike for the rest of the week
  25. Somehow lost 3 chain ring bolts on the way to work. I think i didnt tighten properly when I replaced the middle ring. I will be riding home in granny gear all the way.
