  1. Shouldnt all stores have a scale on hand in any case?
  2. Agreed. Agreed...I am looking for a pair of carbon shoes this weekend, which for me is a big purchase as these items arent cheap. I will not even go past CL Gateway as I know they only have like 3 options for shoes, and I am not going to waste time even going there, and only 1 may be carbon. I honestly thought the store was closing down at one point when I went there earlier this year. Please, if you guys want to stay in the market, service needs to improve and products bring feet into your store. As a customer it would be great to have another competitor in the market and more options. In stock levels is a key focus area that we measure in the business i work in. I understand the cost of carrying stock, but as a customer, if I see that your range sucks, I will not return to your chain, and I am sure CL must have accessed the cost of a lost customer over their lifetime. It is not just R5k lost on that one sale. For these reasons I mostly support the owner managed LBS, because when I walk in there the owner gives me the attention I as a customer deserve. He will sort out my needs, and offer me a beer afterwards. I can easily spend an hour or 2 in the store even if I have just come for a tube. This feeling of community is lacking from the big chain bike stores.
  3. And what about all the other stores in the country? Before Amashova I walked into the Gateway store shopping around for wheels. The only person in the store for the 10 minutes I was there was the coffee lady. That would have been fine had I come for coffee, but I go to a coffee store for that.
  4. I totally forgot about the buyout. Hopefully service levels will improve. I will perhaps pay Cycle Lab a visit a few months in to see if there is indeed an improvement in customer service.
  5. Thats initiative should be rolled out nationally. A bit late, as they have lost my purchases forever. Being in the retail industry, I refuse to hand over cash to any business who's staff do not treat me like I pay their salary.
  6. So as a non-professional rider in events, I can purchase the R75 CSA licence once off and I am set for a year?
  7. I understood that in addition to the R75 CSA fee, you have to join a cycling club, who needs to confirm your membership with CSA in order for your annual licence to be activated. Cycle club membership fees are stupid costly.
  8. Kensington locks.
  9. I have to lug my laptop home tonight because my wife wants to watch some series that I have on it. Fortunately my laptop weighs in at 1.32 kgs. With the Targus XS backpack I dont really feel it. The extent of my backpack while commutting is a set of clean riding clothes and lunch when going to work, and the days dirty clothes going home, and laptop if neccessary.
  10. Thats why you leave them at work. So, I have settled in to the new office and have been commuting 2-3 times a week. In my desk I keep: - full set of toiletries - 2 bath towels - 2 pairs formal pants - 4 formal shirts - 2 set underwear - 1 belt - 1 pair formal shoes Means I have minimal to carry when riding in.
  11. Thanks for the feedback.
  12. My bad...but its clear in the context of the thread so far as I referred to a specific model
  13. How did you find the Bont RXL? Is it the white one with white carbon sole. A few gold accents on it.
  14. I dont think that Suplest is carbon. The carbon version is R3k. Cyclesphere mentioned a possible problem some people have been having getting parts for the Bont shoes due to a change in agents or something like that. It could be salesman babble though.
  15. I went to Cyclesphere during lunch to see their offerings. They only stock Mavis. They have the Mavic Galibier for R2450. Looks decent. They had one pair of another apparently high end (normal price R5+ supposedly) for R2700. Was a white shoe with some yellow. Looked and felt nice. Very light.
  16. I dont really want to go the online route as I want to try shoes on before buying.
  17. Budget is R2-R2.5k max. Obviously cheaper will be better, but I dont want junk. I can currently get a Bontrager RXL shoe (white with gold accents and white carbon sole) for R2,5k. Normal retail is R4k apparently. I want something that will last me a while. I am a size 8UK. The bont I fitted was a 43 and fitted nicely. Thanks in advance.
  18. Bump. Critical Mass this friday 25 October 2013. Meet at Moses Mabhida. 6pm
  19. Thanks. I will try remember this and find the place closer to the race date. What is an early start? My usual riding time is 5:30am
  20. What is the twitter ride? Sorry, I dont twit?
  21. My friend is a banker...he doesnt ride bikes. Just playing, he doesnt ride bikes, but not because he is a banker.
  22. There have been a few threads last week that have me pooping bricks. Luckily the crooks in Durban havent figured out the value of the bikes been ridden around.
  23. Staying with a friend in Fourways.
  24. Thanks. I will try make contact with someone riding in one of the groups mentioned above (hopefully via the hub) and meet them on the day. I do not want to rock up hoping to meet people, then get hopelessly lost riding around Jhb by myself and get stabbed and shot at.
  25. Tell me more
