  1. Now here's a thing. I have a Thule suspension rack. Cost about R1600. Never had a problem. My mate bought that new REALLY expensive rack from Thule (the folding one that looks really cool for R9000) and all he wants to do is swap with me because mine is so quick and easy to use!

  2. I'm amp'ed for No. 2. Only decided to do my first one this year on 24 January after a very brave dare (If I can get an entry, I'll doit!). Little did I know the guy making the dare had had a cancellation that morning! Didn't even have a bike. Ground it out for 6 weeks and managed a 4.20 including a stop for a puncture (of course). This year, and 3 bike upgrades later, I have trained right through winter (brrrr) and aiming for a 3.45 at least.

  3. Cheap is bad. They look pretty but just don't get the pressure you need and the pressure gauges are inaccurate. Rather spend a bit more (only about an extra R100) and go for a decent Giant, BBB or even the housebrand one fro Sportsmans Warehouse. All around R300 bucks.

  4. As I have been told (by a doctor) when you get sick, your heart pumps harder to help pump blood around the body quicker. When you the exert yourself through exercise this puts even more strain on your heart but the pericardium (sack around the heart) does not expand. This can lead to a condition called myocarditis and this is what can cause a heart attack.

Bottom line, take a few days off, get better and give the poor legs a break too. Muscle has amazing memory andyour fitness will come back quick enough.

Hey, even Bradley Wiggins took some time out to get better!

  5. I need some advice on options for a new road bike I would like to buy.

I am more of a MTB'er and have been riding a hardtail which I have used in the road Argus as well. Since then I have upgraded to a dual sus and the gearing 2x10 drivetrain is not really suited for road. I train on the road often aswell and would like to enter more road events.

I have been looking and found the Scott CR1 Comp very attractive.

I've looked at the 2012 Cannondale CAAD 8 Tiagra coming in at the lower end of my budget, but I think carbon frame is probably more worth it and putting in the extra $$ will save me from wanting to upgrade again later.

Other bike I looked at was the Giant TCR.

I was hoping anyone could point out a few other options they think is worth while and how they stack up to the above bikes?

I am riding a Merida Scultura Comp 904. Great value, full carbon and Shimano 105 for around the upper end of your price range. Very happy.
  6. Try this. After your run, roll a golf ball under the sole of your foot for about 8 - 10 minutes. In particular, you will find a number of pressure points. Press down on these exerting enough pressure to release stiffness and lactic acid build-up but not too much that it hurts.

This is particularly useful for shin-splints (I Googled this and it sorted me out) but then also found it worked for general stiffness and sore muscles. Cheap and easy. One or two sessions and you will be sorted.

Now can anyone help with the knot in my neck/shoulder I am getting from doing long road rides?
