Anyone care to explain why the much anticipated "Friday thread" was closed (Backing out of a deal)? I feel like every time I see that "this thread is now closed" banner, I hate this site a little more. North Korea has more freedom of speech than the forums here.

I feel like every disgruntled thread about the classifieds actually has a very similar undertone/theme. Person A expected Person B to behave in a way that would make sense in a community, but would probably not be expected on OLX or gumtree. Person B then behaves as if this is gumtree. Person A is then pissed that Person B didn't behave as expected Person B continues to behave as if this is gumtree Person A starts a thread to complain When the BikeHub overlords chose to make this a classifieds site with some forums hiding in the background, it became the same as OLX or gumtree. I'm not on Facebook, but I assume that on Marketplace you can at least see the seller's profile? The classifieds here don't require a real name or real profile or any form of validation, so it really is just OLX/Gumtree with a cycling filter. Once you realize that the community aspect of the classifieds is dead, and you just treat it like OLX, the experience becomes a lot more pleasant. What I mean by that - If I post something, I expect stupid lowball offers, I expect poor communication, I expect many "is it available" messages and then no reply after that, I expect guys to say they're keen and then disappear, etc etc. And if I'm the buyer, I don't ever assume anything is mine until I have it in my hands, regardless of what the seller has told me. I expect some sellers to disappear, I expect some deals to fall through, I don't expect a response to messages, I don't expect any common decency or special treatment or even for the other guy to be honest. I'm not buying from "a friend of a friend" in a community, I'm buying from a stranger on the internet. I really think this approach saves me a lot of heartache and stress, and saves me from the disappointment of thinking I've bought something when in fact I haven't (like in the OP's case)

Apologies for this.... Was more comparing the "new guy complaining about the classifieds" theme than the actual content of the complaints

But who is "Nicholas Captain Hans Moolman"????? The review starts be referencing him for some reason. WHY????? Is this a soap opera where characters just appear and disappear all the time? Is Nicholas Captain Hans Moolman secretly the mastermind behind this all??? It's so hard to really get into the drama of the review when the characters aren't properly introduced in the opening scenes.

For the record... Simba, I'm on your side. Wade did you dirty in my opinion. @Wade... You're definitely now on my "no touchy" list when it comes to buying/selling. But you can still redeem yourself if you can somehow explain yourself, or share your side of this debacle. But based on the whatsapp messages and your 1 post, I'm doubtful if that's possible. @ACE Cycles.. I have no clue how you're involved in this, or why Wade decided to burn you in his review of Simba... I guess you're just an innocent bystander that caught some stray bullets. Sorry man. @Matt Is it possible to remove the review of Simba from his profile? Firstly, because no deal was made so the review is unwarranted. But more importantly because it's completely incoherent and for some unknown reason is assaulting Ace Cycles.

You and @Nico van Loggerenberg should start a support group.... Nico, did you ever find a bike? (No idea why that GIF is attached to the link, but I love it) But ya, it's a crap one. I'd be pretty bleak if I was you. Naming and shaming is somewhat encouraged by the hoard though, until it's you getting shamed. But we all love a good kangaroo court where we can review the evidence, pass judgement and throw snarky comments around. Historically, this was done on Fridays and we'd all get involved in throwing our handbags at each other. To give you some hope though, I've bought loads of stuff off the classifieds and mostly dealt with some really top notch guys. There are some bad eggs I guess, but hopefully the rating system catches up to them eventually. Situations like this though are the exact reason for the Rouxtjie Rule that was mentioned in that thread about tattoos and phalluses that claims to be in some way related to some little mtb race in the western cape. (ie - don't trade with guys that aren't active in the forums)

Yeah it would have been cool to hear from them, but I also don't really care that much if they share my feedback on the race. After the next race though, I'll put terms on conditions under my feedback - "This feedback can only be shared if the author is given a high 5 and free entry to the next race"

I was never much of a fan, but then realized that maybe this is a place where function is more important than form (on the road of course, none of this applies to mtb). Anything you can do to reduce the chance of not being seen is surely worthwhile? I came to this realization after noticing that Team Sky trains in lumo kit, while us amateurs gravitate towards darker colours typically, which makes no sense. Sky was also one of the first teams I saw having their soigneurs wear lumo shirts when handing out musettes or bottles in a race. Such a basic idea, and I'm sure it makes a difference when you're trying to find your man in a crowd, and yet you still see loads and loads of soigneurs wearing black/navy and blending in. This isn't even marginal gains in my mind, it's full on gains if your riders aren't missing musettes in feed zones.
