  1. Price isn't determined by what stuff costs to make etc, its determined by supply vs demand and what people are willing to pay. Like if a make cool frame for R10, but people are willing to pay R1000 for it, I'd be stupid to sell it for R20. But that's not just cycling stuff. Thats the case with everything. Welcome to the world.
  2. @Paddavis: Don't you have a husband/boyfriend to ride with??
  3. I was looking for this earlier and couldn't find it. Thanks man.
  4. You can find "The rules of Cycling" here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/122869-the-rules-of-cycling/page__hl__rules+of+cycling Then there's the "Rules of mountain biking" : http://bikedibley.com/2012/01/20/the-rules-mountain-biking/
  5. I crucial part of mountain biking is getting involved in pointless debates on the hub. Take every chance you get to explain why 26" tires are better than 29ers, why Avid brakes suck, which tires are the best, why cleats are better than shoes, why MTB is better than road cycling, why sram is better than shimano, etc etc etc. Then tell everyone you just like riding your bike and that doing races is stupid because the trails are too crowded, and that other riders don't follow proper race etiquette, and that they're too expensive. In your free time between all that ""important"" stuff, ride your bike as much as possible, but don't take it too seriously. You're probably not gonna turn pro, so who cares if you're the fastest or the best as long as you're having fun. The easiest way to learn stuff tho is ride with people who are more experienced/better than you, and try copy them, except when they fall, cos EVERYONE falls at some point. Also... riding with a sore bum sucks, so a good cycling pant and a saddle that fits you is important, but at the same time, I usually get over the discomfort after 5 or 10 minutes, so sometimes it's necessary to just HTFU.
  6. So what wheels do you have DJ84? I'm about 67kg's, but frequently run out of talent and bulldoze into rocks and stuff. Are the ZTR crests strong enough for my ""exuberant"" riding style?
  7. Wouldn't the rolling resistance of the tire on the trail have a much bigger influence on slowing you down than the inertia of a heavy or light wheel? If I look at road bikes, they have super light wheels and don't seem to struggle with momentum. Also, inertia is good when you want to keep going, but sometimes stopping is important. Won't your brakes perform much better if they're slowing down a lighter mass? I figure I can always pedal harder to gain momentum, but there's not much you can do to loose momentum apart from braking and relying on friction. I have no experience on this though, so I'm just guessing. I'm also looking to upgrade my wheels, so any feedback would be appreciated
  8. Thanks guys. I reckon I'll be getting a fitting done sometime soon. I plan on having kids one day, so numb berries are a serious concern. Does anyone have any experience with CycleLab in Centurion?
  9. Thanks I FLY. I'll definitely keep that in mind if divernick's route doesn't work out.
  10. Thanks man. Definitely gonna give that a try when I'm back in Pretoria at the end of the month. Its a kilometer shorter than taking the highway too Do you know if there's a lot of commuters on that route?
  11. Is this question rhetorical?
  12. I bought a second hand MTB about a year ago and I'm starting to think I should go for a proper fitting. This is mostly because I sometimes get a numb and tingly feeling (like pins and needles) in my "twig and berries", but also because I want to build up a new bike and would like to know what size components to buy so that the new bike fits me perfectly. So is it worth spending R500 on a professional bike fitting? I found some websites and apps where you enter your measurements and then they tell you how to set your bike up. What makes a professional fitting better than doing it yourself with the aid of these websites and apps?
  13. Does anyone commute from Pretoria to Joberg? I live in Centurion and work in Woodmead. Would love to commute but I can't think of a safe and realistic route. Is it safe to leave your bike at the Gautrain stations overnight? Has anyone ever heard stories of bikes being stolen from a station?
  14. Thanks for the info. I'm sold.
  15. Congrats on the sweet ride man. Been considering building up a very similar bike. My only concern is the frame weight. (2.49kg seems like a lot, but I figure it might be okay on SS) What does your bike weigh altogether? And what tensioner are you going to use? Is it possible to get away with no tensioner and just chain tugs?
