  2. Good Morning all caring Hubbers!!
  3. just as well you are not Indian!!
  4. Eish, not good news at all!! Hope the cyclist is OK!!
  5. I would 'guesstimate' that R1000 as much as we can get should be sufficient. So far the kitty stands at R90. Captain Slow2009-02-17 23:03:04
  6. No closing date, but the moment we have enough funds for a nice big bunch of Flowers and a fairly large teddy bear, then we will OK. Maybe after month-end will be better that way more hubbers can contribute as it will be close to Pay day!!
  7. S2L, I have been stopped by an Ehurhuleni Officer one Saturday morning while escorting a group of cyclists on the Lido Route. He told me that what I was doing is Illegal and that cyclists don't belong on the road. Thay are categorised the same as pedestrians. This, from a Traffic Officer that should know better. Other road users do not know this fact and have the same sentiment as the cop!!! That is why we need this out in the open whereby all motorists are aware of these facts. IanJ, you know me well enough to know that I have been the one fighting for cyclists to change their behaviour and attitudes towards fellow cyclists road users for as long as I have been cycling and more so since starting Sign-Up. As you are aware, most of us are motorists ourselves and drive just as dangerous and wreckless as our non-cyclist counterparts. If you seen my interview on CNBC and I quote ' the only way we as cyclists will gain respect, is if we start respecting our fellow motorists' ' To earn respect, we have to respect others first'!! 8. Velouria, I hear you!!
  9. rawhide, you can e-mail proof to shaun@sign-up.co.za! Thanks for your contribution!!
  10. Thanks Mark!! Remember guys we are not expecting huge deposits R20-R30 per hubber will suffice!!!
  11. If only we can channel this anger and resentment towards each other more positively. S2L, why don't start a petition whereby we ask the DOT to acknowledge and to inform motorists that we as cyclists have a right to the use of the road. A simple gesture like this will ensure that motorists are now aware that we are legal road users and therefore should treat us with the respect we deserve. Com'on, lets get this petition going!!! Let's make adifference!! Let's all start doing the right thing!! As Obama says ' Yes! We can make a difference!!!'
  12. Hi All We have all read about the brutal & horrific attack on one of our fellow cyclists Matilda Barnard (https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=40189). As you are all aware, Matilda is doing much better now and is facing a long rehabilitation and thought that we needed to show her that we wish her well and that we are thinking of her. We want to raise some funds to send her a bouqet of flowers and also a teddy Bear which we will be naming 'Hubber' so that she knows that we care! To donate to these funds, click on the following link http://tinyurl.com/bxuaj6 for the deposit details and don't forget to include your Hub name and the word 'Matilda Barnard Flower Fund' and fax a copy of your deposit slip to me (Shaun) on 011 432-3882 or e-mail shaun@sign-up.co.za I would like to thank you all in advance for your support and a special word of thanks to wolfie (wolverine) who will co-ordinate the flowers & gift. 13. oh, and by the way S2L, I know my single protest will not make a difference, but is is about the principle, of which we as SA don't know much about!! Captain Slow2009-02-16 03:57:47

  15. I have appealed to all the major races to help fund my Sign-Up initiative but have nort even received a 'sorry we are not interested reply' hence the fact I don't support any races. I agree, it seems the only way to get these large races to help out is to boycott them. It will be a start!!
  16. 'It will be years before legislation and motorists minds are changed in order to protect precious lives.' As I said, it is up to us to ensure our own safety & we have to lobby to have our rights upheld!!
  17. With the recent & tragic deaths of Craig & Colin, I feel the need to stress that we, as cyclists, need to make our ride & or commute safer for ourselves. It will be years before legislation and motorists minds are changed in order to protect precious lives. WE NEED TO MAKE OURSELVES MORE VISIBLE AND STOP WORRYING WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY THINK OF OUR ATTIRE AND EQUIPMENT!!! Wear bright clothes and purchase and wear a Safety Vest. If you no not know where to purcahse a vest, please contact me. Purchase a Cateye LD1000 rear tail light. This light was specifically designed for daytime use and you will be more visible out there (Cool Heat are the ditributers of Cateye). Please guys, it's not ONLY about YOU!! What about your loved one's, Your wife, your husband, kids parents etc. STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE WILL SAY & become safer out there. May the Lord protect each & everyone of you as you ride or commute out there!! GOD BLESS!!Captain Slow2009-02-16 01:20:50
  18. Sad Sad News!!! RIP Colin!! Thoughts go out to his Family!!!
  19. Great to hear that Steve is Ok!! Speedy recovery to both Steve & Sean!!! (not sure about the cell phone no's posted on a public forum)
  20. Sorry, That one doesn't work for me. The cops do nothing, so now it is up to those who believe in it to do something drastic. I'm too old to emigrate and I think we have a beautiful country here in SA. Why should I leave? But, why should we live in fear or should that be terror? EXACTLY, just because the cops are useless does not give us the right to drive like hooligans with cellphones to our ears etc. We are not kids and don't need the cops to be our babysitters. WE JUST HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND ACT ACCORDINGLY!!!
  21. Why is it that when a person rides next to us with their cellphone to the ear, we just accept it, or when a young child is standing on the front seat without a restraining device, we find that acceptable!! Yes, we need to stand-up for what's right and what's wrong and we need to start looking at ourselves. Once we have done that, let's start making people aware that their behaviour is unacceptable. Believe me, you will be sworn at and verbally abused, but you have planted a seed. Protest rides don't work, but standing up to what's is right & wrong does!!! We are teaching our Children & Grandchildren to act like those we are quick to criticize!!
