This is what I saw on the spruit this weekend: One of SA's most famous singers walking her dog, she stopped us to have a chat about how awesome it is & to ask some questions because she just moved to the area & wants to get her bike sorted out so she can ride. A lot of guys & girls enjoying the jumps & stuff built by Hubbers so that people can have fun & learn some new skills along the spruit. Moms, Dads, kids cycling along together, doing something better than sitting in front of the TV on the weekend. Some of them even had family shirts Guys & girls of every age - Some wearing lycra, some wearing baggies - didnt really matter because 95% of them greeted us with a smile/wave/nod/hello. Two walkers with their dogs helping a cyclist whose dog had collapsed in the heat. While they sat with the dog in the shade, he went back to get his car & every cyclist that rode by, slowed down to comment on the dogs, or just to say hello. A girl who fell off one of the bridges in Delta & into the river - again, every cyclist that rode past while she sorted herself out, stopped to ask if they could help & if she was OK. I also saw a couple of hobos sleeping in the sun, and a guy that i saw beating the cr@p out of his girlfriend on the spruit a few months ago, walking his dogs with his new girlfriend.... So my point is, the spruit is just like life....you get some A-holes but we really shouldnt let them spoil something that is actually pretty cool overall. So, like the wise Mr Potgieter said - why dont we all just respect or at least accept each other's differences & just appreciate the fact that we are all "cyclists"?
