  1. But that's just it, there is no reason people cant be riding ou wa pad and silver mine, none at all. Jonkers has been up and running for months now. But we must sit like a bunch of sheep waiting till they say its okay? Same with Tokai, we were told time and time again to be patient and let things happen...nothing of significance has happened in the last few years. We had even less trails than in previous years before it burnt down. And I'm not saying its from lack of trying from tokai mtb side. Same with Cecilia, the cork trees trail would not be there if people weren't riding it, I have never seen anyone walking there. There would be no track to ask for access to. People didn't just recently start riding there when tokai brunt down, I have ridden it long before that and have even been greeted by rangers when exiting the trail. They have agreed that they want to open the trail and it should happen in due course. Why start fining people when the trail should be opened and the mtbers aren't affecting any other users? Instead of trying to speed the process up they would rather waste time and money. If I ride there and get a fine then so be it, I wont kick up a fuss and swear at them because yes I'm in the wrong but stumped if I know why because it makes no sense
  2. I'm not referring to the last few months I'm just talking in general. I don't expect anything to happen in tokai right now. Just comparing tokai and table mountain it appears things are moving there as apposed to Tokai where even before the fire not much much was happening. Well not visibility anyway. We even have less trails than what we had before
  3. Its amazing what Rob has managed to do in the time period compared to Tokai
  4. I haven't really notices any difference in the upper forest but will take a closer look today
  5. If Sanp is to be believed any riding in tokai could result in certain death ranging from land slides to falling into to pits of live coals and who knows what else
  6. I think the point Tim is trying to make is that we get treated like second class citizens time and time again. They tell you guys one thing and do something else the next. Amongst all the reasons mentioned earlier, how do any of those reasons affect silvermine, you are only allowed on the road there so no damage to flora, there is no forest to speak of there so no chance of dead trees falling on you. While I fully understand the need to properly assess the damage but to say no one will be allowed in there a minimum of 6 months is shocking when Jonkers expects to be fully up and running in that time.
  7. They're already felling the lower forest between tokai and spaansgemat rd
  8. Sanp is run from pretoria so essentially ANC run, so if ANC took over cape town again it wouldn't make any difference to the current position, moving it under CoCT could only be an improvement. At least you have direct access to the decision makers
  9. Hi Guys/gals I used to cycle from Tokai to town via Rhodes mem once a week. I want to start doing this again but with all the bike jackings going on in my area I'm not too keen on doing this alone. Would anyone else be keen on joining me I usually do as much offroad as possible so go through the greenbelts etc, pace is average although not terribly fit at the moment.
  10. Hopefully I'll be there and arrive before the beers this time
  11. Going to have to give this a go this week
  12. I think my timing was perfect, got there just as they cracked open the cooler box. Hopefully I'll get there earlier next time
  13. I only got dirt in my face because he was going so slowly I had to sit on his tail
  14. Well compared to this other guy I ride with sometimes who rides like a rampaging buffalo then you may have a point
  15. I've only dropped mine once. Sram definitely seems to work better. That and I leave my chain ring nice and dirty so the chain sticks to it
  16. Maybe its just your riding style
  17. what I learnt the other night at out meeting at Jakes, the duvel glass has a rough spot on the inside which makes a cool streams of bubbles, didnt learn much else, probably should have paid more attention
  18. Had a bit of a laugh there. They have done NOTHING to rehabilitate anything or force loggers to rahabiltate after the loggers left tokai, they will continue to let loggers pillage tokai for financial gain. There are invassive shrubs trees and bushes growing everywhere, snake eyes is like a forrest of black wottle at the bottom but we must wait for the all important EMP to be completed before doing anything and even then they might tell us we cant build trails for environemental purposes...LOL Rant over
  19. With jagwire you get a couple ferules that have a roughly 2cm rubber outer attached which slides through the lug in the frame. the plastic outer then slides over this which stops dirt etc getting into the cabling.
  20. I had the same problem on an old bike of mine. I replaced my cables with a set of jagwire cables. They come with a plastic sleeve that you cut to size which covers the exposed cable. My last cables lasted easily a year and no problems cycling through a cape town winter. http://jagwire.com/products/v/mountain_pro_shift
  21. It would have been nice if there were a few other prizes at the prize giving
  22. It looks like the SL-R is a bit faster than the HD
  23. You used live in bouberg and commute to Woodstock, no problems. Never felt unsafe and there were always guys cycling along there. Faster than going by car as well.
  24. Hi I did the full 2 years ago and thinking of doing it again next year. I bought a pair of tri shorts from atlantic triathlon club, good price. Then you would just need a top that you can swim in.
