  1. Kudos to those looking after these trails. First time I rode them was this September, on a trip up from PE. Got hopelessly lost first time out, and 2 hours turned into 4, but went back two days later to enjoy the trails again, and got less lost. Ribbok extended must be one of the finest sections of single track I have done, anywhere.
  2. Anyone knew if they make a road frame with disc brake compatibility?
  3. How much later in the year? Might be worth waiting for, even at R 7500.......
  4. Thanks, I appreciate the info
  5. We sold Vovo, effective 1 August. Now I get to make my own coffee every morning , that is when my daughter gives me a chance to make it!
  6. Its the manual - a nightmare to get the dose correctly for a single dose.
  7. I am currently using a Mazzer Super Jolly for home use, which is overkill combined with a lot of wasted beans. Who can recommend a good home grinder at a reasonable price? I had a Mahlkonigg Vario, but it didn't last. Being electronic, it was too expensive to repair, hence the spare shop grinder being used at home.
  8. Awesome! Hoping for a better route.....!
  9. Only saw your post now.....I've entered again....pain already forgotten!!! "only " 2 ks....but all uphill, stop start stuff...sandy...frustrating!
  10. I won't be able to do the race. I have booked accomodation for Friday and Saturday nights for 4 people, I also have restaurant reservations I will have to cancel. If anyone is interested please give me a call. 083 400 3838 https://www.booking.com/hotel/za/prince-albert-country-stay.en-gb.html?label=gen173nr-1FCAso-wFCGnByaW5jZS1hbGJlcnQtY291bnRyeS1zdGF5SDNiBW5vcmVmaPsBiAEBmAEuuAEHyAEN2AEB6AEB-AEDkgIBeagCAw;sid=877d6e08a383da50d9ccc152e11b4f6b;dcid=4;dist=0&from_pretrip=1&sb_price_type=total&type=tota
  11. I think that if you can handle technical climbs with a 32, this race with gravel climbs should be fine on a 34. On the other hand, with 160/2800 I can't see anyone but the pros setting off at race pace, so maybe a 32 will be fine anyway. I'm thinking the race must be a bit easier than the Atta which has similar climbing, pushing on 5 hills (for me). The extra 40 ks can't be too much of an issue with it being on easier riding terrain.
  12. The following are the current 2016 prices, ex-works Cape Town, incl. VAT: Capra Pro Race: R103,500.00 Capra CF Pro: R93,500.00 *Capra CF Comp: R78,900.00 *Capra AL Comp 1: R58,000.00 *Capra AL Comp 2: R59,000.00 *Capra AL: R49,900.00 The bikes with the * in front are in stock, in Cape Town, ready to be sent to the prospective buyer. The Pro models are arriving, in Cape Town, in the next container in May.
  13. 93 clicks on tar? Anything in the rules about swapping bikes before the Swartberg descent?? Lol!
  14. 160kms 2800 climbing, what do you guys reckon the winning time will be ? I'm hoping I can do it in under 6 hours, seeing it's all rideable, and the pros are normally 2 hours quicker than me in endurance events. sub 4 unrealistic?
  15. Myles has advised me that Ikons will be good enough for the job! I might still have some small block 8's hiding in the garage somewhere though.
  16. Planning on doing it on my hardtail. What tyres will give the least rolling resistance ?
  17. I spoke to her on the route and asked her if this was the worst and toughest route ever ( I damn well thought so and was basically trying to force her to agree with my opinion!!), but she was very sweet and polite and told me that she just absolutely loves technical climbing so this one was right up her alley!! I also asked the same of Mike ( also with a 12 on his number), en route too and he told me no way, some of the long dirt roadie Knysna ones were worse!! I have no plans to mountain bike in Tulbagh again, however
  18. wI agree the scenery was amazing. Please understand I am not complaining about the many rideable 18-20% gradient climbs. Those are expected and completely normal for Epic. I don't like the fact that there were far too many climbs, which I am sure were unrideable for 95% of participants.
  19. The organizers got the route badly wrong this year, in my opinion. To pay what we did to push our bikes around what passes for mountain bike routes in Tulbagh, was an absolute disgrace. In the unlikely event that I shell out what must have added up to 100k ( entry, accom upgrade, bike mechanic, spare, services, flights and accom for family, etc) to do this race again, I will first wait for the route to be advertised. I loved the 2014 route, this was nothing like it.
  20. will have to check it out next week when I' m down! Sounds good!
  21. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2014 Prologue at Meerendal....first time I'd ridden it.
  22. I don't think the distance or climbing needed attention, but it may be sensible for those doing Epic. The senseless portage and copious dirt road riding is what spoiled last year's event for me. The bike park on day 2 is a welcome addition. I think the changes will be good!
  23. a drop of sunlight liquid into water, cheapest way to practise making microfoam.
  24. We did the race last year and it won't let me enter, saying public entries open in March. I bought the entry on the Hub, for last year.
