  1. The cassette won't be the limiting factor. The real question to ask is if your frame can accommodate a ring that size without buggering up the chain line and if you can find a chain long enough. So to answer your question - Yes, you can use a 50t chainring on that cassette
  2. To me it looks like the whole area around the rear shock and BB will easily gather dust and more importantly mud? This might results in the build up of mud when riding in those conditions that will again result in damage to the shock itself as well as the need to frequently replace bearings in the surrounding area. It might even restrict the suspension movement. The "moving BB" will also mean that your saddle hight (From seat to BB) will change throughout your ride, especially when pedaling resulting in discomfort or even future knee problems. I didn't really do any research on this, but that's just my take on it.
  3. My machine custom build on a 9.9 RSL frame
  4. I've been riding Icons for a while now, really great tyres, they just don't last very long on tar... Not nearly as long as the Crossmarks do
  5. Hi everyone. So I have a Trek Top Fuel frame. The frame is equiped with a Rockshox Monarch and does not use the current Trinion mounted shocks. The mounting hardware I currently have is not the correct set. After properly installing the shock to the frame there is still about 1.3mm of play between the shock and the frame/spacers. I have measured everything. The dimensions are 25 .4 x 8mm I bought a set like this and is still doesn't work. Does anyone know what the exact measurements of the spacers are? OR is anyone willing to remove their shock, measure the size of the spacers and let me know what they are? If so I will be extremely grateful! Thanks Wian Smith
  6. It used to be a danger area for all kinds of activities (3-5 years back) but quite recently I've been there with my MTB and was absolutely stunned by the amount of people there. Hikers and runners dominated but there were a few cyclists as well. There hasn't been any reports of attacks or robberies in a while BUT it still is South Africa so don't go riding alone. Anyways, awesome trails! Just be aware of what's happening around you and stay safe.
  7. Hi Hubbers! If any of you are currently trying to decide on a new bike to buy or are even looking at buying carbon wheels.I believe this will make the decision a bit easier. During one of my recent rides at Paul Cluver my front wheel punctured resulting in me discovering that the sealant in my tyres had dried up. I put a tube into the wheel to get me home, but during a quite steep single track climb the tube punctured again, resulting in a wheel that was slowly deflating. I decided to ride to the top of the hill as the tyre still had some air in it and that I would put minimum pressure on the front end of the bike - steep climb and I was sitting to the rear end of my saddle. It was about 200m on a quite smooth trail. Anyways, with my wheel being completely pap I decided to use the opportunity to inspect my carbon rims(Bontrager Kovee elite 23) Apon inspection I discovered a crack in the rim resulting in slight delamination between 2 layer of the carbon. I was really devistad , I tried to tell myself that it was okay because the wheel was still true and all, but honestly it sucked! This lead me to discover the wonders of the Trek warranty program! In short, If you have the original proof of purchase, Trek will repair or replace your wheel if you seem to have damaged in within the FIRST TWO YEARS of ownership.I know right? Two full years on carbon components?? I tested the system and within 3 days Trek sent me not only a brand new rim, but they sent me the 2019 version and upgraded me to the next model -Kovee elite 30 . NO QUESTIONS ASKED! I was, and still am really impressed with the confidence of the Trek warranty system and also in the way that they stick to their words. It could have been easy to say that I should have pushed the bike instead of ride it or that they can't help be because I rebuild the rim onto other hubs, but no. That's what I call customer service! Thanks Trek!
  8. As far as I know this is the only brand that has a bike like this on offer in SA? I've never seen one in a shop so for someone looking for a bike to do endurance events or long commutes or even some propper training on I believe that this bike is perfect... Sure, many guys have built bikes similar to this one but they had to build it themselves, none of them walked into a shop and bought one. For the people who does not have access to all the tools, knowledge or time I really think this bike is one to consider! Well done guys, keep it up!
  9. Being someone that competed in this exact series I can see why homeschoolers aren't welcome. The competition between schools are extremely high and some schools go very far to secure overall top positions. Some of them even too far... Athletes have nothing to "gain" from winning on of these races, not even from winning the series. There are no "scouts" for professional teams, no "national colours" or any other sort of idividual prize to be won.Only schools can "brag" by saying they have the strongest MTB team. If your daughter wants to cycle competitively just take her to the SAcup series, USN cup series, Trailseekers or even the XCOcup series at the Voortrekker Monument. For a school to recieve the points earned by a person that isn't in the school isn't fair.If that was/is allowed then any school can pay or ask any young, talented and fast kid from and other province to come ride for them. This will result in just another series.NOT a school series.

  12. Not sure if I'm seeing it right, but I think you'll have trouble with the shock itself and the toptube when compressed?
  13. My pride and joy (not brand new, but still new)

  21. I picked up a Garmin on the route during Saturday's event at Van Gaalens. If you can identify it, we can make a plan to get it back to you. I need the details of the Garmin and the rider profile (weiht, height and age) loaded onto the device
