  1. I know it might be a tad early but I am looking for 2 individual entries (via Substitution) for the 2016 Argus Cycletour. Please PM me here or mail: torsten@mwebbiz.co.za Thanks!
  2. Wow, that is seriously weird?
  3. Thanks, will be great to see what others report? Are you sure just 50? I think guys were clocking into the low 80"s....
  4. Hi there I have searched but can't find this: Can anyone (with Strava), tell me the total climbing for the 94.7 and perhaps the Argus? Thanks
  5. No Goodie Bags, wonder why? Plus I had to go back and ask for my juice bottle after seeing the rest of the citizenry clutching theirs....
  6. .............After sitting on the fence as to whether or not to ride on Sunday, I am "IN" and collected my number etc......I have done almost no training and nothing for a few weeks.....so I will have to hit the Cradle tomorrow and do my Base Miles, Speed Work and then Taper Down.......all in one!
  7. Might be so, but they are not ALL useable kj.... http://breakingmuscle.com/health-medicine/understanding-glycolysis-what-it-is-and-how-to-feed-it Glycolysis is the breakdown of carbohydrates. It lasts from roughly ten seconds into physical activity up to about two to three minutes. The energy for glycolysis comes from glucose, or our stored form of glucose - glycogen. Glycogen is stored in muscle tissue and the liver, and the average person holds about 1,500-2,000 calories of stored glycogen. Broken down there are about 100g of glycogen in the liver and upwards of 400g of stored glycogen in muscle tissue I think that in simple terms if you go near or above your lactate threshold you need to ingest glycogen/glucose in some form. There will be a medical expert here somewhere... Also, check this out as to what a TDF rider needs to eat and drink... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/recreational-cycling/11729780/6000-calories-What-a-Tour-de-France-rider-eats-in-just-one-day.html
  8. Not arguing but for 3,500 cal for a race, that equated to 14,600 kj.....Just saying....
  9. Or burn twice as many calories to complete in the same time as those who are half the weight....?
  10. On Sunday I was on a 65km training ride, after my oats breakfast and 35km under the pedals I felt a bit like going home.....instead of jelly babies I tried a PVM energy bar and big difference...maybe placebo effect but it worked.
  11. This sounds about right. When I used to use a HRM that measured calories it said around 3,500 for a race. I guess one has some cal in storage too?
  12. Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, if so please point me there. My question is, how the heck do I consume enough carbs to fuel this? By my reckoning for a reasonable 94.7 and Argus I need around 3,500 to 4,000 calories to go the distance. That is for a 4 hour time, I weigh around 110kg and ride a roadbike (yip, you may thrash me on the climbs but only a tandem outguns me on a descent lol! I was starting on a Jungle Oats breakfast and eating bananas and jellibabies and the odd goo on the bike and drinking Cytomax x 2 bottles and then when my juice runs out usually 1 of whatever the drink stations serve. As an aside for the new 720ml drinks bottles at Cyclelab that makes it 198 Calories per bottle of Cytomax? I tend to run out of bang on the N14 (old route) of the 94.7, and this might be due to the fact that I am not ingesting enough (of the right) carbs? Input and checking of my maths appreciated!
  13. Sorry Little Fish and others. After hanging in there for a year we decided for sanity and depleted bank balance sake to throw in the towel. The positive news is that I am back on my bike for the first time in 2 years - ouch!
  14. Hi all. An afternoon tea hosted by Sally-Ann Creed. A great event to consider. Please read booking instructions carefully. Look forward to having you over.
