  1. I know it might be a tad early but I am looking for 2 individual entries (via Substitution) for the 2016 Argus Cycletour. Please PM me here or mail: torsten@mwebbiz.co.za Thanks!
  2. Wow, that is seriously weird?
  3. Thanks, will be great to see what others report? Are you sure just 50? I think guys were clocking into the low 80"s....
  4. Hi there I have searched but can't find this: Can anyone (with Strava), tell me the total climbing for the 94.7 and perhaps the Argus? Thanks
  5. No Goodie Bags, wonder why? Plus I had to go back and ask for my juice bottle after seeing the rest of the citizenry clutching theirs....
  6. .............After sitting on the fence as to whether or not to ride on Sunday, I am "IN" and collected my number etc......I have done almost no training and nothing for a few weeks.....so I will have to hit the Cradle tomorrow and do my Base Miles, Speed Work and then Taper Down.......all in one!
  7. Might be so, but they are not ALL useable kj.... http://breakingmuscle.com/health-medicine/understanding-glycolysis-what-it-is-and-how-to-feed-it Glycolysis is the breakdown of carbohydrates. It lasts from roughly ten seconds into physical activity up to about two to three minutes. The energy for glycolysis comes from glucose, or our stored form of glucose - glycogen. Glycogen is stored in muscle tissue and the liver, and the average person holds about 1,500-2,000 calories of stored glycogen. Broken down there are about 100g of glycogen in the liver and upwards of 400g of stored glycogen in muscle tissue I think that in simple terms if you go near or above your lactate threshold you need to ingest glycogen/glucose in some form. There will be a medical expert here somewhere... Also, check this out as to what a TDF rider needs to eat and drink... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/recreational-cycling/11729780/6000-calories-What-a-Tour-de-France-rider-eats-in-just-one-day.html
  8. Not arguing but for 3,500 cal for a race, that equated to 14,600 kj.....Just saying....
  9. Or burn twice as many calories to complete in the same time as those who are half the weight....?
  10. On Sunday I was on a 65km training ride, after my oats breakfast and 35km under the pedals I felt a bit like going home.....instead of jelly babies I tried a PVM energy bar and big difference...maybe placebo effect but it worked.
  11. This sounds about right. When I used to use a HRM that measured calories it said around 3,500 for a race. I guess one has some cal in storage too?
  12. Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, if so please point me there. My question is, how the heck do I consume enough carbs to fuel this? By my reckoning for a reasonable 94.7 and Argus I need around 3,500 to 4,000 calories to go the distance. That is for a 4 hour time, I weigh around 110kg and ride a roadbike (yip, you may thrash me on the climbs but only a tandem outguns me on a descent lol! I was starting on a Jungle Oats breakfast and eating bananas and jellibabies and the odd goo on the bike and drinking Cytomax x 2 bottles and then when my juice runs out usually 1 of whatever the drink stations serve. As an aside for the new 720ml drinks bottles at Cyclelab that makes it 198 Calories per bottle of Cytomax? I tend to run out of bang on the N14 (old route) of the 94.7, and this might be due to the fact that I am not ingesting enough (of the right) carbs? Input and checking of my maths appreciated!
  13. Sorry Little Fish and others. After hanging in there for a year we decided for sanity and depleted bank balance sake to throw in the towel. The positive news is that I am back on my bike for the first time in 2 years - ouch!
  14. Hi all. An afternoon tea hosted by Sally-Ann Creed. A great event to consider. Please read booking instructions carefully. Look forward to having you over.
  15. Hi Hubbers Just to let you know that we have just opened a new coffee shop (Ziggies Caffe', named after my late Mom) in Blairgowrie, at the Blairgowrie Plaza Shopping Centre, cnr Conrad & Susman Avenue. Our overall theme is European with a German slant, but unfranchised and owner-managed. We do great coffee from 07:00, breakfasts, salads, burgers (home made!), have a great selection of Artisan breads, cakes and tarts....But most of all I am a Hubber too and as I have agreed to park my wheels for at least two years, you guys will be welcomed with open arms! (Bike stand will be built soon)! Regards Torsten (011)781 3756
  16. Incorrect. The headache came from sitting at dinner a long long time (happens often), legs were just sore from expo etc....... The more I think about it it could be the culmination of a long drive down, lack of sleep before and on arrival and 2 latish nights to try get sleep going..........The day after the race I could have pedalled my Polo up Du Toits Pass.........On the day I was a baby..........Hope the 94.7 goes better.......
  17. Now that is both interesting AND worrying............will try Paracetomol if there is a next time....
  18. Thanks to all for your replies............I am thinking it was an off day. I did feel a bit cold at the start even though I had arm warmers........I had a throw away bottle but wasn't majorly thirsty and had only 100ml or so. I did start drinking early......as I said, for 2 days prior my legs were sore like when you have been standing long..........Yesterday I could have ridden the wheels off......I think I did too little in the last 2 weeks.........twice I have ridden better on the second day...........Maybe next year I will train right up to the last day (Maybe lol). Thanks again!
  19. I drove down Thursday.................Off day could be it as had achy legs 2 days before.you know the urge to keep putting feet on table..............and I was helluva well rested, almost too much rest.wondering about the Aspirin.........
  20. Thanks guys, I dunno............I rode 130km in the Cradle 4 weeks ago but in my last 2km could still climb from Lions side up to Kloofzicht on big chainring yet on Sunday I def. had an off day...........

    Argus 2014

I started in DD group and as I was reaching top of Smitties I was blocked by a slower guy (from I think Z group which started ahead of me) chatting to his mate on his left (ignoring the "keep left, pass right" rule, which is maybe unwritten but should be commion sense???). I was trying to pass him on his right AND coming under pressure from guys trying to pass me, so I politely (in years gone bye I have yelled!) said "Please keep left".he ignored me so I said it louder, and when he moved I politely said "Thank you"......he seemed to not like this and sped up to chirp me that at our level time doesn't matter etc........ What do you giuys think? I think I was in the right as no matter what my start, I am chasing my own time, not to mention the safety aspect as there were plenty guys coming through due to them being faster than their start times..........
  22. I just got back from Argus and have been mulling........ I had a bad neck injury 15 years ago and occasionally get headaches from the back of my neck into my head (often if I sit at a table, head back). Nothing other than posture related and they very seldom occur. Two nights before Argus I took 2 Extra Strength Disprins and again the night before......due to such headaches. Reason for my post is that (even considering the wind), I rode a shitty Argus when I compare to my training rides, especially climbing............I am a big guy but have ridden any climb out at the Cradle on (Roadbike) 53 chainring front and around 24 on the rear, and can repeatedly do this, yet in the Argus I was soon reaching for my 39T front and 2nd at the back, (25T)..........I just felt on the back foot the entire day and was hoping someone could shed some light............the next day I felt I could have ridden better than on the day, despite slightly sore thighs..... Anyone?
  23. I like to park at Something Country as can stash extra bottles in car and park outside, plus Rhino and Lion Park (Neck and Deck) have a cold water dispenser (secret blown lol). I'll pop you a PM with my details. Plan to get to Something Country at around 06:00 or whatever suits....?
  24. Feel like hooking up for the 130? O usually ride from Something Country.....
