  1. I get what you're saying, but the main e-bike benefit in my opinion is that it enables riders of different fitness levels to ride together. My wife is not nearly as fit as I am so when we ride together I hardly break a sweat and have to constantly wait for her. If she was on an e-bike she would be able to keep up with me much easier.
  2. My wife is an average rider looking to upgrade from a hardtail to a dualsus e-MTB. Currently looking at the Giant Embolden E +2 at around R80k. Are there any other bikes she should consider or does anyone have any opinions on the Giant? Thanks
  3. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of the HR sensor on the F7 or Epix during HIT or Crossfit sessions? I still have a F5x and while the sensor is fairly accurate for running or cycling, for some reason it is way off for HIT and Crossfit. At times during a workout when I know for a fact my HR is around 160 / 170, the F5x has it at 90 or 100. When using the chest strap I don't have the issue. Would like to get the Epix, but not if it's going to have the same issue.
  4. How much of an issue is wet feet & shoes for the rest of the race after walking langwater? I guess you can at least put on some dry socks at CP4. I heard some people actually walked it barefoot.
  5. Does anyone know of someone offering vehicle transfers from start to finish for the repeat?
  6. Hi, I'm looking for transport from Wilderness / George to Uniondale the morning of K2C for 2 guys and their bikes. Can anyone help? Thanks.
  7. Go test ride each of them and buy the one that feels best. That's what I did and ended up liking the feel of the Scott more than Giant.
  8. Who? Me? Go read my post again. I was not complaining. Oh, and I do run as well and running events are no different.
  9. In my opinion they can keep the T-Shirts (poor quality) and many of the other items in the goodie bag and rather drop the entry fee a bit. Saying that, it is still a bargain compared to the ridiculous fees one pays for races like W2W.
  10. I'm in, but this is mostly just a warm-up for the Origin of Trails.
  11. Yes I heard these rumours but it sounds like this was only an issue with much older bikes. The recent models have no more issues with cracked frames than any other brands.
  12. I was recently in the same boat and had the opportunity to demo both the Giant and the Scott 930 for a few days. The Giant is a great bike and made sense on paper. There was just something about the Scott - I enjoyed it a lot more. Prefered the ride position, it handled better and it climbed a lot better than the Giant, I mean a lot! Just finished the Karoo2Coast on the Scott and I could not be more happy with my purchase. One of my riding buddies bought one as well and also loves it. If you can, go ride both and decide. It would be foolish to make such an important purchase without trying a few bikes first. I thought there was a big difference between the two and prefered the Scott by far.
  13. Only the 27.5. Giant did not have a 29er demo to loan me. Their loss. Enjoying the Scott so far, so happy with my purchase.
  14. Ok, I spent half of yesterday on a demo Anthem Carbon 650b and over the last few weeks also tried a friend's Scott Spark 930 on several occasions. From all my research and comments, the Giant was the bike to get, but, and I will probably get crucified for saying this, I prefer the Scott. In my experience it rolls better, climbs a lot easier, handles better and it's faster. On trails and XC. The climbing especially was very noticable. For almost the same price, the Giant has slightly better components and it's a great bike. I just enjoyed the Scott a lot more, and that's what mountain biking is all about for me. Thanks for all the comments.
