  1. Awsome, thanks Marc...
  2. Shot MadMarc, I think this will be my next move... Can you recommend a good weight of engine oil to start off with?
  3. Thanks, I will def do that!
  4. to me it makes sense that motorbike oil would be just as good for mtb's... I only like long finger gloves, even at the local moto bike shop their gloves as half the price of MTB gloves and move padding on the palms of your hands... I agree with the new golf statement above... Lots of interesting different opinions on here regarding the oil to use, will have to experiment around and see what works best. I use a chain cleaning tool and clean chain often, along with my bike to keep everything clean. Also like to rebuild it often to re apply grease, check bearings etc... Just need a new supply of oil which doesnt cost an arm and a leg...
  5. Thanks again everyone... Tried on some shoes and ended up getting these... the 2014 Specialized MTB Comp... Not a carbon sole but a very hard plastic sole. I tried on the 2013 version of the same shoe and the widest part of my front foot was very compacted into the shoe... Then tried on the 2014 version and it fit very nicely all around my foot... much better than my old shoes, not just have to use them to see how they are Thanks again hope this helps someone else
  6. Shot, did search "lube" however came up with nothing... Interesting read though... what lube do you use?
  7. Hi guys, So been using White Lightning lube for a long time now however its now R 140 last night when I bought... granted it lasts fairly long its just crazy price for lube? Use to use Squirt before white lightning but its too thick as well as the fine dust in the cane fields it turns into paste that chows you components. . . . Keen to hear your thoughts...
  8. Thanks for the input guys... Will have to go and try on some shoes and see which fit the best...
  9. Shot guys!! I hear what you are saying, each to their own... Always good to get feedback though. The price range I would say 1000-1500 ish? most expensive shoes I had bought for MTB... I heard the carbon great for transferring most of the power to the stroke, however a nightmare to walk you bike over portage sections with rocks...
  10. You could always get her a new bike to fit the mount... :whistling: :whistling: hahaha Good luck
  11. even these entry level range or shoes?
  12. Meant in a supportive way! I had the same thing about a year and a half ago and it made a huge change for me... Welcome back..
  13. have you cycled yet today???? GOT ON IT>>>
  14. Hi Hubbers... Looking at getting a new pair or shoes this weekend and not sure what to buy.. what can you recommend and why? I am looking at these? Specialized MTB Sport.... http://www.specialized.com/za/en/ftr/shoes/mtb-shoes/sport-mtb Otherwise had the Deadora (Not sure on model but not too expensive) before, about 4 years old now and the soles are a bit too flexible now and soft... also they have also always made my front part of the foot go numb sometimes..... Anywho looking forward to the feedback. Kind Regards, Tim
  15. Has it been confirmed that he had been found?
  16. couldnt find that exact app so got one called Gear Calc... Are you sure about the spelling???
  17. hahaha you know you are training hard if you want to puke... never a bad thing hahahahaha
  18. Glutmine after any hectic work out will help prevent this.... Also a slow spinning session to get the legs moving help break down that stiffness... But Glutmine works like a bomb...
  19. This is spot on and how the word gets around... However someone said earlier regarding education, perhaps very key here. Joe and Phil and Bill is like comparing an open wheel race car driver to an F1 racer... Put an open wheel out there in an F1 race and they would get lapped all day long and probably hate it.... I missed the first KZN XCO due to being sick all of December and not being able to train but fully plan on attending the remaining races, probably far off the pace to win however I am keen on this format of racing and want to build that experience... I have done plenty of weekend races, generally done very well in standings.. however I fully anticipate I am going to get my ass handed to me on the first XCO race. If you going to do a XCO race you need to be in it to win it as that is the race format, fast pace sprinting type of racing with loads of technical in it... Most people didnt get into mtb for this type of racing and I suspect it will be a great format for school racing though. I do wish more would do the XCO racing
  20. Hi Guys, Again thanks for all the input, a few things certainly got the old thinker going!!! My rims are: Roval 29, alloy disc, 26mm wide, 32h and Tires are: Front: S-Works Fast Trak, 2Bliss Ready, 29x2.0", foldable aramid bead, 120 TPI Back: Specialized Fast Trak Control, 2Bliss Ready, 29x2.0", foldable aramid bead, 60 TPI Everything Tubeless Ready. What are UST? I know when I was changing tubes left right and center because of thorns (which is why I went tubeless in the first place) I needed to use some soapy water to get the bead to sit in nicely... I have not had issues, knock on wood, but asked the questions as until this weekend and it happening to this lady I was not even thinking of that problem... so now I have an idea of how to solve it... I do think the problem with her tire was it was too low on air and thus burped easily... From my understanding its also very important to check pressures very regularly before riding to ensure its all setup properly.
  21. The rope idea is a very good one...!! I don't really have room for a spare tube now on the bike and dont like to tape it to the bike... A. its carbon and duck tape makes it look ugly. B. if you don't use it in a long time the tube perishes anyways. HOWEVER this being said doing a long race you will need to take a tube with to be prepared... I am mainly doing the XCO provincial races, and then shorter 40-50km races... I am also not running super low pressures, keeping it around 1.8 bar and is working good for me.
  22. haha!! Thanks guys... Just been reading some other tubeless threads... Tubeless seems like a mission, glad my LBS did my first conversion for me, will need to learn though!! Hope everyone has some good riding this week!! Cheers
  23. Hi Everyone, Hope you can shed some light on this for me. I recently converted to Tubeless on my 2014 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp (Carbon) which is all stock standard. However over the weekend was riding with a group and someones tubeless tired had burped when she hit a big water pipe in the sugar cane which fully deflated her tired and the bead came off the side wall. I wasn't there at first but they tried to bomb it and inflate tire but could not reseal it to the rim and was forced to put a tube in. Is there a special tricks to when that happens to get it sealed back up or is the only way to put a tube in? Kind Regards, Tim
