  1. When do 'they' charge import tax/any other levy when receiving a parcel from oversees? I have a relative in Europe. Want him to send me some cycling-related stuff. If he sends me a 'present', will I have to pay import tax? Any other levies applicable? Thanks for the info.
  2. I personally do not think any mtb'er wants to see a race cancelled/"destroyed" - there already are only a few available. Yesterday was my third Babba's - and by far the most difficult due to all the sand. You could never push yourself on the straights and downhills, the sand and "trenches" from all the rain made it just too dangerous. My opinion - the organizers should remember such an event has a lot to do with 'consumerism'. The riders want to consume proper drinks and food afterwards. That includes the spectators also. Anyway, my bit
  3. Ja ek hoor jou. . Did the 30 (supposed 35). Came off the bike a few times . . Eina! Also wanted a cooldrink at the finish - did not expect to have it served in a cup. My concern is the sand on the downhill sections - very dangerous. A guy came off at speed in front of me. Looked like a broken clavicle. Also R130 is becoming bit too much for a 30km
  4. Entries are from 6am
  5. I stand to be corrected - The 70 starts normally @ 8am. The 35 around 10min later, and the rest so on.
  6. Solomons also stock them. Perhaps get details from them
  7. Hi to all This question is for the guys riding Craft. I bought my first Craft Performance bib today. I have previously used Vermarc - but they are now out of my price range. Anyway, upon trying on the Craft I can't help but to notice the difference in the height of the padding on the front compared to vermarc. Should the padding come up so low? And, the material used seems to be somewhat hard. Should the bib be washed before being used the first time? Thanks for the opinion
  8. 'Physical address' in Bryanston, Jo'burg (without specific street number) and landline in Durban? Maybe...
  9. Now that is seriously stupid. At 62 . . What a cracker
  10. I haven't spoken to Clive yet about possibly taking it over. It would be best to discuss it with him. At this stage I am only thinking out loud. The area here needs a mtb race (other than Hakahana, van Gaalen and Redstone) Thanks
  11. @Talus (apologies - running the forum from my phone..) Well, firstly, I want to ride it. Then, maybe resurrect the event. I am on a property close by where the race was held. I am trying to build a singletrack that will link-up to the voriberg route. Do any one know if a particular route/race belong to someone (i.e registered in a person's name/own the rights..)
  12. Where can I find a printable map for the VoriBerg route? Thanks
  13. Unfortunately the roads in Pretoria are some of the worst to be training on. The only answer is MTB - stay away from the tar. Here are a few mtb trails (hazeldean/tijgerpoort east of pta, voriberg north of pretoria, hakahana west of pta). Just not safe on tar anywhere in SA - taxis, muggings, jackings. Wherever you do go, will be best if you ride in a group.
  14. Wow, some guys are really touchy. I fail to see how this guy's post threatens any one's existence. Then, roadies are full of it...
  15. Little further away is Cyclelab in Lynnwood (at the LynnBridge Mall). The manager has the place in lockdown so tight is his hand on the shop
  16. Yeah, nutrition is definitely a factor. Experience low sugar at times. I use gels every 35-40min with plenty of water. Unfortunately can't stomach the isotonic drinks. Eating on the ride is difficult - riding one handed on singletrack/farm roads is looking for trouble... I have been riding for 3 years now - only started doing races this year. My normal training distances are 30-55km (1h30 to 2h30). Even in training 50 plus is a killer. I started to do more high intensity interval rides which has made a difference - albeit only for short burst of speed. But carrying that speed/endurance for long periods is a problem
  17. How do I increase muscle endurance? I can do a good 30-40km ride/race, but I get killed when going more than that. I just feel 'pap', no power, no lungs. I have a home gym with free weights and an elliptical cross-trainer. Is spinning the only answer to increase aerobic fitness? I am currently focussing on crosstraining as much as my time and resources allows me. Guidance will be appreciated. Thanks
  18. Excellent, thanks guys. I will have a look later on. I have to remove the front wheel when transporting - bike rack is part of the 101 stuff to get for the bike.
  19. How do I adjust my Shimano SLX front brake on my mtb? The brake pad catches the disc very slightly - the wheel doesn't want to turn freely. Also, there is a funny squealling sound coming from the front axle. What could that be? Thanks in advance for the advise/input. Much appreciated
  20. G'day all I am fairly new to mtb - middle-of-the-pack rider, average built. Are there any mtb groups in Pta North that I could join? Preferably going west from Akasia out to Harties / Brits... Or someone that needs a training buddy? I would like to join a group or start something. Thanks
  21. Ja, I have picked up on the "spend R1000, get free shipping" My concern is for the postage/handling of smaller orders. If something is R450 online vs R580 at the LBS (if they ever have stock!), would online still be the best deal? (P.S wish I could be at Cyclelab Mega's opening on Thursday, but have to work...)
  22. Hi to the experienced I am a novice online shopper - have to out of necessity. Can't find what I need elsewhere What are the costs involved (other than the product) when ordering online? What are the typical cost to have a small order delivered to Pretoria? And BuyCycle's costs? Appreciate everyone's experienced opinion. Thanks
  23. Appreciated. I am looking for something that has decent knobs for the front for cornering. I came off the bike pretty hard two weeks back when the front slid on a thin layer sand on compact soil. Does anyone have an experience with the maxxis larsen?
  24. Hi all I know this has probably been discussed countless times before, but here goes.. I am relatively new to cycling - have a hand-me-down full sus with deore xt rims. What tyres are best for sand-on-hard surface and plenty prickly-stuff (sekelbos/akasia thorns). I currently run Rubena Scylla rear, and Monorail front. Monorail have to be replaced soon. Any suggestions for R400 - R550? Should the Scylla go front? Thanks
  25. It would be a brilliant concept. But I believe it could lead to increased riding fees as there would are then a number of parties to be paid. Increased fees could chase away the very source of your income
