  1. Hey Guys and Gals I joined the Tygerberg Club more than a year ago when there were less than 200 members. The club was only active in route development and maintenance in the Majik Forest. Well one year on the Club membership has grown to 1000 members and almost 65km of routes in the Durbanville area. It is through the huge efforts of Adrian Windsor, James Thornhill-Fischer and Braam that the club was able to develop the new routes. They are constantly negotiating with the various land owners in the area looking new routes and land on which they can add new single track. So far they have developed routes on Natida, Hillcreast, Kliprug, associated routes with Contermans Kloof, Meerendal and the Green corridor linking Contermans into Meerendal. The best thing about these routes is that they all link up and you have to cross less than 100m of tar in order to ride all the routes. The various routes have all sorts of different enjoyment factors and skill level allowance. The routes are classified as yellow, green or red. Contermans Kloof has a black section in it, I saw a Guy break his helmet in half there. The routes incorporate loads of amazing single track with switch backs that make you think twice. There are lots of cross over A frame bridges, normal bridges, a seesaw and yes guys loads and loads of hills to climb. If you are looking for flat riding go home if you are looking for fun and some pain then enjoy the routes. Saying this, the routes at Meerendal wine farm make allowance for all skill levels with few climbs and mostly flat single track. The novice rider will not walk away despondent after riding the trails here. There is one route at Meerendal that is for the mountain goats, it takes you to one of the highest points in the area with amazing views from the top and a long flowing single track back down to the red route. The club uses the funds it generates from the membership fees to pay for new route development and the building of the single track. They have a well trained team of Zimbos that cut the track into the hill side and built berms that Muerant of Dirtopia fame would be proud of. The Club also offers a skills training slow coach ride on Sunday mornings for the newbie’s to MTBing. This is normally held at Meerendal. You can go to the facebook page Tygerberg MTB FACEBOOK for more info. The club also host regular Thursday night rides with the local land owner’s permission. These rides are fun but not for the slower riders. Saying this, their motto is, "leave no one behind". What I have been trying to say with this post is that the Tygerberg MTB club is an awesome group of guys who strive to continually develop the sport and more routes. Check out the clubs website for more info and membership.Club website Well done guys and thanks for allowing me to ride the awesome trails you have developed.
  2. Buy a Morewood Zula frame and build it up with your old components and then replace the components bit by bit as the cash flow allows. I am loving the ride comfort the Zula gives. Oh yes it also climbs like a demon on steroids. Morewodd all the way and as they say local is lekker.
  3. I bought one of these for my wife. She is a newbie to MTBing as is very happy with it so far. In its price range it knocks the sox of the other brands out there. Oh yes I got her a Silverback and she got me a Morewood Zula frame.
  4. On Sunday I will be riding most of the Tygerberg MTB clubs routes. This includes about 60km of route with only 30m of tar, yes boys 30m tar vs 60km of amazing jeep track and single track .This will include Majik Forest, Natida, Hill Crest then into Kliprug through Contermans Kloof down gthe green coridor into Meerendal. Go to Tygerberg MTB Club Website After this ride I should be well and well truely satisfied as well as tired. A wel deserved beer a and time with the family should cure my tired body.
  5. I got her a Silverback 2011 Ventura, New Silverback Range She loves riding it and so far so good as she seems to be into MTBing.
  6. It was a figure of speach. Saying that was up at 5-30am and started riding Jonkers at 7am. We did about 3h30 including the manditory stops to adjust the new setup. I will be riding all day long at the end of the month doing the Renosterveld Rhino ride. 3 days = 300km.
  7. Took the Zula to Jonkershoek today and the Team DMD did 38km as a trial ride. The Zula was awesome. The bike handles different compared to my old Trek top fuel. At the first fast narrow single track I had two close calls with the steering being more responsesive as I am riding with a wider bar now. Went from a 560mm to a 640mm. As I rode more I got used to my awesome machine. With a riser bar and set back post it is a laid back plush ride. The bike climbs great with the pro pedal working well with no bob. The verdict is still out on pro-pedal vs lock out on the rear shock. Just finished cleaning the bike, ready for the next ride during the week.
  8. Locked and loaded. Bike all built up as of 5-30PM 4 Aug 2010. See you bright and early to take on Jonkershoek, let the fun begin. Whats white and super sexy - My new MOREWOOD ZULA, ye baby, I will ride her all day long.
  9. Bump - in honour of the wife
  10. Hey guys Check out this BEST WIFE EVER My Wife Rocks , at least for the next week, then she could start moaning about why are you at home to bath the kids etc.
  11. I did spoil her. As we share a birthday, yes it is very wierd sharing your birthday with your wife. Its never just about you or your day. Getting back to spoiling her I bought her a new 2011 Silverback Ventura. Now I know you guys are going to compare a Morewood to a Silverback and say how could I be so cheap. Well as she is only starting out MTBing I thought i would get her a mid leval bike. The Silverback comes with great specs and beats all the other big brands out there buy at least 2 grand. Oh yes she was realy stoked to get her bike as well.
  12. My wife knocked my socks off in a good way for my birthday present. It all started with me buying myself a Truvativ nior carban raiser bar for my own birthday present. Its a super sexxy and 155 gram bar. I came home and gave it to the wife to pack in the cubboard so that the kids could give Daddy exactly what he wants for his b-day. No socks or undies please. I had asked for a new helmet from the wife, she did not ask to many questions about what size brand and model so I thought no helmet, I might be getting some clothes etc. The kids rapped the bar and decorated it in a gorgeous way with stickers etc, looked realy cute and the kids were stocked to give me, yet another MTb present. Later that day the wife asked me would I like another present. Well hello there of course I would. So I was told to close my eyes which I duly did. When I openned them up all I could see was a bike box with the words MOREWOOD on it. Yes boys she had bought me a new white ZULA, my dream frame. I had being eyeing out the frame for the past three months and was only planning to buy it in Feb 2011. As the topic tittle says BEST WIFE EVER. Now the fun begins with the rebuild. Went to CWC online shop and got all the bits and bobs at a great price. Starting the rebuild tonight
  13. Did the same two weeks before the Burger Sanlam. I popped a wheely a bit to hard and did a perfect 180. When my mate asked me if I was ok my first response was I dont know as I was in F-ing pain. This time it was not my ego that was bruised but my coccyx. Tried riding one week after the fall and it was dam sore. Going up hill was painfull. Needless to say the 60km Burger Sanlam was not a fun ride for me as I was still feeling the after effects of the fall. Those dam hills in which I am normally strong were a real killer.
  14. The first time my mate uesed clipless pedals he was in his driveway talking to his neighbour holding onto the wall. He then wanted to get off the bike and could not clip out in time and ended up falling over and bruising his elbow badly . I thought that this was vey funny and could not stop laughing when he told me . Two weeks later I was riding and my front wheel slid out on a clay mud section at speed. Wel the end result was I broke my clavical in half and needed a plate etc. As the say he who laughs last laughs the hardest. The moral of the story is dont laugh at a mate as it will bite you in the ass or shoulder or ego.
  15. I been riding the fox for about 2 years now. Very happy with it. Only issue I have had was when I inlfated it to much, added an extra 50 psi on a mates advice. Soon started to hear a knocking noise. Problem got sorted by the agents. Had a Rock shox before my Fox and over inflated that with no issues.
  16. Dam had my tummy all quesy and to think I ride with those hope brakes. The dude will most likely buy the brakes again as they are awesome.
