  1. I was passing after a ride through the Kammanasie Valley and turned it to enquire. I met the farm manager who gave me a map and arranged the gate at Bergplaas to be opened. I had not expected to ride it right away. Turned out to be one of the most difficult dirt tracks I have been on with my motorcycle. I would like to take my Mtb some time.
  2. She finds the KLR seat very uncomfortable on the dirt roads. She does not have much built in padding! I do long solo (one day) rides on the KLR and find it comfy enough for me. She enjoys the tar on my old FZR. Those old road bikes still have a proper pillion seat. I like the new Africa Twin, as when I tested one at Kyalami on a dirt trail, I found it to be as easy to ride as my KLR but with double the power. The SuperTen is also an amazing bike and particularly good for a pillion. It would be fine too on the dirt roads I would ride with the missus on the back. Anyway, that choice is still a future one!
  3. Saw this for sale in Cape Town.....saving for the Missus’s restaurant means this gorgeous Kawa will not become a garage mate for my similarly aged Yammie FZR1000
  4. I have a humble KLR 650 (well, not standard, uprated suspension and breathing) love this thing on the dirt roadsand trails in the southern Cape. Sure it is a bit slow on the tar, but I run full knobblies and stay off the tar as much as possible. **** uncomfortable for the Missus though. I am saving for an Africa Twin or ..........Super Ten to travel with her.
  5. You have great places to ride down your area. If You can face the long ride to Louvain farm, the ride over the Voortrekker route (dating from the 1700s) down to BergPlaas is stunning on a small bike. If you arekeen I can show you in June (when home) or of course just to welcome you to my pad in Hoekwil for a well earned beer after that ride! I hope your son is enjoying his bike as much as you are! My boy loved his Honda 125!
  6. Wave of you see an older guy on a bright green Courtyard Marriott bike with a horrible crate on the front. Occasionally around the Haarlemmemeer se Bos! Near Schipol.

    Who remembers?

Man, you remember the first song played on your tape deck in you car......awesome!! My favourite memories of times past in my first car is Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd, my Vee Dub Beetle with the amp under the passenger seat and a set of Pioneer 6x9 ‘s mounted on a board across the doggy box. Patrick Cowley, Megatron Man is there too!!

    Who remembers?

My first LP. Those tracks......bicycle race and fat bottomed girls...brilliant! I bought a Kenwood system in 1981, my first pay check as an appy at SAA, was the deposit. My Mom financed it and I paid it off. My daughter still uses the turntable now albeit with a modest upgrade in stylus..Ortofon. I still use the speakers with my telly, though I have rewired them with gold cable from Radio Shack in US, before they went bust. Have all of Queen on LP now , and Pink Floyd too. Trying to get my Metallica collection sorted now. Edited...spelling, eikona wena....this vin rouge!
  9. Day off from my Type Rating course near Amsterdam. Beautiful weather today, was able to bag one of the hotel bikes and explore a little. Nicer to run procedures in my head while cycling than study the same in the hotel room!
  10. Contact Mike at Randburg Motor Cycles, I jut saw it on the FB page. Not seen it for real.
  11. This for sale in Randburg, based on a Bandit 750, I rather like it, though I would prefer a front fender.
  12. This will be a fine motorcycle! Edited for vin rouge (rooi wyn) spelling errors!
  13. Yeah, thanks, still rides pretty good due to the low kms. Not been riding much this year sadly, so always a treat to hit the mountain roads when able.
  14. Turned up 22 222 kms through Kaaimans on the way to the weekly Outeniqua Pass jol. Well weekly when I am home!
  15. Love the one in the background checking out what is going on!
  16. Thor, our 2 year old Bull Mastiff weighing in at a svelte 60kgs, cuddling up to Marty, one of a brother sister pair of 2 year old rescues. Seven rescue cats in all, and most give Thor a wide birth, except for Marty, the smallest of the males!
  17. Nice article on the TRX in the Feb 2018 edition of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics magazine. If you like I can screen shot the pages and email to you. I just have the iPad subscription.
  18. And so many fantastic dirt roads to ride in your area, he will really enjoy it!
  19. Wish him happy and safe riding!
  20. These are cool little bikes. My son also learnt on one. Good to learn basic bike maintenance too. I used it often to nip to the shops instead of the sports bike.
  21. Thanks, much appreciated!
  22. Thanks Andymann, I am near Wilderness, Cape Town is okay for me. I am happy to trailer the bike to a quality tech guy. If you dont mind to share the fellows number via PM that would be great. I am hoping to be in Joburg for the Bike Festival so can bring the bike if you think Shimwells may be a good option. I have used Randburg Motorcycles before. They did a fine job on my 400/4, but they are so busy. The Joburg option all hinges on my work roster though. (I do contract work in mid east)
  23. Yes, thanks, interesting to read this as after some more thought this seems to be the next area for me to look, I may opt for a top end rebuild. The bike is on 107000 kms so I can't complain. Just need to find some one who can do it in my area. Otherwise, I see a trip to Joburg in my future! Edited....spelling.
  24. Ahhhhh.........this machine. It has started misbehaving. Wont idle well, sounds like 3 cylinders, but above around 4000rpm is great. I have checked the carbs, coils and plugs and am at a loss. Do any of you have a recommendation for a place or person to take the bike to anywhere between PE and Cape Town. I am in the George area. As old as it is, I do not want to scrap it, I like the old thing a lot! Thanks in advance.
  25. Worth travelling a little further west to North Riding is the Berliner. Very good, was my go to butcher when I lived in Fourways.
