  2. would that be for a minor or full service? I now have an idea about what they do in a minor service, what do they do in a major service?
  3. So I'm clueless about what they actually do on the bike....but to my defense I'm a newbie to the sport... So what do they do on the bike? I have a secondhand trek 1000 alpha series. Also about how much do they charge for such a service ???
  4. All I know about physio is Felicity goes, you know... on 7deLaan......
  5. this tread is brining into existence Sooooo many "other" topics like I can't believe
  6. 381 posts! wow, thats quite the number....
  7. I recently bought myself my first road bicycle. How do you know when the tires need replacing? the tires are smooth when still new, so one cant judge by looking at the thread of the tire ??? And also how do you get your chain and the gears clean from the old black grease and stuff, is there a certain product on the market? Or will a brush and soupy water do the job ? thanks!
  8. HAhaha....no....it's the real rugby playing springboks....I went and searched for proof...and I found it !!! I believe this would be sufficient proof....haha
  9. poll is open !
  10. ? Not a very good analogy' date=' slops are not made for running. You can however buy running shoes for a few hundred rands or you can spend a few thousand rands. Both will get you to the end of a marathon if you are fit enough. ? I don't believe that the value of a bicycle makes that big a difference to performance unless you are at a professional level where you need all the assistance you can get in terms of weight etc. to be competitive. ? Elvin to get back to your original question, I think 22km/h is very feasible on a MTB. On our Friday group training rides it has become tradition that those that have MTB's bring them on the road ride just for fun. We average 25-26km/h on those rides with no problems. ? As to the value of your bike, ride what you can afford. The most benefit will be in improving your own fitness levels which can be done on any bike. You will start to get faster and faster and pretty soon you will looking for ways to upgrade. Do it in stages and upgrade what you can when you can. ? My first race when I switched from running to cycling in 2002 was the 94.7 which I did for 2 years on my son's old Haro mountain bike which was about 10 years old (no suspension). I then bought a second hand road bike from Cash Converters for R600 and did the 94.7?race in 3:30. After that I am afriad the bug bit and I now pay more in cycling insurance premiums alone every month than I paid for that whole bike. Incidentally the bike is still being ridden by a guy from an orphanage in Magaliesburg. ? So anyway go out there and enjoy your riding at whatever average speed you can manage. Keep a log book and you will soon see?that speed increasing. ?[/quote'] THANKS FOR YOUR THUROUGH ANSWER! APRECIATE IT?
  11. .....my cycle computer is set up correctly, 22km/h is my true/correct average speed. It also measures distance VERY accurately.
  12. Okay....so I have an Pick n Pay special MTB that I use for road cycling(embarrassed as hell, but ah well) When I tell people about my average speed, some don't believe that I can achieve 22km/h, I don't know why though.... Is 22km/h fast for what I'm doing?.... also considering I have a LOT of climbs on route and as all know well, a MTB is VERY slow on climbs! so wont this also affect average speed ? Just wondering...
  13. ohh....wel then my method in weighing my bike was way wrong .I raised the bike on its back wheel and placed it on a ordinary household scale, lol, well the bike is those bulky Y-frame Dunlop MTBs...
  14. I intend to get a road bike, just a entry level one,how much lighter are they ?
  15. Currently I ride a MTB(its a heavy Y-frame bike),using it for road cycling, I do an average of 22km/h and wear normal running shoes,I still feel like I'm unfit and there's room for LOTS of improvements. If I get a light weight road bike, cycling shoes and go riding(at the same fitness level I'm at now) what increase in speed can I expect ? In other words, what difference can I expect going from a heavy mountain bike to a light road bike in conjunction with wearing cycling shoes? Thanks!Elvin2009-05-28 05:07:01
  16. If choice 1 be the case: what Km/h increase can one expect ?Elvin2009-05-28 02:46:02
