  1. The Fenix 2 Retails for R6500 in store and online about R5700. The Edge 200 is R1700 and a decent heart rate monitor R2300. With a price difference like that I'd rather save up for the fenix to get everything in one package..
  2. I don't think I'll use the route mapping for running as much..But if you have those feature you'll eventually start using them I guess..What's really appealing to me about the fenix 2 is cycling and swimming features and the fact that it looks like a modern day watch. It looks really big on pictures but it's not actually that big. Cape Union Mart in Menlyn was really helpful in giving advice and I also fitted the watch on my wrist..I Think it's kinda like buying a bike.. You can read as many reviews but once you go sit on a specific bike you just know.. Hopefully I'll make up my mind before the next Nissan Trailseeker as i'd like to test it out there.
  3. Pretty much yes..i like seeing my route mapped out with the different sections..I spoke to a guy t CapeUnionMart and he said if I've got the cash I should save up for a Fenix 2..Had a very in depth discussion about my lifestyle and where I live and what I like doing on holidays..The Fenix 2 is probably at the end of the day the best watch as it can be used as a day day to watch as well..Damm expensive though.. The other option is to buy something lke the edge200 to get the cycling info and then buying a decent heart rate monitor for gyming and to use as a day to day watch.
  4. I was at the opening last weekend...The guys from Tool Up cycles did a great job. It's mostly single track with a lot of climbs and obviously what goes up must come down..I think it's a good place to practice mtb skills. I'm comming from Queenswoods side but I'm driving there with the car..Plan on doing a few laps so I'm gonna need my motorized wheels to get me home.
  5. Going to the new trail park in Pretoria tomorrow with some friends if anybody wants to join. http://wolwespruit.co.za/
  6. So this is what I'm narrowing towards.. Garmin FR15. All though it's not made for cycling you can change the settings to show km/h. It's waterproof, heart rate compatible, built in GPS and has a virtual pacer, step counter and best of all you can use it as a daily watch . http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/06/garmin-forerunner-15-depth-review.html# . Anybody think it's a stupid choice and should rather go for something that's made for cycling?
  7. So many good reviews but still so damm hard to decide! I need an alternative to tracking workouts with my phone as there is no point in having a phone with you out on a ride only to see the battery has died and it only tracked half of the workout. As this would be my first fitness watch and I don't plan on syncing it up with cadence and power meters. But I would like to see my heart rate specifically for indoor training(occasional swim in the pool) and outdoors on the bike the basics of how long, how far, speed and being able to download the data to see my route.. I got miserable enough just deciding between what bike to buy (650b or 29er) and ended up spending more than my original budget.. 3 months later and the spending continues.. I hope it's not just me that goes through sleepless nights on decisions like these.
  8. How is the battery life of the tom tom? I'm looking to get a fitness watch that I can use for mountain biking and in the gym aswell..
  9. What's the distance? I've got a friend who would like to come but shes only been cycling for about two weeks now so the fitness is non excistent.
  10. If you're a shortish person buy a 27.5..I tested both 29er & 27.5 and because of my height (1.74m) I just felt more in control..Go to the bike store and let the sales guy measure your hip height etc..Should give you a good on what bike would suit you more.
  11. I'll be riding Groenkloof on Saturday morning if anybody is keen to join..Will be riding in the morning..7.30 to about 9am. I try and do as many single track sections as possible. Anybody who wants to join can PM me..
  12. I recently bought a Giant Talont 27.5....Tested a 29er just up and down the road but the moment I sat on the 650b I felt one with the bike..I'm not the tallest person and knew I'd be riding terrain that would consist of alot of single track with the occasional mtb race..Loving the bike more and more with every single ride!
  13. I might join you aswell..just got to see how the legs feel..Had my first race today and came in second.Chuffed with myself!
  14. lol..Just shows how new I am to this..Cool..I'm in..I's there a site I can pre-register on?Aslo i dont have a racing license which I've heard you need nowdays
  15. I dont have a light yet but I'll keep it mind thanx
  16. I just got into mountain biking and bought myself the giant talon 27.5 1. Got the bicycle in mid May and I've done just under 100km. First time in a long while that I bought somthing and really felt it's money well spent. Would be awesome to train/ride with someone over weekends and learn a few things. Went to Groenkloof last weekend had n great ride..Almost thought I got lost at some point haha. 1. I'm based in the Colby/Queenswood area 2. Early mornings.Mostly weekends 3. Single track or similar to what I experienced at Groenkloof 4. 15-20km 5. Depends on the amount of hills(fitness is getting there) 6. Very keen to do race in the near future. But a ride for fun is as good as any
