  1. You would pop a lot of wheelies
  2. Speshy camber, maybe the 2013 edition.
  3. Would be less worried about the muggings and more worried about the taxis. Maybe, when cycle lanes are introduced in Jhb it will be better.
  4. Crap... 2 terrible experiences with them and will never go near them.
  5. Extra wide... more tire to the surface
  6. I installed the ACs myself and highlight the following: 1. The set come installed with quick release but included the larger thru axles. 2. It took me about 2 hours to replace the QRs with the TA, and move over my cassette and rotors. You can download very extensive instructions on converting to TA from the AC website. 3. My Epic has a 142+ spacing, as opposed to the standard 142 spacing. This meant that I battled to get the correct spacing on the rear wheel. Fortunately, Magnus from cyclesonline kindly fitted the correct spacer for me. All in all, I am very happy with the AC. Apart from being a very respectful 1569g for the set, their wider width makes the tyres (Racing Ralph front and back) grip like hell. I have been pushing them harder and harder and still haven't managed to washout. Two thumbs up for me.
  7. To be fair, the trails were great when I first rode them. But you can read the disappointing posts for yourself about the condition at the beginning of this year. People I ride with also stopped riding the trail because of the bad condition and general neglect (no signage has nothing to do with the rains). To his credit, he did a great job to start with. But somewhere along the way the effort stopped. Under new management the trails/facilities are immaculate. I just hope they stay that way.
  8. You carry that in your camelbak or attached to the bike?
  9. As for the Moddertfontein connection, look at the latest threads on the topic. Apparently the place had degenerated to a complete hole at the beginning of the year. It was taken over by Ride Free and the trail/facilities look unbelievable now.
  10. You have just started a new MTB craze: I can picture all the fanatical men rushing out to buy pearl earrings in the hope that it may give them an extra second.
  11. Go the decent MTB route, IMO.
  12. Fair enough, then have a full go at them. It just wasn't clear from the info.
  13. I detest the behaviour, but just make sure you are complaining against the correct person, otherwise it is equally unfair to name and shame the incorrect party. The Hub screen shot does not mention anything about CC. The only reference is a dealer in Fourways. The OP says the seller name is an alias for CC Fourways. I have no idea whether it is or is not, but err on the side of caution. Unless you have correspondence with CC directly on the topic confirming they were the sellers, it may be better to direct your attack against RickyTom.
  14. Intentional misrepresentation = fraud Was the seller Concept Cyclery though, or someone who maybe works there and selling it personally? Whoever it is, they should be banned from selling on the Hub.
  15. For LA, it clearly wasn't about the bike. But what about for the rest of us? I can definitely say that upgrading my MTB has improved my riding and times substantially. Each time I ride a different trail with my new bike I break all my previous records, with minimal effort. When I really push myself, I smash those previous records. To be fair, I did upgrade from a Merida 26er to Specialized Epic 29er, so the geometries will have something to do with it. As for road, I am still relatively new to it. I am on an entry level Merida, with an upgraded groupset (ultegra) which works for my ability. I don't think an expensive road bike will make much difference to my riding at this stage, but that is just my opinion without having tried any other road bikes, so it is not informed. But I have read others (the Dogma F8 thread for example) who are of the opinion that, for road, it is not about the bike. Your thoughts?
  16. You can't go wrong with that camber. Probably the most balanced bike of them all. You won't regret it.
  17. I originally had a rocket Ron on front, but the sidewall tore during installation. Went back the LBS for a replacement and they were all out.
  18. ... damn, I like hearing that. Just put on a pair with RaRas front and back. Pushed them hard unit tight turns on Sunday at Moddies. When I thought the couldn't hold anymore, they found some more grip and dug in. Amazing traction.
  19. You were obviously shaking with excitement
  20. More importantly, nice wheelset. How you finding the Wide Lightnings?
  21. Wow. Nice bike for 3 months in. Many happy kms.
  22. Oh well, not everyone will agree with me. I work with 2 guys that have lost a lot a weight from cycling. Both of them chose a race as a target and then rode towards it. One did it through a training programme and has lost a whole lot more weight. If you are like me, you need a target to work towards. A big race 3 or so months down the line will give you some time to get some saddle time in. If you have no idea what training you need to do, find a training programme. I do agree that if you are able to find a group who rides regularly (3 to 4 times a week) that will serve the same purpose. Each to their own I guess. Just enjoy yourself.
  23. Well done rasper. The best thing to do, IMO, is to sign up for a big race. Whether it is a stage race or challenging 60kms is up to you, but a stage race would be better. There is a website called fittrack.co.za that then offers training programmes catered for most of the big races. Choose your race, choose your training programme, and choose what level you are aiming for (just to finish, podiums, or anything in between). It helped me with my first Berg & Bush.
