  1. From the pic Gummibear posted is that a phone in the driver's hand or a tree in the background. A phone will cause the bus to drift as it did as the driver was not watching the road. Just speculation but most of my close calls have been where drivers are looking at their phones and don't even see the guy on a bike
  2. I hear you but I just loved everything, except the road kill. The race village was up at the monument with plenty of coffee trailers and food. They were having a wheelchair race when I was there and I think a toddler race after. Somehow I think it's better as parking was a breeze and getting out of the event was also quick. Unlike 94.7 it's a mission in and out and the race village is also some way away from the finish. I hope it's the same setup next year for Tshwane except the start line music wtf????
  3. Rugby world cup final gave lots of oaks gout this morning ????????
  4. I mentally blocked Tom jenkens out of my mind so also missed it in a way.. can't remember Jack but went over without any issues ????
  5. Great race. Well done to the organizers and fellow riders. I had a awesome time on the bike. Looking forward to next year as it is a propper race with some serious fast fast boys.
  6. It's the Tshwane classic so obviously Tshwane will be the collection point. If you are from other side midrand then it's not Tshwane so be prepared to come to Tshwane to collect your number. It will only consume 3 hours of your Strava to come get your number so it won't effect your PB. O and P.S read the mail if you can't collect at the Tshwane collection points you can collect on race morning at the race village. So pukker up and enjoy the ride. See all you AL's there
  7. So her is my take on the classifieds. I was in the market for a second hand bike to train on. Saw a nice Spez come on the market. The guy wanted said price and put 'not negotiable' after it. So what I did was go to Spez and bought a new one for the same price. Sure it was one model down from his second hand. So if you are a chop and believe your sheet is the sh@1ts and don't even want to talk price then GLWTS. Some people advertise their stuff at new prices and then wonder why it does not sell. So to that guy with his Spez that said 'not negotiable' I like my new Spez and that's not negotiable
  8. Andrew, personally I think you need to relook the online store running separate to the physical stores. Was in the store in Pretoria now and there is a huge price difference between the store and online. The store does not carry the online stuff either. Just a bit confusing. Just my opinion and thoughts
  9. I always toss banana peels into the bush or grass. Never use Gu or any bars or stuff. But yip riding around PTA today the litter and junk around is amazing.
  10. Mine is permanently unlocked. Can't see why you would want to lock a fork. It is designed to travel and give maximum traction on the front wheel but traveling. It makes your cockpit neater too without the extra lever. I also found the rockshox lever very sensitive so it would release and lock the fork with the smallest of knocks. Been riding like this unlocked for ages and never miss the lock setting
  11. Check out the Video Fixture. Also MIPS. Got one last year at Solomon's for 800
  12. My question is if your helmet is CPSC certified what makes a 2k helmet better than a 700 Rand CPSC helmet.
  13. Mechanical seems to be the reason here. Just interesting that Tom Dumoulin changed bikes in the 2017 world time trial in Norway before a 3km climb on the course. He recond he could climb 10 seconds faster on a road bike then on a TT bike. Now that's technical
  14. Hang in there guys, it's a massive achievement to give up the stinkies. It must be one of the biggest test of will power but goes to show how strong the mind can be when it wants too. Well done to @pieter1 and @kerradoh and all the non smokers on lehub. Me I am 15 weeks stinky free today. Ok admittedly I have taken up vaping for my nic fix but the rest of me, and around me, are very grateful. Like I say 'nou trap ek n fiets raak'
  15. Yip, hope you come right soon????
  16. Eddy is right, don't buy a bike looking at resale in the future. Most bikes have no resale value. You buy to ride. Titan is good IMHO. The frame is probably all Titan make the rest is Shimano or some other common component. The frame won't break on you unless you smash into a wall at 40km/h but then again you will also be in your M. Most frames are made in the same factory with the expensive top brands coming from there own factories. Spez and silverback come out of the same factory it's only components that differ. One choosing Shimano the other sram. Titan have made big advances in their designs but in the mid range they are pretty stock standard
  17. Pitty, don't know the bike shops down there but maybe a hubber will point you in the right direction. 6/8k will get you something nice and new. Hell sportsman's have Titans not bad spec to get you going for less than 8k.
  18. Ha, can relate @notsobigben???? it is as simple as headshot says but once I lost the nipple into the rim. Choice words followed. Spent almost a day fishing out the nipple with the old spoke and prestik caus I refused to go the whole rim tape and sealent route ????
  19. Not sure where you stay, if in Gauteng PM me where, I can put you on to two LBS that have decent range around 6K. Like @slickjay007 found don't overlook momsen and silverback. Bang for your buck in 29er hardtail 2018 stock
  20. Could be as much as a few hundred Rand too. The spoke is cheap but you could need new rim tape and sealent top up. Won't really have to replace a rim it's hardly that serious. Can you not try a DIY first lots if vids on YouTube. If you don't come right then LBS it
  21. The range in the 6 to 8 thousand market is big. It is where most bike manufacturers are Keen to sell. The high end stuff don't sell big volumes. Having said this pop round to a few LBS'S (Local Bike Shops) and see what they have new. There will be something for you there that will serve you well for many years. You will quickly realize the components are all in the same range for the price some better but other small bits on the bike not as good as another bike. All manufacturers compete in the same classes and prices at the end of the day. Buying new obviously takes out the guess work as far as hidden repair costs go, as I find a MTB is used in some harsh environments the seller sometimes does not always disclose the condition of some components. It takes a Keen eye to spot these potential expensive failures. Wheel size is not a problem for a start it's just in s.a and Australia I believe that 29er is big. In the rest of the world 26er and 27.5 is still being used a lot. I still own a 26er and all I battle to find is decent tires but with a bit of shopping around I come right. My advice is find what you can afford, get into the sport and then move up from there. Also if you budget for say 6k on a bike get one for 5k caus there are a few extras like helmet and clothing that will be about a grand or a bit more that will push you over your cycling startup budget
  22. Could not agree with you more, well said. Now let's do as @grease monkey says
