Depends on where you live in Durban, if anywhere near Pinetown/Kloof there are many organised club rides most mornings some with back up vehicles!

Hi all As promised an update. At the Mr Price KZN Cycling Club awards evening held on Saturday Lauren was awarded a trophy for her 3rd overall place in the u16 league but... they also presented a special award to her in recognition for her continuous fundraising efforts and putting others first. She was so shocked/surprised when they called her up on the stage! Two weeks ago she received a donation from Penryn Preparatory school in Nelspruit who held a cake sale and donated the R1000 collected to Lauren's CHOC fundraising account!! They wrote: "Penryn Preparatory, in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, would like to congratulate Lauren on her endeavours to help bring awareness and raise funds for worthy causes, such as CHOC! Our Foundation Phase pupils had three cake sales during the third term and as part of our commitment to the community around us we donate part of the funds raised to a worthy charity or person in need. We hope whomever our donation will reach through CHOC will help bring a smile of hope and encouragement to them." Thanks again for all the support during the voting and KZN hubbers be ready, she wants to organise another '100 miles to nowhere' event so get ready!!

well it wasn't me or the club i belong to.. (shew)!! I have to admit though that the M4 is notoriously busy and still cyclists insist on riding 2 or 3 abreast - the false sense of security of the back up car may be their reason - but no excuse. At the same time, I can imagine it must be quite difficult to find decent training routes in that area as the options are few and far between. Hope they haven't spoilt it for themselves now and they ban all cyclists from now on??

Some really good news. A school in Nelspruit heard about the voting for Lauren etc and published a bit about her in their school news letter. I received a phone call this morning from the school to advise that the pre-primary school had held a cake sale and the children amongst each other decided that the money raised must go to Lauren/CHOC. R1000 towards such a worthy cause!! absolutely thrilled - again, she may not have won the award but the 'after effects' have been incredible!!

I will tell her - her little sister is a demon on the bike too...best you watch out!!

interesting read - just one little thing... i don't know if this is a kzn thing or what, but please guys, applying shammy cream in the car park, whilst having a conversation with someone, is just not.. ...ayoba... i am sure this can be applied at home... just saying..

Hi there all. thank you so much for voting!! I must have looked like a real teenager at the expo on saturday, trying to vote on my cell phone for the last few minutes before cut off. I am going to the awards ceremony tomorrow and should know by lunch time! Needless to say I will post here, or get one of the hubbers to post the result. Thank you once again for the votes and win or lose, she has been awarded for her efforts just by all the outpouring of support and encouragement from everyone she knows as well as total strangers, a totally humbling experience for all of us.

bump from mom!! This was posted on the CHOC facebook page by a mom in the US: 'Lauren is an amazing young woman!! When they (mom and Lauren) heard of my 6-year old son's diagnosis with lymphoma they rode the Argus Cycle Tour in his honour and then sent him the medals (along with a singing cow and the badges/pins that Lauren makes!!) He was thrilled!!! She truly is an outstanding role model for young people everywhere. She needs a good lead out - let's do it!!! and yes, i am so proud - actually that is an under statement but words fail me at this stage. She has is a remarkable young lady but you are all equally as awesome because the awareness this has created for CHOC has been mind blowing!!
