  2. On the advice from a cycling friend i changed from 12 / 25 to 12 / 27 (Shimano 105) - to make things a little easier when I got my road bike after having been spoilt with a granny gear at the front on my first bike... (it was a rather hectic adjustment to ride without "granny"...) Now with all this talk of having a compact crank making hills easier etc etc, it sure sounds appealing to me. Having changed to 12/27 on the back is it still possible for me to change to a compact crank in the front? 2nd question... what price (approx. labour and cost of crank) 3rd question... worth it? I know with training the hills get easier, but I would also like to enoy the scenery at times without having blurred vision... anyone?bobbie2008-09-01 10:21:03
  3. Just wanted to say thanks to those who joined our ride on Saturday. It was awesome. RaceChick (most sensible woman I know, chose to stay and have coffee when we went for a second ride...) and hubby Jan, thanks for making the effort, the weather looked really bad but you guys pitched anyway!! It was great meeting you both! Andrewbell - for the elegant dismount and giving ER 24 something to do! Wallee & Keith - for being there and making the ride entertaining. Veloce - for being the "tourguide" the first ride (thanks for the hills ) Linnega - for being the "tourguide" the second ride - "gravity dice" Awesome! (thanks for that hill ) And the food was awesome! So, good company, awesome riding, yummy food and even better refreshments! Definitely to be repeated! bobbie2008-08-18 03:46:02

  12. Ok Hubbers, the menu suggestion: The Giba Menu: Napoli & bacon penne pasta<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> or Pesto chicken penne pasta Served with A garden table salad DESSERT Chocolate Brownie served with Vanilla ice cream R65 per person Let me know what you guys think!! bobbie2008-08-05 09:16:10
  13. Update: Gauteng hubbers: http://www.cliftoncountryhouse.co.za/ Self catering cottage @R160 per person per night. You can actually ride to Giba gorge from the cottage!! I have proposed a "set lunch menu" for us at the Giba restaurant to keep things running smoothly and we spend more time riding than waiting for different orders etc. etc. I will post the details the moment I have them. (was thinking of food like chicken wraps/burgers/steak rolls etc.)? I suggest we ride from 08h30, stop at about 11 for refreshments and maybe a muffin or something, and then ride until 13h30 - 14h00 to have a late lunch, followed by another ride to end the day which will be followed swiftly by some bitterly cold refreshments in the restaurant!! Please let me know what you think/suggest/etc.

  15. report back: Hire bikes for the day R200. we can use them from morning till night time. I have provionally booked 10 bikes but need to confirm sizes and final quantities 1 week before! the idea is to arrive at Giba at 08h30, do a few tracks and then have "brunch" - back on the bikes, do some more tracks, have liquid lunch (there is a bar and restaurant on site) and for those who want to, go back and ride some more. The restaurant is open till "whenever" according to the owner so ifyou guys want I can try and organise a 'set menu' of sorts so we can have dinner there after the last ride? Let me know!!
  16. Great!!
  17. Hey Bell's Angel!! 18 = KZN Hubbers 5 = Gauteng Hubbers!! ps and dont worry, the routes are clearly marked... no one will get lost........
  18. I will be at Giba today and find out about the cost to hire bikes. I do think that if you guys decide to go that route, to let me know a.s.a.p. how many bikes to "pre-book" so that we can make sure they are available. Will speak to the owners and find out if we can get a better rate to hire if we "hire in bulk" so to speak. Will post the price here later.
