  3. Not a close friend no, but still. I have probably cycled past her and her friends on many occasions... I just find it so unnerving since I take my little ones to cycle in that exact area - because its safe...
  4. Cyclist ?lost control? say police http://blog.ecr.co.za/newswatch/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/cyclist-helmet.jpgMore details have come to light about today?s cycling accident in the Hillcrest area in which a woman in her thirties tragically lost her life? The police?s Daniela Veldhuizen says they?re investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident in which Lindy de Beer died after being knocked over by a truck. ?It?s alleged that she lost control of the bicycle and landed underneath the truck. At this stage we?re not sure if the truck driver actually saw her? we haven?t arrested the truck driver. Police are investigating this case and if he?s found to be negligent, we?ll arrest him.? De Beer had apparently been out cycling on Jan Smuts Avenue with a group of friends at around lunchtime today - when the tragic incident occured. It?s believed she was married with two young children. This happened at round about lunch time yesterday. The area she was cycling in is called Winston Park and is the most beautiful area with tree lined streets (not long ago I posted some photos of this very road in misty conditions). Yesterday was a perfectly clear, autumn day. We have had 4 incidents of people being "bike jacked" in Hillcrest and our cycling clubs have advised all us lady cyclists to always ride in groups and avoid the "problem areas".... Winston Park is the area where I, and many other lady cyclists still dare ride, as its regarded as "a quiet" area... How wrong we all are. My sincere condolences to her family, I can not even begin to imagine the hurt you are all feeling right now. Rest in peace Lindy

  21. From dad to the two Heroes!! Hi Cecil and Trevor,<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Just a short note to say THANKS once more for the very pleasant ride on Sunday. It was wonderful that you kept us company and I do hope we will meet soon again, or else at the latest: the next Argus! Stay well, ride safely, and the very best regards, Michael Schreuder Ladysmith
  22. Hey there all you well wishers!! What an absolutely awesome awesome Argus it was indeed! Hagar, to you and Cecil , man, I should have given you both another 1000 hugs at the finish, i am so grateful for your company, laughs and support (eish Hagar... that darn Sugar Bush..!! The only thing that is sore today are my dad's cheeks from smiling! i have never seen my dad so chuffed, and rightly so! He managed a very respectable 4h42 which, 6 months of training and as a first Argus is not too shabby (hey Nige!!) Hagar, the Coach... mmmmm i saw some people i knew going up Chappies, what a pleasant surprise, lots of chatting later... Hagar says: bobster, be quiet and ride.... good grief... nearly fell of my bike... so kept quiet and carried on suffering... near the top, yet another friend... same scenario... same response from Hagar the.....Ho... I mean Hero!! We had an absolute blast! Dad's knees got a little "tender" towards the last 5kms, but he hung in there. I am so so proud of him! Hagar and Cecil you are my heroes for life!! You rock!! To Joe Low - thanks so so much for bringing me the cyling shirts at the last minute... To Pocketbikes - thanks so much for riding behind my dad on the hubbers ride on saturday. My dad feels the most comfortable on my wheel and having you "protect him from the traffic" coming up by being just to the right of him was a great relief for me.. and a huge thanks for the back up vehicle rookie101 - next year its us! watch out boys!! Rad006 - met you before the start and again just before chappies. You deserve the biggest round of applause for sure! I know that you were struggling a bit at that stage and yet saw you flying thru the finish!! You are amazing! To all the hubbers I met at the breakfast, you are all much more awesome in real life! best thing i could have done is go on the saturday ride! (Wonderwoman - remember the offer re Durbs! Chillie, remember the Jagerbomb deal!! ) To my dad: wow wow wow... you have blown me away with your tenacity and strength!! Next year: 4 hours!!
