  1. Hi guys, we've managed to open one new route for the race that EVERYONE will race 'blind' ie NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO RIDE IT BEFORE THE RACE! Here is the warning from facebook. "We have cut new trail for Hoogekraal enduro. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO RIDE IT UNTIL SUNDAY. If you're caught, you will not BE ALLOWED TO RIDE THE ENDURO. The reason being, it will put riders off the normal trail and onto private fields and this will peeve the farmer off, rightly so. We will no be able to hold enduro's in the future then. SO DON'T RIDE ANY trail that's not on the normal routes. WE REPEAT - DO NOT RIDE THE OFF CAMBER, STEEP, NEWLY CUT TRAILS on Spykers Hill and the Hoogies DH. WE will not have an event here again if you do!!!!!" Let's show everyone that enduro riders are not entitled twats and can abide by the rules. Please inform any/all riders you encounter at Hoogekraal of this fact if you see them. STAY OFF ANY TRAILS that aren't official/marked officially! Holding thumbs that we can get through this week without being phoned by an irate landowner...
  2. Hi Hubbers, I joined up with the Wild Air crew and suffered like a dog to show you guys 2 of the trails that'll be in the race this Sunday-gotta say it was not easy to talk and ride at the same time! Both my talking and riding went down the drain . Entries close tonight 23:59 so get in there!
  3. Yes, of course! In fact we encourage you to go and ride and check out the trails and there are some challenging ones in the race!
  4. I've just updated the routes and sent on the maps to Tygerberg MTB club and I believe they'll have a new website with updated maps on it soon.
  5. So with Jonkershoek open again, we're hoping that peace reigns and SAPS will give us the go ahead to run the final round of the series. Booking are still open and we're sitting at about 70 entries so far. We're looking forward to seeing you hubbers conquer the gnarly course!
  6. "and dropped the hammer, so to speak. Turns out it was a ball-peen instead of a sledge, though." Classic writing!
  7. Last day to enter and pay is today! We have 80 brave riders that are willing to tackle a beast of a ride. Snow is falling in Ceres meaning it's going to be a pearler of weekend with sunny skies and snow topped mountains in the distance. This is the previous newsletter in case anyone wants to know race details etc
  8. We built a mudpit under it too
  9. We'll be sending out an email shortly to all entrants. Getting nervous!
  10. Yeah, bums us out too as we were keen to do Eselfontein festival too
  11. Hi Hubbers, The EWC Team regrets to announce that the Jonkershoek enduro is postponed to Sunday 14 October. We got word last week that SAPS has decided, in the interests of public safety, to revoke our event permit, due to the unrest/protest action that has been happening recently in the Jonkershoek Valley. We have scrambled the last few days to try and make it happen, either at Jonkers, or at another suitable venue on the same date, but it has unfortunately not been possible at such short notice. We really hope you can join us on the new date - anyone that has already entered but cannot make the new date, please message us and we will arrange a refund for you. It sucks, but it was out of our hands, and at the end of the day the call was made for everyone's safety. At least we all get more time to train... it's going to be a biggie!
  12. And the good news is that the elevation is "only" about 1700m, not 2000m like originally planned
  13. We have yet to finalise the course (we need to go and build some trail and check to see if others are viable after the rains) but distance is not a good indicator for preparation for this race- just know that you WILL be out for around 7-9 hours!OUr estimations are that it will be around 48km and close on 2000m elevation with 2 heavy hike-a-bike sections and 5 incredible special stages that'll blow your socks off!
  14. We'd love to have family members there. We are hoping to have a few SUPS around on the dam and there's great riding and exploring potential for the kids around the campsite. That said, there's no electricity, the campsite is quite barebones (There will be toilets and hot showers though). The potjie meal is reserved for riders only though so please be aware of that.
  15. Not quite...but after all the talk about it being easier last year, we're going to make it blerry hard for those smug peeps
  16. We'll be deciding this week and will release partial course info in the weeks leading up to the event.
  17. Something I'm missing? Not sure what you mean.

Riders are timed in primarily downhill sections (Special Stages or SS), with neutral “transfer” stages in between (Liasons). Winners are those who accumulate the lowest combined time from the timed Special Stages. (Join the EWC facebook page to learn more about Enduro and future events etc) We welcome ALL riders and our courses are totally rideable as long as you are enthusiastic about riding fun singletrack. It’s like a weekend ride with your mates – regroup at the top and race each other down the trail! While the racing is fiercely competitive, the vibes are super chilled and Enduros are a great way to gain technical skills and fitness. Enduros can be raced on all types of mountain bike but we recommend full suspension trail bikes with travel between 120-160mm with dropper posts. Protective clothing (long sleeves, knee cover and full finger gloves) is advised. Open face helmets are fine while some riders choose to wear full face helmets. Some definitions to help you out: SS = Special Stage, Timed run between a start and end timing station LIAISON = the route to get to the next Special Stage. Liaisons are not timed SHUTTLE = If you are lucky, the organisers allow you and your bike to jump on a trailer/bakkie to get up any tough liaisons LITE = An Enduro race with less distance covered and the more difficult ‘Special Stage’ trails taken out. Great for youngsters and those who may not know what enduro is all about (it’s all about FUN btw!) The EWC Race series is bought to you by Tygerberg MTB Club and Giant Bicycles, South Africa A little bit of info on the entry system: - You will need to set up a profile for yourself (and you can also do so for others if you would like to enter and pay for others). This is a once-off thing, and your details will be saved for future events. - If you don't have CSA membership/licence, just add a Day Licence to your basket - this is mandatory for event liability cover. - Full Enduro is 5 stages, LITE Enduro is 3 easier stages. Start Batches: The seeded start batches worked well last time and ensure an efficiently run day and it means you can arrive 1 hour before your start batch, saving you time. We'll be adding a fourth group for the fastest 30 riders from Round 1 that will leave last. If you would like to start in a different group from the one you selected when you entered, it is no problem – you don’t have to tell us – just pitch up, register, and shred in the other group! Registration Open: 7h00 Batch 1: (FULL Enduro racers) Race Briefing: 7h30 Start: 7h45 Batch 2: (LITE & casual riders) Race Briefing: 8h00 Start: 8h15 This should ensure that everyone is only out on course for about 3-4 hours and very little queuing at starts of the Special Stages. It also means that early starters can go up to one of the last stages after they have handed in their timing watches and heckle the pro’s! When you enter the event you will be able to choose your start batch. We’ll let you know your start times before the event. Go to Event Page
  19. Ewalds race report is up here
  20. Rob (farm owner, nice guy and yesterday's winner)put it in. While it caused some issues (mostly with marshalls and us organisers), it was better than going into the rocks at full tilt and the possible breakages of bodies and wheels that were the alternative!
  21. Indeed. Luckily we had volunteers in the area to go and fix the tape. Apparently there were quite a few surprises there.
  22. Adam putting his body on the line to not go through the tape-Kudo's!!(Unlike a few other savage people I know. Cough.cough).
  23. New results link here (with correct Womens categories) https://www.wpcycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/EWC_Contermanskloof_Results.pdf
  24. Ah, yes, Sorry- jetlagged or just stupid? 12am tonight!
