  1. Turn out the predictions were right after all Hoping as much rain fell in jhk as in Cape Town. Sure it will help bedding in the trails immensely as long as people don't ride for the next few days and let it bake hard for a few days.
  2. Never believe YR (or any other weather predictions) more than 3 days in advance. I have seen so many good plans scuppered in fear of rain and when the day comes, the weather is perfect.
  3. We are always look for freelance guides (especially in the Stellenbosch area). Requirements? Qualified guide & first aid certificate (preferably wilderness based) and PDP drivers license. On the riding front, you have to be elite level in terms of fitness and technical ability to keep up with the best customers and have the patience of a saint to ride with the slowest!
  4. Oh yes! A beautiful frame built in Cape Town and wheels 'handgemaak' in the Cape. An African bike that is world class!
  5. It really was a great event! Big up to the organisers (now please sort the timing out or get a new timer!) and Thomas for the sweet video and Ewald for the rad photo's- Well done to Stefan for the win and all the riders for surviving the course and having the coolest attitudes and vibe in the sport. Great to see lots of people on flat pedals and sporting the appropriate protection.
  6. Hi Hubbers, Like Brando said, there is a race there this weekend and it will include a lot of these trails. I'd highly recommend entering it if you are wanting to ride great trails and experience great hospitality! And as the articles says, they will be hosting events here in the future so keep an eye out for them. Another way to ride them is through our 'Wild weekends', where we focus on incredible rides, good food and self improvement through skills clinics. Our first one in Piketberg will only be in February 2016 due to the owners finishing off the campsite first. I don't think it's fair to the landowners and trail builders to suggest that they have to give the public access to trails-perhaps in a perfect world they would gladly do so. In the real world, they would have to deal with are rogue riders, self entitled people and riders that aren't self sufficient on the trail that create more of a headache than a R50 trail entry is worth. Just my 2 cents on the subject...
  7. Correct. Matthieu is french so runs his brakes right hand = back.
  8. Yeah, I am sure Robert has plans to make those worn out jumps better as soon as some more rain comes into play. Will ask him though and just mention that people are keen for them!
  9. No braking by Matthieu in this photo. Check his fingers-off the brake-just flat out speed!
  10. It is. Moments before scratching Ewalds lens. Which rock is the culprit?
  11. I really should start offering this as an add on! I have lost count of how many strangers chains and tubes I've fixed. Not to mention plugs, borrowed pumps (never to be returned)!
  12. Ewald is bloody good at capturing the best from us! That said, anyone who wants to lean like this can learn on our level 3 skills course (www.irideafrica.com). It's pretty simple to learn but one has to have a good understanding/practice of a few fundamentals first (footwork, brake control and body positioning)
  13. Oh, I just love having extra weight to lug around. Just joking...My pack is my 'guiding' pack for our guided tours we provide. That means the normal water, tools and spares that everyone should be carrying anyway, plus first aid kit and a bunch of spares that are normally unnecessary but a need to have if we're renting bikes out to clients. So basically I'm the best guy to have on a ride-carries all the weight and provides you with all the spares when things go wrong!
  14. Great stuff! More info is here-tell your mates!
  15. Sorry corrected it. Cederberg 28-30 Aug, Eselfontein 11-13 Sept
  16. Haha! Ok so I wasn't totally incorrect then...
  17. Ja, Deon is good like that! Better be able to handle your Brandy and Cokes!
  18. One in Cederberg 28-30 Aug and one in Eselfontein 2 weeks later -11-13 Sept. Would be great to have you along.
  19. Trust me, when I say that you haven't ridden all the trails there yet We have discovered some incredible, hardcore riding recently after visiting it for more than 10 years. Making maps now...Enjoy your weekend there!
  20. Haha! I am a 'rooinek' so you'll have to forgive me on the definition
  21. You should join us on one of our 'Wild Weekends' out there then. 10-20 intermedaite/advanced mtber's, riding rad trails with great food and skills sessions to boot!
  22. I have it on good authority that the lanes aren't complete yet and they will be erecting some form of barrier between cycling lane and the road which will be great. Also have reservations about the lack of parking that is now available but apparently the albert road tenants where happy with the cycle lane concept.
  23. Hi Hubbers, As promised, we've put this 3 day riding package together for those that are keen to ride technical trails in the Cederberg. We've called it a 'wild weekend' because we plan on offering them in the more remote areas we know of. First one is on the 28-30 August. The basic idea is to have fun and experience the beauty of our country, while improving your riding and learning how to service your bike through skills clinics run by myself (Daniel Dobinson). It'd be great to know if you hubbers are keen to sign up because then we could run a few more throughout the year in our favourite riding destinations.
