  1. A hardtail is fine (anywhere really!), but there are some technical sections that are tough. Mostly low speed technical stuff though so if you have the skills, you can make it! I'll get back to you hubbers with dates for a proposed trip and we can see what the interest is.
  2. Norman, these are the Sanddrif trails. There are a few other mtb specific trails in the Cederberg but Sanddrif has the most (and the best quality, IMO). They have added quite a lot of new trail to the loop on the Western side (Maltese cross side) which make it's far more interesting (though the switchback climb is brutal in the heat!). I still need to update my maps on my website to show the new trails but they are well marked. Anybody keen to join iRide for a weekend tour out this way in the near future? Planning on a brilliant weekend of riding, skills clinics and bike mechanic courses.
  3. NixM, That picture of Rupert peeing was his punishment for his crazy antics the whole weekend. Sorry!
  4. Rad photos and rad report Ewald! Thanks for all you do for our sport!
  5. Well done champ! Very few things in this world compare to the feeling of achieving what you set out to do years back. So well written you almost tempted me to do another 24 hour..almost.
  6. Great article! Love the details Dave are in the article, though it just scratches the surface of what can go on into a frame and the knowledge that Dave posseses. I am very proud to own a Mercer frame!
  7. So bummed I couldn't be there to race it, but Ewalds pics are a great consolation prize!
  8. Another bike on the wishlist. Damnit Mercer!
  9. Great photos Ewald and sick vid Thomas. Always amazing to see what you can do in such a short time! Thanks for the writeup
  10. DH bike can take that terrain. No hassles on the trip from mine but have replaced all pivot and wheel bearings and it's running good as new (better check my pedals though-tx for the heads up).
  11. To my credit, I think I dislocated my shoulder on Day 2/3 only... and in retrospect I'm pretty glad or else I would have been pressured into doing the crazy **** Rupert and Evan were doing! Gotta say it was an incredible trip and besides not improving on my skills much after my crash, I got all the steep, slippery, rooty stuff that I could dream of. In fact, did anyone else on the trip have riding dreams every night? I know I did and Kevin as well because he sleep talks -one sleepy quote " No man. I just can't find the right line!"
  12. Packed my bike up-DH bikes take considerably more time than trail bikes to pack. I need a scale! Super amped-just wish I could shake this sore throat...
  13. In the state I am in ( a coughing phlegm ball of misery), I have no friends. Here's another 'webcam' I guess from the other side of the mountain... I trust my friends! I'm sure it will clear my mid-summer when we are there!
  14. Pitching up on a day with weather like that-kudos! I have been down and out with bronchitis since the beginning of the month, hence me being rather scarce. Extra beers next time to the 3 that pitched!
  15. We are your guys BlackJack. If he's coming to Cape Town area then we host custom mtb tours or he might be able to join in one that we are already running. Check us out at www.irideafrica.com
  16. Thanks marko35s, I guess we have to just keep on advising people until the signage is up.
  17. uh oh. Evan is on board... Be warned! Riding and drinking is going to take on a new level
  18. Thanks for the referrals hubbers! TheGreenMamba, just drop us on email at info at irideafrica dot com or check out our website and fill in the bike reservation form at irideafrica.com
  19. Here's the offending rock. Actually looks like it make a pretty rad new trail feature if TokaiMTB can build it up a bit?
  20. Ja, am worried about the weight issues. My Canfield weights a tonne and I'd like to bring a spare set of tyres with because I am going to be doing more riding than all of you-yes, that's a challenge!
  21. Good going! That whole DH is certainly rideable on a trail bike but I certainly wouldn't like to race it-let alone in the rain on a trailbike! Good on ya!
  22. Picked up my passport today. Schengen visa approved!
  23. I don't think it's really important to have a runner on the committee but I do run. Only trail running nowadays but I have done the comrades and have run XC for KZN in my youth so do understand and love running (not that I admit to it to my friends who say that I turn into a grumpy grouch when I am running!)
