  1. Entries are open and working but we are dealing with a bug wrt CSA license so those who enter now will have to pay the R35 day license fee on race day (if you don't have a CSA membership)
  2. We opened entries early as a bunch of the committee is going on holiday over July.
  3. Event Name: EWC Round 2 Contermanskloof When: 29 July 2018 Where: Contermanskloof, Western Cape Category: Enduro EWC ENDURO -CONTERMANSKLOOF Sunday, 29 July 2018 Venue: Contermanskloof, Durbanville Start time: 08h00 & registration opens at 07h00 Timing: iTime Africa will give you wrist watches. The system has been proven to work well and is very similar to AMA rider. Riders will be charged R200 if they lose or do not return their watches after their race! Pre-entries ONLY! Cost: Full Enduro R364 and R35 extra for CSA day license if you aren't a CSA member LITE Enduro R264 and R35 extra for CSA day license if you aren't a CSA member Enter online: Credit card and instant EFT payments via PayFast only ENTER ONLINE (login OR create a profile/register) Enduro racing in its most basic definition is a type of mountain bike racing where the downhills are timed, and the uphills are not. Riders are timed in primarily downhill sections (Special Stages or SS), with neutral “transfer” stages in between (Liasons). Winners are those who accumulate the lowest combined time from the timed Special Stages. (Join the EWC facebook page to learn more about Enduro and future events etc) We welcome ALL riders and our courses are totally rideable as long as you are enthusiastic about riding fun singletrack. It’s like a weekend ride with your mates – regroup at the top and race each other down the trail! While the racing is fiercely competitive, the vibes are super chilled and Enduros are a great way to gain technical skills and fitness. Enduros can be raced on all types of mountain bike but we recommend full suspension trail bikes with travel between 120-160mm with dropper posts. Protective clothing (long sleeves, knee cover and full finger gloves) is advised. Open face helmets are fine while some riders choose to wear full face helmets. Some definitions to help you out: SS = Special Stage, Timed run between a start and end timing station LIAISON = the route to get to the next Special Stage. Liaisons are not timed SHUTTLE = If you are lucky, the organisers allow you and your bike to jump on a trailer/bakkie to get up any tough liaisons LITE = An Enduro race with less distance covered and the more difficult ‘Special Stage’ trails taken out. Great for youngsters and those who may not know what enduro is all about (it’s all about FUN btw!) The EWC Race series is bought to you by Tygerberg MTB Club and Giant Bicycles, South Africa A little bit of info on the entry system: - You will need to set up a profile for yourself (and you can also do so for others if you would like to enter and pay for others). This is a once-off thing, and your details will be saved for future events. - If you don't have CSA membership/licence, just add a Day Licence to your basket - this is mandatory for event liability cover. - Full Enduro is 5 stages, LITE Enduro is 3 easier stages. Start Batches: The seeded start batches worked well last time and ensure an efficiently run day and it means you can arrive 1 hour before your start batch, saving you time. We'll be adding a fourth group for the fastest 20 riders from Round 1 that will leave last. If you would like to start in a different group from the one you selected when you entered, it is no problem – you don’t have to tell us – just pitch up, register, and shred in the other group! Registration Open: 7h00 Batch 1: LITE/beginner riders Race Briefing: 7h55 Start: 8h00 Batch 2: Intermediate riders Race Briefing: 8h50 Start: 8h55 Batch 3: Advanced riders Race Briefing: 9h40 Batch 3 – 9h45 Batch 4: Top 20 riders Race Briefing: 10h25 Batch 3 – 10h30 This should ensure that everyone is only out on course for about 2-3 hours and very little queuing at starts of the Special Stages. It also means that early starters can go up to one of the last stages after they have handed in their timing watches and heckle the pro’s! When you enter the event you will be able to choose your start batch. We’ll let you know your start times before the event. Go to Event Page
  4. Softest landing because you took out the nice big bush I was so chuffed to see Duane there huffing and puffing-didn't know he had it in him to push that hard! Contermanskloof will be less pedally and might have a few nice surprises
  5. Stage 2 timing pod was working fine for a bout 30% of the field then the screen went blank so was swapped out with a backup pod but that pod was programmed to stage 7 (my mistake) and I hadn't written code for Stage 7 download yet. Obviously we can't work out cumulative results if only 30% of the field has stage 2 times and the rest don't. It took me all day yesterday to do the coding to check the rest of stage 2 results (top 3 men and women remained the same btw) and hence why we scrapped stage 2 times to get results out at the event and on the day (one of the most important goals for us this year as well as the racers and sponsors). Omitting stage 2 does not result in incorrect rankings because the race becomes a 4 stage race and not a 5 stage race, which is a decision left to the race organisers and is the worldwide standard when these kind of problems occur. Hope this explains it clearly enough?
  6. Thanks for that Tony! What a pedal strike-eish!
  7. If you think pink is for girls you are the problem Nick We used pink because it's bright and can be seen for miles so eyes are drawn to it and we'd rather have riders riding the easier lines than the advanced lines (also pink and blue were the only colours available
  8. At least, for once, it's not our systems fault
  9. Any chicken lines will be marked with pink flags and if the advanced line is chosen to be open it'll be marked with blue flags and there'll be warning signs of any drops or gap jumps as well as easy/hard line choices.
  10. Great! Please contact us if you're willing to help. Basically all our volunteers are busy with timing, signage, etc and making sure the race runs smoothly so if you have a bakkie that can get to the top and 5 hours of your time to help out please contact us We didn't think it necessary for a water stop on this route and are trying to encourage riders to be self sustained.
  11. Unfortunately enduro's are very expensive to run. The costs that make the event possible are just so high because riders share the race cost between only 100-150 riders (compared to 1000's at marathon events for example). Having quality medical assistance, paying land owners, hiring radios, providing good signage, toilets and the large amount of hidden extra's do add up. The cost of the timing system is also high and very specialised (essentially 5/6 races in one) but we've managed to make it cheaper than any other timing system by developing and building our own timing system. The guys/girls who run EWC also don't make money out of the event so it's months of their hard work and travelling expenses which goes into the event for free. Overseas, enduro events are at least double the price and it's only thanks to the sponsors (Tygerberg MTB club and Giant) that we can at least cover the costs of the event even with the high entry fee. We are hoping to grow the sports numbers while keeping the queues etc to a minimum so that once we consistently have 200+ riders at each race the race fee can drop (one of our main goals as we know it's expensive) but we have to grow numbers and provide good race experiences for that to happen and then we're hoping it'll become a more sustainable practice for racers and organisers alike. Hope that answers your question and no hard feelings on asking it as we used to wonder why too! Hoping you have a blast at your first Enduro on Sunday!
  12. Entries close 23:59 Thursday 19th April. Though there are only about 60 spots left to enter!
  13. Come and help us out then! We haven't mentioned it yet but we are always looking for volunteers to help with timing etc on the day in exchange for the next race entry fee. So if you're sick or injured then contact us! Many hands make light work etc etc
  14. Check out our tongue in cheek (but informative) instructional video of bikes to bring, gear to wear, how the timing system works and race etiquette here.
  15. Correct. We'll have food and drinks at the finish but do not have the budget for refreshment stations at this time.
  16. You'll need to be self sufficient. Water, tools and spares please.
  17. You guys can see the FULL Enduro and LITE route now on the entry page. Only 9 riders entered in the LITE so far so get your friends that are new/unsure about enduro to enter!
  18. We'll state your start batch (and times etc)in your final email before the race.
  19. Not transferable I'm afraid. I may be able to convince the committee to transfer your entry to the next event at Contermanskloof.
  20. Good Question! They'll do stages 2,3 and 5. ie not Cobra and not Patricks Plunge. Signage will direct them to the correct stages and I'll try get a course map going for the LITE.
  21. Hubbers, The course map is now live on the event page link if you want to go and peruse /practice the course. It's short but Harry tells me 800m in 20km is rather tough so I'll believe him! Just make sure you display your Tygerberg numberboards on your bars or pay the trail fee before riding. NO riding stage 3 downhill as that reserved for race day only (you will be banned from the race and the club if you are caught riding stage 3!) Stage 5 will have a bit more interesting trail added towards the top to take out those slow and boring switchbacks.
  22. I'm in the Vets club now (post 40). I would prefer the category to be called Fast@forty though masters is post 50 years young
  23. Hardtails are faster at Hoogies. I reckon there'll be a few on the podium
  24. No E-Bike category I'm afraid. CSA expressly forbids E-Bikes on the same course at the same time and we are operating under their rules.
  25. I've updated all the maps ages ago but as far as I know the website hasn't been updated yet. The signs at the trail heads are current AFAIK
