    Who remembers?

Remember doing that in the army circa 1985. Lack of cell technology meant that if you wanted to phone the lass you waited in a moer long queue until you got your chance. 3 minutes each I think ?? wanna make another call, go to the back of the queue again. we whiled away many hours waiting to use that (*^&%$& phone. Reverse charges please LOL - the lady I was dating at the times dad was some bigwig in Telkom so his home phone was a perk - worked well. Choice between phone the folks or phone the lass.... phone the lass and ask her to relay the message. !!
  2. Must say - (I do love them) but im a bit "Harvarded Out" - Was at Oshkosh last year and there were no less than 4 different shows displaying Harvard's every day - That said, they are very special so I'm sure I will be over it soon.
  3. Swiss Van - were the Harvard pics taken at the Botswana airshow?? The light looks about 100 % the same as the year we flew in and they did a sort of impromptu evening show. With the sunset, the dust and the lights it looked phenomenal.
  4. About time this site added an aviation fan thread. Well done. Im the kinda guy who even if sitting at home (fourways) will walk outside to see what / who is flying over. I have a mild obsession with airplanes and am fortunate to be able to fly one or two. Mach loop (top video) is a bucket list item for me. They train the RAF and a few others low flying skills. Must be MIND BLOWING to sit and watch the variety of metal both heavy and light that comes blasting through there. I do think I would need a few extra trousers and not because I pooped myself.. :) Thanks for sharing.

    Who remembers?

Jet jungle, men from the ministry, the chappie chipmunk show and of course the all time favorite Squad Cars. Before we got a TV which we eventually did, the family used to crowd around the HI-Fi on a Friday night and listen to all the shows. When TV was launched in SA There were no adverts and the first program ever aired.... Shane (western). good memories.
  6. watching Norsemen on Netflix at the moment. Hysterical satire of the program Vikings. Entertaining. I echo your sentiments on the New York thing. Spent time there and in Chicago and now every time I watch some thing on TV I irritate the lass by saying - I was there... I was there... makes her grumpy...

I still shave with a straight razor on a Monday morning - have the brush, some good lather stuff and a great razor (with Strop) - every Monday start the week with a good ole shave. remember my old man had those safety razors... also remember him with bits of bog roll on his face to stop the bleeding... same thing happened to me when I started with the straight razor... took weeks to get it right... slowbee - three months ago isn't waaaayyy back..
  9. I also have a citizen aqualand. Easily 20 years old and still going strong. Has had the battery and strap changed several times but the watch itself just keeps on going.
  10. I also have a luminox 3050 colormark (green) - great watch, rugged but nice enough to wear in a formal environment. Also had a strap fail but bought a new one and got on with life. One of the things I do like is that there glow in the dark works !! its one of the better systems. All in all great watch and I think very good value.
  11. 17 months later ?? BUT since im also a KTM rider, both on Mountain bike and adventure bike I thought we may as well give this old thread a bit a bump.. bumpity bump
  12. I bought an original 1 design windsurfer a month ago for 400 ZAR + 2 Bottles of captain. Immaculate. Mint Condition for its age. 2 sails both in top condition. Boom, Mast 100% complete. Took it for a sail, brought out the kid in me... was such a jol. will be doing a lot more of that in the future. In Europe they are making a big comeback. I agree not worth 3k but they are rising in price.

where were you in high school ?? good old memories of early / mid eighties pretoria. have read the whole thread but cant remember if anyones mentioned Jacquelines?? Limelight?? we went to the opening of limelight (on our 50cc's, as one did in the day) and they had Lazers !!!! My oath... lazers… Jacquelines had a light that they shot onto a mirrorball, Limelight had lazers that made a pattern on the wall.. the danding started at nine thirty but before the dancing there was a 5 minute "build Up lazer show" classic !!!

    Who remembers?

On the subject of durbs, there was a reasonably upper market club called Ruby Tuesdays. Only went there once or twice but I remember it being a "dinner" club so what stood out was that all the tables had a number and each table had a phone.. one could call the potential love interest before you walked across and embarrassed yourself LOL.. Anyone remember Sterland in Pretoria. Two / 3 blocks down from the Sunnypark Shopping Centre. That was a hive of activity and many Saturday nights were spent going between the two. Just up from Sterland was a place called Sizzles. My oath. Best Burger I have ever had and 25 years later I remember them clearly. They were the size of sideplates and had an unreal tangy cheese sauce... Good times..

  16. Alrighty the GA 800 is sold. Congrats to Franna on his new acquisition. Come someone …. give the Riseman a good home for a great price.
  17. its is a great watch indeed. love the look and feel of it... just when the sun goes down its crap squinting to see how much drinking time one has left but that's an age issue LOL.. it is a good buy. not going crazy, just want them to be enjoyed.
  18. Photos - Hi gents - for those interested in the photos here they are. The one on the left (looking at the picture) is the casio riseman. In the same league as the rangeman, mudman etc. Excellent watch with great ABC features. Great backlight for viewing in dim light conditions. 2 reasons for selling. 1. Underutilized. Just don't have enough arms to wear all the watches I want to and 2. Truth be known the old eyes battle to read without reading glasses. R 3000,00 not neg. excellent condition with boxes etc The one on the right is a GA 800 - Great watch with time, date, alarms, countdown, stopwatch etc. A more simpler featured watch but great nevertheless, In the typical g shock style, tough yet elegant. Also has a great backlight for viewing in dim conditions. R 1500.00 Not neg. Reason for selling is I bought it on impulse before buying my protrek. Its wasting away in a watch box. No GShock deserves to waste away in a box. They deserve to be free in rivers and mountains and fields on MX bikes and MTB bikes, in paragliders and microlights. Exploring the very planet we live on and love.. LOL And NO, I haven't taken advantage of the newly legalized cannabis laws.. just want these watches to go to a good home.
  19. @thenerd.... thanks chap will post a few pitchas (LOL) tomorrow -
  20. HMM rather you be their hero and purchase the two that I have for sale.. 1. Casio G shock riseman… altimeter, barometer compass.. want 3k for that 2. casio G shock very similar to the one pictured above. Analogue and digital, a lot more simple but a nice watch. Bought it on an impulse before I bought the pro trek... paid 2500, will take 1500 (been worn ten times at most) Come dad, be a hero

    Who remembers?

they were both magnificent. we had a "road" within our school called jacaranda drive. When I was in form 2 we had a matric guy called Shaun Honey who wheelied it non stop. Every day the form ones would line Jacaranda drive just after school and most days Shaun would wheelie out of the school. If he was in a cuc mood he wouldn't. Was super impressive as a lightie to watch. remember those days well. just out of the army I bought a 500R - almost wrote myself off in the first 5 kms. Took it back to the oke I bought it from and got my cash back. was a beast indeed. Trying to kick start it was indeed an art. if you did it wrong it would break your ankle.
