    Who remembers?

they were both magnificent. we had a "road" within our school called jacaranda drive. When I was in form 2 we had a matric guy called Shaun Honey who wheelied it non stop. Every day the form ones would line Jacaranda drive just after school and most days Shaun would wheelie out of the school. If he was in a cuc mood he wouldn't. Was super impressive as a lightie to watch. remember those days well. just out of the army I bought a 500R - almost wrote myself off in the first 5 kms. Took it back to the oke I bought it from and got my cash back. was a beast indeed. Trying to kick start it was indeed an art. if you did it wrong it would break your ankle.

Gents and ladies. 76 pages spread over four years. We've had clubs and tapes and bmx's and bands but we haven't had one mention of the most iconic thing to come out of the 80's - something that we all drooled over. Only the privileged had one, schoolboys had posters on their walls and longed for one It is........ the HONDA XR 200R.

  9. I cant believe there is a 7 page thread on the acceptability of the thing.. WGAF (who gives a F***) - if it works for you wear it, if it stores your spares or sustenance and you feel it necessary then wear the thing. if not, don't. I use a camelback on longer rides, works for me, keeps enough water on hand and quite comfy. On shorter rides I have a bottle of water and an "under the seat" spares keeper. works for me. When I rode Enduro / mx I had a fantastic thor waist pack which had all the required peripherals that I needed to get home. Just wear whatever you want, no one gives a ****.. or do they?? I have to chuckle when I see okes kitted out in full mx clothing to ride the blue route at Northern Farms. Not a criticism, if it works for you then go right ahead. Who gives a toss what other people think.
  10. no problem..

  13. Rosemary hill is your answer... very pleasant, not hectic climbing, there are one or two little areas but mostly flowing, good fun. we ride NF a lot and as previous have said, its a great training place, you can mix and match routes as you wish, do half the blue and the red section down near the river gives you about 25 kms lots of fun.. As for security NF have a few posted guards on bikes scattered around. Our group to date hasn't had an issue (touch wood).. go ride it.. take pics, enjoy.
  14. Echo Bonus's Comments. I didn't see the accident but the jetta was facing uphill with the windscreen cracked as if the body had hit the bonnet and slid into the windscreen. Bike was a commuter mountain bike. politically correctly I don't think that accident involved a "sport" cyclist. From the few folk that I could see sitting around the car they looked to be residents of the local suburb. Could have been that the jetta was for some reason in the yellow line (maybe forced left by a taxi) and collected the commuter either on his way down or up the hill. However, if I may speculate, its my feeling the bike was coming down the hill as the windscreen was so badly damaged that the cyclist must have been carrying some speed. ?? Speculation only..
  15. Yip, seems that's the case, and in essence I couldn't give a continental the problem though is he will cost lives other than his own,,,,, and that's sad, because its so easily prevented.
  16. I think that's what P*&%$& me off. 1. The oke in my case didn't care. Unless you are utterly brain-dead and literally your corpse is still on autopilot from the KFC you ate earlier you will KNOW that you don't have the ability to overtake and hence you would wait it out like the rest of us. (5 mins maybe) 2. Its Sunday morning. Where in the universe could you be going in such a hurry that is so important that you knowingly and without caution pull out into on coming traffic to attempt to overtake when it is so clearly a mistake. 3. Is it feasible that a human being can be that unbelievably stupid, so morosely devoid of intelligence not to know that their actions are likely to have devastating consequence? Even the most basic of life forms have a 'self protection" strategy which would include having a clue that driving head on into another object is likely to not end well?? or am I wrong? Does the perpetrator just have so little grey matter or just so much of a screw everyone else attitude that it doesn't matter, because someone else will (at their own peril) take evasive action to accommodate the actions of the other idiot. I sat back and wondered, when, not if, that driver was going to cause multiple deaths, because make no mistake, when he did it on my occasion, it was not the first time and will certainly not be the last so, I guess his death is inevitable, its just when and how many other deaths he causes. The mind boggles.
  17. It was on the new section. Looked like an old Jetta, windscreen was broken from (I would imagine) the rider hitting it. Bike mangled completely - didn't look good. Two weeks ago, coming from northern farms I passed heron bridge, going up the hill towards cedar rode, shortly after Passing HB I'm sitting 4 or 5 cars behind a dilapidated bakkie doing about 60 up the hill. No problem, here comes an even more dilapidated taxi trying to overtake the entire row of cars, clearly not enough power.... sits in the right hand (oncoming traffic) lane... solid white line... up a hill, wrong side of the road, oncoming traffic and not a care in the world... basically to get onto the correct side of the road he cuts in front of me leaving mm between us and yes, I had actually slowed to allow him in to prevent a nasty head on. It didn't matter though because he was determined to pass everyone and half a second after almost wiping me out embarked on his quest to continue overtaking which came within about 40 metres of again almost causing the most massive head on collision as the oncoming car had the presence of mind to pull over and hit the dirt. Had he not... well.. wouldn't have been pretty. Something needs to be done. We say it daily but to no avail. It is disgusting how these okes are allowed to get away with murder, and I mean that in all senses. Monday morning rant off but keep it safe out there.
