  1. Finally someone is doing something about the highjackings
  2. Hi there. Thing can get pretty serious sometimes and there is a lot of things to complain about. So lets relax and enjoy the lighter side of cycling .
  3. If you want the lightest production bike, look further. If you want the absolute lightest bike ever, this is it. An exercise into what is possible, tips the scale, or rather blowing on the scale at 2,7kg. No there is not a 1 missing or some typo. 2,7 kg is correct. Most of the parts was either prototype or one-off custom pieces made specifically for this anorexic beast. Even some of the carbon comes from Formula 1 technology, not commercially available. And it's not just a show piece. This bike has clocked over 20 000 k's. Just to give an idea how insanely light this bike is, the wheels weigh 585 g - that's BOTH wheels. The cost? If these parts is available or you have all the connections, you better start saving and don't tell the wife why you need a half a million rand bike. Yes, it's estimated cost is a cool R500 000. That's excluding import duties. Enjoy these pics and the spec list. Some of the weights are included. Frame: Custom SPIN Carbon - 643g Fork: One-off custom THM Scapula SP tuned - 185.9g Handlebar: Schmolke custom TLO - 111g Stem: NoRa CfK - 54g Shifters: Carbon downtube by BTP - 9.2g Rear mech: Heavily modified SRAM Red 102g Front mech: Modified Campagnolo Record - 49.9g Crankset/BB: Myth prototype with ceramic bearings 281.4g Chainrings: Fibre-Lite prototype 39T - 29g, 53T - 43g Brake levers: Modified Campy Ergo with shifter parts removed Brakes: AX Lightness Prion Premium with BTP race pads - 103.5g Seatpost collar: BTP - 2.9G Seatpost/saddle: Custom one piece SchmolkeTLO/Tune Speedneedle combo - 75g Hubs: Dash Cycles Monique (F), Rachelle ® - 129 Rims: Custom AX Lightness Spokes: Pillar Titanium Pedals: Custom Aerolite, then drilled out - 76g Headset: Custom Skewers: Tune Chain: KMC X10SL Cassette: Recon Alloy Cables: Power Cordz Tires: Tufo Custom Foam grip tape

When locking our bikes, we tend to take our front wheel off and lock it with the rear wheel. But sometimes we don't want to for various reasons. A British engineer might have a solution with Quick Caps. Basically it locks your quick release skewers as one can see in the pics. Around R350 will get you a pair of these through Kickstarter.
  5. Search for Sam Hill's Iron Horse downhill bike from a few years back . You could get some ideas. It was famous for being a very quiet bike - how he wanted it

Is this the world's first unstealable bike? And if you want to really test it, bring it to South Africa. This is the product and still prototype of engineering students in Chile. The frame is essentially the lock - the down tube split and its connected with the seat tube. The whole process takes about 20 seconds Nice idea, but will it work? Even if this does not hit your local bike shop, its quite a nice looking bike .

And again - "Why didnt I thought of this". How many times have we all struggled to remove the rear wheel and end up with black and dirty fingers or gloves. Here is our answer to everybody's swearing and "there must be a better way:. The HubDock let you remove your rear wheel without even touching you drivetrain. I am very sad for 2 reasons: Its a bit on the expensive side - roughly R6000. And the Hubdock is more than a year old allready - why haven't I seen one here? I can think of a few reasons why this will be great.
  8. C'mon guys. Blaming everybody and the cyclists and the bikeshop and the motorists and and and . . . Yes I think they broke the, because as far as my knowledge goes, cyclist is not alowed to have a safety vehicle or following vehicle on a public road. (My farther was in the Provincial Traffic force for 34 years). You need special permission and the vehicle needs to have signage that says "cyclists ahead" etc. But like we all know the roads are dangerous and getting more dangerous, so I think we all can understand why the following vehicle - I will feel better if I am cycling on the road and there is a safety vehicle behing me. But naming and blaming and throwing water bottles is not going to help. The best any of us can do is to ride our bikes and do it within the law.

How about a bike with no problems of dirty drivetrain. The Nusetti inner drive bike. Yes there have been bikes with gear boxes or inner drive systems, but this bike have the chain also inside the frame. A little bit more difficult to achieve than just a gearbox or hub-drive bike . At the moment the Nusetti with 16 speed planetery gearbox is only a prototype for now - damn.

Your new tire inflation system can now hide in your Hollow crank. For around R300 you can get this Crank Pump that will fit inside your higher end Shimano Hollow crank. At the moment its still only available through Kickstarter funding. I think its great and another one of those "Why didn't I think of it".

I hope his medical aid will pay for the brake lever too.
