  1. See you there. We'll have an ugly duckling bargain bin with some cosmetic reject 1x bits and pieces as well as all our other kit. Maybe a special or two ??
  2. What about black and gold? This wasn't from aliexpress I promise..
  3. Basotho herdsman on Sani pass ignoring his sheep to admire the 110's geometry this morning. Great bike for that ride climbed and descended amazingly.
  4. Hi all, sincere apologies to anyone who may have misunderstood this text. Our site has been updated as follows which should hopefully clarify the perceived benefits of elliptical chain rings: KALBO Elliptical Z-RINGS are specifically designed to even out the power transfer from the pedal cranks to the rear wheel by increasing the effective chainring radius through the power sector of the pedal stroke and reducing the effective chainring radius through the weak sector of the stroke. The end result is a more efficient movement that provides better traction especially for technical climbing. Although the total amount of energy to turn the crank through one revolution is the same for round and elliptical rings, the elliptical shape concentrates more of that work into the power stroke where your legs are stronger and more effective which can help reduce fatigue.
  5. We have a 34t elliptical demo ring doing the rounds in CT area so if anyone is keen to have a go and see first hand what the fuss is about oval please drop us a line...
  6. Have a look at our FB page for info on this... https://m.facebook.com/kalbodesigns/photos/a.372978046202097.1073741831.366362576863644/534660886700478/?type=3&source=48
  7. Lots of guys ordering in Cape Town and taking it to LBS for fitment - its kind of like getting a new cassette and taking it in to get fitted. You may get charged a "corkage" premium on labour. Maybe someone on this thread can help you out. Or buy the tools and DIY - its pretty simple and install guides are on our website for download or attached here. 8. Super keen for this event. Time flies only 2 months to go. If last year was anything to go by this year's route should be a goodie from what I hear. We'll be at Spoors again for the Friday braai night to fuel up for the "race" if anyone wants to come and have a beer/chat/ride around the kiddies pump track on a 1x10 demo bike.
  9. Bat1, only the gold colour - sorry for the cut and paste: We believe our wearing parts should last as long as the rest of your drivechain which is why KALBO HILL-KILL sprockets are Class III hard anodised using a specialist process that gives an incredibly hard wearing and dense surface layer as hard as tool steel, so dense in fact that it is nearly impossible to colour. The result is the natural distinctive true hard anodise bronze/gold colour that assures you our components have the hardest aluminium surface treatment possible.
  10. Howzit DoubleJ, sometimes a picture is easier than a bunch of numbers (for me anyway). This graph might help you. My preferred setup is a 32/42 to give biggest range of gears possible for KZN area plus Sani2C, Berg and Bush type stage races. Feel free to drop me a whatsapp or pm.
  11. Got a size L jacket to swap for a M. Any takers ?
  12. Here you go. Still get a bit of rub. Just need to check the cable every now and again to make sure it's tight and off the frame.
  13. Standard shimano shifter cable and brake hose. Cable clamps I think are off a BMC.
  14. A great day out on the reborn Gold Mamba. Awesome bike to ride Karkloof Supa20.
  15. This is how my Dad did it in the days before MTB... I sailed the sand yacht from the E side of Sua Pan to Kubu in July 1986. In spite of it being the "dry" season there was a large damp spot about halfway that caused some concern. I skirted it as far as I could but it was too big to avoid completely. I used a map and compass which will be superseded now by satnav and cellphones. It is a bit scary in the middle as you are completely out of sight of "land". I packed a couple of sandwiches and water, probably insufficient if anything had happened, but I had a back up crew who knew my route and when to expect me at Kubu. I think the crossing took 45m to 1h. and the wind was in my favour. One of my most exhilarating memories
  16. Will do once a few more finishing touches done and it's looking the way it should ....
  17. Hitting the Hilton trails with a OneTen29 by PYGA PMB, 1x10 Conversion by KALBO, PMB and Custom-bred trail dog by SPCA Pietermaritzburg. Local is definitely lekker
  18. Hi Timlee, gotta say that's a good looking extender sprocket . If you don't come right please whatsapp us 0799880185. Couple of suggestions for you. It's not btension.
  19. Had a quick ride through the new cleared section yesterday. going to be awesome when it packs down !
  20. Great stuff Luke ! Hopefully some more amazing single track to add to the awesome trails we're lucky enough to have here already. Can't make this one but let us know when the next one is.
  21. Just take a look at all the timeshare resorts..a golf course isn't enough anymore, they need decent ST to pull in the holiday makers
  22. Nice ! Glad it's working out for you. Let me know next time you're up this way for a ride. FYI just got 2.5mm chainring spacers in on Friday if you need.
  23. 16t is Def worth it if your running shimano cassette. Taking 15 or 17 out disrupts the angles of the pickup teeth so you won't get crisp shifting thru 13-15-19 or 13-17-19. Putting the right 16t will get the pickup tooth angles right and make shifting thru this range nice and sharp again. Also shifting progression is more even with 16t. Try it without first.if you don't get sharp shifting or you find the gap too big then go for it.
