  1. in the "ou dae" the City CC riders that rode rapport tour used molteno road as their hill training.
  2. thanks for the info - will recon over the weekend.
  3. a while ago there was a thread on hill training & a hubber described a route that started at the cape technicon CTown and crossed over Roeland street and de Waals Drive into Vredehoek. the route sort of threaded its way thru the left side of Vredehoek and eventually joined up with the top of Kloof Nek. i would recon the area myself i don't think i would be able to see past the red mist that i anticipate would cover my eyes. any hubbers out there that are familiar with this route?
  4. we asked for drug testing at the PPA Summer & WPCA winter league but the costs is too exhorbitant. we were advised to work thru provincial / national body who would then request on our behalf. CSA were very helpful but i can't remember if we had to then apply for funding thru a gov dept to pay for testing. in the end we coxed it the reason being workload. there is just too much to worry about on the day of an event without having the bloodsuckers requesting you to inform race number ## that he / she is "wanted" in the toilets. SAIDS are at all nationals - who pays - i don't know. they normally test the podium winners and random riders. i would love for them to be at our events not becos i am intrigued as to who would put in a "DNS" but for the education of the young riders who are starting out to race. out of sight out of mind.
  5. 1.David Garrett - Giant 2.James Tennant - Giant 3.Pete Nelson 4.Rassie Smit 5.Jaco Davel 6.Chris Cronje this is from memory. The scratch +1 (sub vet, vets , masters) had a 10 minute start on Scratch but we weakend the scratch +1 by taking out the strong subvets and adding them to scratch which evened up the numbers. in hindsight we should of then given scratch + 1 a larger time gap. scratch +1 got thru Malmsbury and over the 1st big climb out of the town with their lead intact over scratch albeit down to about 5 minutes. Team Giant used the climb to dislodge some of their group and made contact with scratch + 1 on the Hopefield Rd. on the way to Hopefield Giant attacked and only Pete Nelson was able to stay with the 2 Team Giants riders. there were not enough strong riders in the chasing group to close the gap on the 3 breakaway riders. once over the next big climb past Hopefield the road tilted downwards and the gap remained constant. once on the R27 ,with 19 k's to the finish and a slight headwind - the gap started closing. David attacked in the last k and James looked at Pete. no words were necessary. Rassie led the charge to the line and won the bunch sprint for fourth. the winning time was 4hrs1min at an average of 37 something. the distance 149,6 kms (now we know for sure). well done to the 3 cat 3 riders who worked their butts off to stay ahead of the race. they had a 45 minute gap on Scratch - maybe next year we include cat 3 in the handicap race as scratch + 2.
  6. i haven't read all the posts - but for the ill informed - csa don't test the riders, saids do and they are asked and paid by the organisers of the event to test. they normally just test the podium winners and mr anderson will be able to ride his argus next year because it is not sanctioned and you don't need a csa license.
  7. if you are racing - yes , if you are riding the funride - no
  8. long range weather forecast (yr.no and windguru) says no rain, light wind, cloud cover for Saturday.
  9. i was the race ref for the cat 3 race today. Greg de Vink (u16) and Joshua Francis (u18) broke away within the 1st 10 kilometres and over the next 80 k's built up a lead of 2min 30 over the chasing bunch of about 40 riders. every lap past the Fesantekraal Airfield saw riders being shelled off the back of the bunch until there were about 20 chasers left. on the last lap a Pure Savage rider tried to bridge the gap and was followed by 60 year old Gerard Genis and and a younger Kent Wrankmore. they managed to team up and made contact with the two breakaway riders with about 15 k's to the finish. the two youngsters tried a few attacks up the last 2 climbs which saw Gerard and the Pure Savage rider off the back. it all came down to a sprint which was won by Josh with Kent in 2nd and young Greg de Vink in 3rd. apart from the light drizzle there were no issues, the riders behaved, racing was hard and tactical and from my perspective interesting. if the clubs and teams had more representation the break might have been brought back earlier.
  10. Profile http://www.wpcycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Veldrif-Elvation-300x58.jpg we drove the route to Velddrif, the road from the start is pretty flat to Malmsbury. there is a long steep drag out of Malmsbury to the Hopefield road and then there are lots of rolling hills. once past Hopefield the road flattens out once again and i got the impression of a slight downhill tilt to the road for long stretches. if there is no wind these sections are going to be pretty fast. after the right turn onto the R27 to Velddrif its going to a fast dash to the finish.

  14. we need to consult with you guys - i believe the wp road director is working with the loc - i personally think the bridge over the river is too dangerous and too close to the t junction. what would you suggest?
  15. we are going to drive (would have liked to ride) the full route today just to make sure the roads haven't been washed away in the past few weeks.
  16. impey wasn't a overnight yellow jersey success in TdF, he was riding very well in 2009 when he was taken out in the last stage of the tour of Turkey while in yellow. i think he suffered one or two broken bones and was out of cycling for a long period. what is strange is that he tested negative at SA's a few days after the TT positive test. he still has his back to the wall though.
  17. if a lot of riders stay over them we might arrange a ride back via Darling to CTown.
  18. although rain is setting in for the weekend there will be patches of sunshine over the next few days including Sunday morning. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that the yr.no weather keeps to its very accurate forecast.
