  3. Were you the 3gents we ( 4 of us from 80km A bunch) caught on Adderley ? You riding the black Spez ?
  4. I see the site says from 6am - I am in BL and start at 6:12am if that is of any help
  5. I have found myself in the same scenario BUT did own a gravelbike( Trek Checkpoint which i really enjoyed) that i sold thinking i would 'experiment" with a different option. So i bought a carbon hardtail that came with a rigid fork and build it up with all the carbon bits from my Topfuel and added a 38T to the mix . So far this bike is my do-it-all piece of equipment and found that the more time a spent riding it on various surfaces , i have more confidence to enter any race . I have done a few gravel races and can honestly say i have found the right bike for me even hanging on at the back of some serious local gravel racing talent . If you can , approach your lbs and ask them if they have a demo gravelbike in your size then put it to task. If not convinved , do some clever upgrades on your hardtail and then ride it until you see the need/benefit to transition to a gravelbike ....my 2c
  6. What combo’s are you guys running for gravel specific rides on MTB ? I do most of my riding on my hardtail( gravel & tar)and currently running Bontrager XR3 front and XR2 rear . Found the combo to work well but looking to replace soon and would be interesting to see what options have given good mileage and obviously lowest rolling resistance? Thanks
  7. As a "Looseforward" category rider i also started cycling on a alu hardtail that served me well , as most of my initial riding was done on gravel roads and the easier sections of most trails . 9 years later i am still riding at between 105 -110 kgs( depending on my dedication towards spesific events) but have upgraded to a duel suspension bikes and definately enjoy the additional travel that comes with it . At 1.89m i also found that the XL bike ( in Trek brand) was a good fit after making some errors of thinking i should be on a different size bike . Bike fitment is a must in my opinion and makes for a more enjoyable experience from the get-go . Goodluck in finding the right machine , and ENJOY it !
  8. I have a few items if anyone can use them - otherwise they are going to the bin : SRAM 11 speed cassette MTB tube - never used Shimano road shoe cleats Collect in CT northern suburbs
  9. My first 36One and looking forward to it ! The longest MTB race i've done before is 200km but this is just on another level , so bietjie nervous ! Would like to hear from those who have completed the race before as to how one should approach this monster ?
  10. So after W2W i discovered a crack in the BB of my Topfuel 9.8 and to my surprise i was treated with this beauty from Trek as a warranty replacement… my new 9.9 - cannot stop looking at it
  11. I tested positive on 13 Dec'21 and suffered with bad fever for 3-4 days but luckily recovered well . The best advise i received was to start training atleast 2 weeks after my last symptom-free day (if you feel good and receive the thumbs-up from dr) and even then do 3/4weeks in Z1/2 . I am only considering starting next week as i do not do this for money/living and after the age of 40 i would like to see my kids grow old . Attakwas and a few races down the drain for now but gives me the time to have a few more beers/wiskeys and just enjoy my holiday ....my2c
  12. Goal 1 - Try to enjoy every ride in 2022 ( well most of them) again and do more free rides meaning NO strava/garmin/computer/stuff Goal 2 - Complete my first 361 Challenge Goal 3 - Use post covid-comeback to reset and build a proper base along with losing some additional kg’s of bodyweight Bonus Goal - Get close to the 3hour’ish CTCC on the MTB( knobs and all 🤙🏼)
