  1. Think it is Alex -who will also be racing on Friday night - his email alexheward@gmail.com
  2. Yup you right on that 1 - hahaha
  3. The distance to Worcester from Cape Town I believe has remained constant over the years - yup the starting point has moved a little over the year but not that much!
  4. I remember about 3 or 4 years back starting this race and my car said it was only 4 degrees! Also remember driving all the way to Bonnievale when it was pouring with rain - but then it was a league event - would not have done it if it was just a normal fun ride! But time will tell!
  5. Orbit Tour de Worcester 98km event - I cannot comment on numbers in the shorter event or number of starters - but maybe the lack of league is one of the main reasons to why the finishing numbers are down. Finishing numbers are normally a good indication of starter: Number of finishers 98km event from PPA results: 2013 - 303 riders 2012 - no event or I did not ride 2011 - 390 2010 - 487 2009 - 425 From the above it look like the numbers are about 25% or more down on previous years. This is the 1st example of a road race now that their are no league - time will tell what the remaining season holds for PPA road events.

    KILLARNEY

This great news - I was hoping it would start already next week wed but waiting till the 18th just make me a little hungrier!
  9. It has been - but as I posted in this tread that the race was to be this weekend I figured it was best to post the up date here too!

  12. Rob was voted on cannot recall if their was other new blood - otherwise the same old!
  13. Yup thats the man as in Booth bike - he will be 1 of the guys getting my vote - PPA need new blood on the committee and as a CA who is passionate about cycling he should be able to do some good work! I also noticed he has been nominated by somebody who is not on the committee but did serve on the committee about 15 years back. I always find it more credible when non committee members nominate people for the committee be it them re-standing or new nominations.
  14. PPA has a development budget (quite a large one) from which this entry should then have come. At no point has it been disclosed that development will be subsided by the teams entering - so if a development team won the competition would they have got zero prize money? And prize money then paid out to the 1st paying team - to hide behind "development' here is possibly not the right thing to do! Considering the league according to the budget current stand at R25 033 profit not to mention the money PPA has as an association - if not fraudulent - then certainly not wise to deny your more active members who enter all the event in advance (so not that fortunate if it rain just stay in bed) of a few thousand rand?
  15. Something I wrote to "PPA" some on 02 June 2013 - this team has not got anymore prize money (their entry for the team compertition was R1200 and finishing 2nd to date they have received R1000 - certainly not how the prize money was been advertized) - would this be called fraud? "The 2nd place team has asked me to investigate as they only received R1000 for the team prize in the Elite Cat. Here is the link to al the info quoted: http://www.pedalpower.org.za/road/road7/licensing/ Number of teams entered according to team result 10 at R1200 per team Thus R12 000. Rule 16.5 - 80% of this is meant to go back to prize money in the team compertion i.e. R9600 prize money for the elite team competition! Only 3 prizes - how can the 2nd team only get R1000? Here is the ref - if you don't have time to go to the link: The results showing 10 teams! Teamname Points 1. Focus 238 2. Smith & Assosiate 233 3. Orbea SA 222 4. Intellibus 221 5. CWC 193 6. Complete Cyclist 185 7. Spartans 129 8. Kinetic 111 9. MC2 Alfa Body Works 105 10. Velokhaya 23 The entry fee! 16. Team competition 16.1 Team entries and entry fees A minimum of three (3) teams, consisting of between three and five riders per team, is required per age category for the team competition to take place in that age category. Entry forms for the team competition are available on request from leagues@pedalpower.org.za All team members must first enter the league individually, and then complete one team entry form per team. All riders must be riding in the same kit for identification purposes, unless the team boasts the current leader on points, in which case the leader will be wearing the PPA safe cycling jersey. Once the entry form has been completed, please email it to leagues@pedalpower.org.za or fax it to (021) 689-8490 together with the team’s proof of payment. Elite, Junior Men R1 200 per team Sub-Veterans (30 – 39 Men) R800 per team Veterans (40 – 49 Men) R800 per team Racing Women R500 per team Masters (50+ Men) R500 per team The statement that 80% Eight percent per cat! 16.5 Team prize money Eighty percent of the team registration fees per category will be used for that age category’s team GC prize money at the end of the season, (see 16.1). Team prize money will be paid via EFT to the team manager following the conclusion of the league. Teams will not be recognised at individual events. Regards"
  16. I am trying to keep PPA comment to PPA tread - but a big part of PPA road success has been looking after the more serious "fun riders." The 2013 Spring league they have decided to cancel even after making just over R25 033 off the leagues in 2013 (page 9 http://www.pedalpower.org.za/wp-content/plugins/downloads-manager/upload/2013%20AGM%20book%20Final.pdf ) I don't want to start a PPA debate under this thread! Go to the PPA Annual General Meeting 2013 thread and I am more than happy to debate this their!
  17. Wayne Roberts in association with Alex Heward and Carinus Lemmer announced last SAT night that they will be hosting a Spring League this year, which will consist of circuit races of 120km+ with the longest one being 160km. The races will take place over 30-40km circuits. This is a huge step for cycling in CPT and right now is the perfect time for one system to take over another! Old Hellshoogte is where the race goes up next weekend get your climbing legs ready! SHARE this post and support this series
